:

Homework is designed to spiral review topics to maximize student learning. (183 research studies done in the last 6 years have said this is critical)

Unannounced quizzes on homeworkBenchmark testing STAAR exams, End of Course exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT – all

test mathematics through word problems. Textbook is a resource Tests may be corrected for a max grade of 70.Algebra 1 is a high school course. Credit for Algebra 1 is

dependent on your grades.

1. Make school work a priority2. Be attentive in class.3. Start homework at a reasonable time so you

can get plenty of sleep.4. Focus on homework rather than “multi-

tasking” with TV, internet, social media, etc.5. Have a designated time and place to do

your homework.6. Read independently for 30 minutes a day.

Same Day Late (SDL): Must be handed to the appropriate teacher before 3:30 on the day the assignment was due. Maximum SDL grade of 90.

Next Day Late (NDL): Must be handed to the appropriate teacher before 3:30 on the day following the due date. Maximum NDL grade of 80.

Late Work:

Any Assignment Past NDL: Maximum grade of 70

If a student has not turned

in an assignment, they

will be assigned to ZAP

the following week.

We know absences cannot be avoided.

If possible, try to make appointments (orthodontist, dentist) in the afternoon after 2pm so you miss fewer “core” classes. (We know not all doctors have afternoon appointments.)

If your student is absent, we have procedures for two types: illness related and non-illness related (i.e. family trips). They are not treated the same.

In either case, it is the student’s responsibility to get missed assignments and to turn in their completed work. They will not be reminded by the teachers.

Illness Related –

2 days to make up work for each day missedNotify front office by 10 am of absence to have makeup work at dismissal timeStudent can also get make up work upon their return.Turn in work as it is completed in the order it is assigned.Student still responsible for current work being assigned upon their return with no extension to those due dates. If your child misses a class, it is their responsibility to get the work from the teacher that day. It will be due the next day with everyone else.

Non- Illness Related –

Pick up form from front office to notify principal in writing at least two weeks priorYou may request make up work prior to your departure but it is at each teacher’s discretion whether they can get it to you prior to your departure.

• if your student does receive work prior to your departure, it is due upon return to school.

• work not given prior to absence will be in the same “make up work folder” that is used for illnesses.

Your student DOES NOT have two days to make up work for each day missed. It is up to each teacher when your work is due; usually within the first week back.

Non- Illness Related (continued)–

Have your student turn in work as it is completed; in the order it is assigned. Your student is still responsible for the current work being assigned upon their return with no extension to those due dates.

When you are in your vehicle and not parked in a parking space, your mobile phone should not be in use for any reason.

No talking, texting, Facebooking, Twittering. Your attention needs to be on your surroundings and protecting our students.

Also, please do not cut through the parking lot or pass other vehicles unless specifically motioned to do so.

SIGNS are posted, please OBSERVE them.
