Homework is designed to spiral review topics to maximize student learning. (183 research studies done in the last 6 years have said this is critical)

Unannounced quizzes on homeworkBenchmark testing STAAR exams, End of Course exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT – all

test mathematics through word problems. Textbook is a resource Tests may be corrected for a max grade of 70.Algebra 1 is a high school course. Credit for Algebra 1 is

dependent on your grades.

We know absences cannot be avoided.

If possible, try to make appointments (orthodontist, dentist) in the afternoon after 2pm so you miss fewer “core” classes. (We know not all doctors have afternoon appointments.)

If your student is absent, we have procedures for two types: illness related and non-illness related (i.e. family trips). They are not treated the same.

In either case, it is the student’s responsibility to get missed assignments and to turn in their completed work. They will not be reminded by the teachers.

Page 23: Classroom Management and Policies. Mrs. Sanchez 14 th year at OLQP 6 th grade Homeroom 6 th – 8 th Social Studies 7 th Grade Speech Communications.

Illness Related –

2 days to make up work for each day missedNotify front office by 10 am of absence to have makeup work at dismissal timeStudent can also get make up work upon their return.Turn in work as it is completed in the order it is assigned.Student still responsible for current work being assigned upon their return with no extension to those due dates. If your child misses a class, it is their responsibility to get the work from the teacher that day. It will be due the next day with everyone else.

Page 24: Classroom Management and Policies. Mrs. Sanchez 14 th year at OLQP 6 th grade Homeroom 6 th – 8 th Social Studies 7 th Grade Speech Communications.

Non- Illness Related –

Pick up form from front office to notify principal in writing at least two weeks priorYou may request make up work prior to your departure but it is at each teacher’s discretion whether they can get it to you prior to your departure.

• if your student does receive work prior to your departure, it is due upon return to school.

• work not given prior to absence will be in the same “make up work folder” that is used for illnesses.

Your student DOES NOT have two days to make up work for each day missed. It is up to each teacher when your work is due; usually within the first week back.

Page 25: Classroom Management and Policies. Mrs. Sanchez 14 th year at OLQP 6 th grade Homeroom 6 th – 8 th Social Studies 7 th Grade Speech Communications.

Non- Illness Related (continued)–

Have your student turn in work as it is completed; in the order it is assigned. Your student is still responsible for the current work being assigned upon their return with no extension to those due dates.
