CHINO HILLS HIGH SCHOOL
KEY CLUB NEWLETTER
Winters Edition 2013 | Volume II | Issue 5
Opening Chino Hills High
President’s Note
Hello Chino Hills High School Key Clubbers!
I cannot explain enough to describe my excitement for this new year! CHHS Key Club of-
ficers are more enthusiastic than ever to provide you with memorable experiences still to
come-new service events, District Convention, elections, and the banquet at the end of
the year!
In this new year, I hope that you all will take service to new heights and leadership to a
whole different level..and apply for officer for the term 2013-2014! The leadership experi-
ence for me in the Key Club Board truly built my character and gave me the most “warm
-fuzzys” throughout these years. So, if you did not apply this year, I hope that next year,
you will work towards that goal.
Though it is almost the end of the 2012-2013 term (and there is probably only one more
newsletter coming out), it is not just the time to celebrate our new achievements but it is
also the time to meet our new officers and
members! I am positive the next board is
well-trained and qualified to be the next
leaders of CHHS Key Club. I also hope that
as most of you become upperclassmen,
you will greet the incoming freshmen and
new members with the same spirit you
might have seen at Club Rush.
I also would like to give a huge thanks to
you all CHHS Key Clubbers! Without such a
strong club and so many dedicated mem-
bers, I do not think I would have gotten
where I am right now-as Division 15 Lieu-
tenant Governor Elect. I am honored to still
lead an amazing organization again.
Yours in Service,
Amy He

How's it going Key Clubbers?
They say that the new year brings oppor-
tunity. With elections for next year's officer
board, opportunity is hardly scarce. The
club has so much potential; it is actually re-
freshing to hear about someone's practi-
cally kept-secret talent or unexpected in-
terests. From the Region 13 Winter Formal to
preparations made for District Convention,
I can see that the club is, as Bohemian-
Austrian poet Rainer Rilke said,
"...welcoming the new year, full of things
that have never been". This is a new year
for Key Club; this is a fresh start. This is an
opportunity to try new things, perhaps that
one event that you have thought about
going to but have had second thoughts
about because your friends weren't going.
You don't always have to follow others.
Key Club is here to help you develop lead-
ership skills, even if you don't see yourself to
be the boss of a corporation, or the man-
ager of a business, there's potential in eve-
ryone. Take the time and effort to branch
out.
Who knows? It could change everything.
Yours in Service,
Jonathon Woo

Up Coming Events

Isaiah’s Rock Distribution on
December 23 is, in my opinion, THE
BEST event of the year. There’s no
better way to spread the holiday
cheer than to serve! At this event,
hundreds of people show up bright
and early on Christmas Eve at the
Chino Civic Center to allow other
families to enjoy a holiday season.
At Isaiah’s Rock, volunteers either
pass out food to the less fortunate
or help carry bags of food each
peoples’ cars. There are lots of oth-
er duties, such as breaking down
boxes, last minute packaging, and
passing out water/ snacks to volun-
teers.
It’s a tiring event, with no sitting
down or little break, but utilizing this
time is just so worth it! It’s great to
see familiar faces from the Boy
Scouts, Police Department, and
church volunteers. You make
friends while over the sound of
Christmas music continuously
pounding on your heart. Every year
this event opens the eyes of Key
Clubbers and allows them to end
the year in the greatest way possi-
ble. I am truly thankful for the CHHS
Key Club being given the oppor-
tunity to witness and participate in
such a life-changing event.

DCON!
5 CHHS Key Club
Hey Key Clubbers! So as you may know, DISTRICT
CONVENTION IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! DCON
2013 is the opportunity of a lifetime to develop lead-
ership skills through extensive workshops, build
strong character, elect your 2013-2014 district
board, install new officers, and form lifelong friend-
ships. We are all so excited to be able to join our fel-
low Key Clubbers from California, Nevada, and Ha-
waii, for one amazing weekend of nonstop fun! As
preparations and planning continue to take place,
the anticipation of each attendee only grows and
grows! Although, not a far distance from home,
considering we will be staying in the Anaheim Mar-
riot, we truly believe that attending District Conven-
tion will be like entering a new world, and we hope
to leave with a new found understanding of Key
Club International, and an even greater love for ser-
vice.

Garage Sale!
7 CHHS Key Club
Our Key Club has just held its
second garage sale this Saturday
which was hosted by our very own
Jaihee Choi’s residence. Our mem-
bers got up early morning to set up
the venue for the early garage sale
rush. Right when we finished
setting up and posted up garage
sale signs, a plethora of customers
rampaged the area. We did not expect to make so much money initially
but our enthusiasm and optimism had truly shown to be more power-
ful. Although the whole experience
was hectic and surprising, we end-
ed up with a great profit towards
our DCON attendees of 235 dol-
lars. We hope that our future gar-
age sales are also as successful but
with more members to attend!

On December D15 held an Ice
Skating Fundraiser mixed with our an-
nual Division 15 Council Meeting. Our
Ice Skating Fundraiser was a great, as
we raised money for the Pediatric
Trauma Program, a program which
helps decrease the number of unin-
tentional child injuries. It was amazing
to see many of our fellow giraffes
from other clubs come together on
December 15th coming to our Divi-
sion Council Meeting to help raise
money for PTP while having fun and
socializing with other members. Be-
fore the Division Council Meeting the
Chino Hills Key Club sold boba to oth-
er members to help raise money for
PTP. Later all those funds were donat-
ed to the organization. This was a
very fun event for D15 and the fund-
raiser was very successful raising over
$450 for the Pediatric Trauma pro-
gram.

On December 21, The CHHS Key Club fundraising event for the Ki-
wanis Chino Hills Boat
Parade was
truly a memorable ex-
perience. At the Boat
Parade, Key Club sold
boba, hot tea, and
cup noodles. Key
Club’s participation in
the boat parade was
not only a successful
and profitable fund-
raising event, but
also a fascinating night for numerous Key Clubbers. Every Key Club-
ber’s teamwork and contribution made sure that everything would
work out. Numerous Key Clubbers worked alongside new friends and
these new relationships will help establish a stronger, unified
Key Club within our school. Even though many of us were exhausted
and freezing on that chilly Friday night, everyone proceeded uniformly
to the tasks and duties we
were required to complete.
All in all, it was a
great bonding experience,
beneficial fundraiser, and a
fascinating night out to see
all the beautifully decorated
boats in the Kiwanis Chino
Hills Boat Parade

Elections
Chino Hills High School Key Club has been go-
ing through a tough time of letting go the old of-
ficers and electing a new executive board for
2013-2014. Elections included an application,
speech to members, and an executive board in-
terview. Congratulations to all who applied to be-
come a bigger part of their key club as they all
were great candidates but it’s sad that we can-
not accept everyone to be
part of the board. We are
proud that over 20 mem-
bers have applied for exec-
utive positions, truly showing
our member dedication has
spread. Good luck to all
candidates!

Teens for Jeans
Teens for Jeans is an on-
going event that our Key
Clubbers has taken the initia-
tive to participate in. The
concept is very simple, do-
nate jeans, for Teens! This is a
newer event that our club
has taken on and it has be-
come a major emphasis
when it comes to our club
meetings. So far we have col-
lected numerous pairs of
jeans from our dedicated
members, hopefully we can
reach our goal of 200 pairs of
jeans by the end of this
event. Keep on donating Key
Clubbers!

Winter Formal
UPDATES Chino Hills High
Winter Formal was definitely something that
Region 13 was looking forward too as soon as the
new year kicked in. This dance carried on the fun
of a regular school dance along with raising
money just like how key clubbers roll. From adver-
tising boba to hitting the dance floor with your
best friends. This night of
wild fun has began 2013
with a blast. Meeting so
new many Key Clubbers
along the way along with
reuniting with familiar fac-
es from Fall Rally. The mu-
sic blasted the night away
as it didn't even seem as
long as it truly was! Many
Key Clubbers got to take
pictures with other Key Club mem-
bers and all come together in the
world or service along with fun. We
even had time to interact with our
fellow Kiwanians and had the oppor-
tunity to grow closer to them. The
many new friends and fun night will
be a night that no one will forget and
always remember how great Key
club truly can be.
