27 - 090Aromatic Aldehydes from Benzylbromides via Cobalt(I) MediatedBenzyl Radicals in the Presence of Aerial Oxygen: A Mild OxidationReaction in Neutral Condition. — CoCl(PPh3)3 proves to be a novelmediator for the conversion of benzylic bromides (I) to aromatic aldehydes(II) (6 examples) in the presence of aerial oxygen. In the absence of oxygen, the functionalized benzylic dimers (III) are produced. Both the oxidationand the C–C coupling reaction are compatible with several functional groups.Possible mechanisms are discussed. — (GOSWAMI, S.; MAHAPATRA, A.K.; Tetrahedron Lett. 39 (1998) 14, 1981-1984; Dep.
