Career Guidance:Planning for the Future

4 +2 or 4+2+2 or 4+4

Career Pathway One Definition

A coherent, articulated sequence of rigorous academic and career/technical courses commencing in the ninth grade and leading to an industry-recognized certification, license, associate and /or baccalaureate degree and beyond.

A Career Pathway Provides:• Students with an outline of career information

that may be used to assist in the development of a four-year plus education plan

• Education professionals with career information that can aid them as they assist students with educational and career planning

• Parents with career information that will aid them as they assist their student with career and educational planning

Many young people leave school without the knowledge or foundation

that is required to find and keep a job. In the workplace of today,

employers require that employees have advanced academic and

technical skills. These skills are required because of rapidly

changing and emerging technologies.

Students graduating from high school need highly

technical skills to be competitive in the job

market. Up to 85% of all jobs will require at least two years

of education beyond high school.

(7 to Block, Block to 7 or 6)• Statewide Articulation• Local Articulation • Pilot Programs• Inadequate Communication • “Next Best” Trends

Keys to Good Planning
