A. B. C By Jon Parkinson
Algebra
I learned how to use BEDMAS to solve algebra questions in order to get the correct answer.
Example:
5x + 3(3x + 2) – 45x + 9x + 6 – 4 Brackets14x + 6 – 4 Addition14x + 2 Subtraction
Brackets
I learned that two brackets together or having no sign between a number and a bracket means to multiply.
Example:
(23 + 4)(13 – 5)27 x 8
Or3(21 – 3)
63 – 9
Coefficient This year I learned that Coefficient is the
number in front of an variable Example:
3xVariable
Coefficient
Divide I learned this year that two negative
numbers with give you a positive number, because
- 3 -7 +21
Exponents
I learned that having two exponents, one in a bracket and one outside a bracket implies that you have to multiply them together, because there are however many copies of that bracket which includes coping the exponent in the bracket
(3 )
3 4 12
3
3 4
12
Fraction
I learned this year that fractions and ratios are the same thing just written in different way
1:4 = ¼
Graphs I learned this year that the number in a X and Y table can be put
into a graph
X Y
1 3
2 7
3 11
cHord I learned that a chord is a vital part in finding the
center of a triangle if it is not marked for you. A chord and a perpendicular bisector and another one of these in a different place will find the center of the triangle.
Integers
I learned this year that integers are are numbers that does not use decimals, fractions or other symbols with the number.
Example: 9.45 and ¼
Just do it
I learned that when you times fractions you don’t need to find a common denominator you just do it
½ x ¾ 1 x 32 x 43/8
Keep Change flip I learned this year that when dividing fractions you keep the first
fraction change the division symbol to a multiplication and flip the fraction so the numerator is now the denominator and the denominator is now the numerator.
¾ ½¾ 2/1
Linear relations
I learned this year that linear relation represents a pattern that can be found by using a formula.
Models I learned how to modeling can help
visualize an equation that is hard to picture in your head.
Numbers I learned this year that there are
negative numbers and not just positive numbers on a number line.
Order of operation
I learned that Order of operation (BEDMAS) is an easy way to solve question without lots of effort
5x + 4(3x + 2) – 45x + 12x + 8 – 4 Brackets17x + 8 – 4 Addition 17x + 4 Subtraction
Polynomials
I learned this year that polynomials are you just variables in an equation.
Quotient
I learned this year that Quotients can vary between many types of numbers including variables
Example:
AB/X = X/Bx X x XAB = BB = AB
Ratio I learned this that a ratio is a scale stating that if
the right is 1 and the left is 4 the object is getting 4 times smaller. But if it is 4:1 than it is getting larger.
Subtraction
I learned this year that subtracting a negative number will give you a positive because your taking away from a negative number.
Example:
Triangle I learned this year that all the angles in a
triangle will always equal 180 degrees for all the different types of triangles
Units
I learned this year that units are the measurements given to an object with no measurement.
Example:
5 x 6 = 30 units
Variables
I learned this year that Variables replace any unknown numbers that are in an equation.
Example:
? x 3 = 9 x ? + 4A x 3 = 9 x A + 4
Whole Numbers
I learned this year that whole numbers are exactly the same as integers in the fact the they both are numbers that don’t use decimals and fraction.
Example: 4.56 and ½
X axis
I learned this year that numbers on the x axis and y axis are patterns that are found by a formula in a table.
X Y1 32 63 9
Y axis
I learned this year that numbers on the x axis and y axis are patterns that are found by a formula in a table
Zero pairs I learned that during algebra zero pairs is a way of
getting rid of a number so we can isolate the variable.
