The

wizened

old man, Ole

Tangile,

shook his

head in

disbelief.  Are you sure? he

asked.  Are you sure it was

my

age-mate,

Ole KoikaiT

Of course Ken

He

had sat under this very

tree

and

shared

the Good News

of

Jesus

with Ole Koika i. I t was

under

this

very tree Ole

Koikai

prayed to

receive Jesus.  Why

is

it

so hard fo r you to

believe?

asked

Ken.

Ole

Tangile's

face took on a

r emin i scen t

look.

 Severa l

years ago, he

mused,

  three

men ofmy

age-set (60

to

75-year-olds) listened to the

news

of

Jesus We

believed

wha t we

heard

We were

baptized. Shortly af ter our

baptisms,

we

were

cursed

by

a

fellow age-mate. Two of us

are

still

s trong in the

Lord,

and

one

has fallen

away. The age-mate

who

cursed us

was

Ole

Koikai .

How cou ld he

now

beheve?

Come with m e to his

village tomorrow,

Ken

suggested,

  and see for

yourself.

A

group of

13

men

accompanied Ken and

Ole Tangile

the

following

day.

As

the

day's lesson

drew to a c lose, Ole

Koikai

was the

f irst

to

speak. He

looked

intently

at

the

group of

men and

asked,

 How long

have

you

al l

known this Good

News and,

yet, kept it to

yourselves? Some

of the

men

looked

nervous; others I

suggested that theyhad i

only recently

heardofJesus. I

The air was thick with |

tension. i

Only

Ole

Tangile countered

the challenge,

 Why

did you _

curse

us?

A subdued

Ole Koikai

answered,  I didn't ^

understand

what

you

were

doing. We hadn't

talked

about Jesus and baptism ^

together. His voice trailed [_

off.

  But

now

YOU

believe

this

Tangile.

 Yes, I do

answered

was

gone. The

dividing

wall was

destroyed.

  It

is late, someone suggested.

from Christ . .. without hope

God

in the

world.

But

now

i n Chri st Jesus you

have been brought near.... For

He

Himself is our peace who

has

the

hostility....

And

in him you are

being built

together

to become a

dwelling in which

God

lives by

His Spirit Ephesians 2:11-22

A dividing wall of hostility has

fallen

here,

and

a

living stone

has been added to the dwelling

in

which

God

l ives by

His

Spirit.
