From the second-half of the 19th century mining has been very important in our region

The second most important canned fish industry was in Candás and now Remo continues with it.

Asturias typical drink is taken from the apples and made in “ llagares”. You have to “escanciar” or pour the cider into a special glass before drinking it

The most popular cheese from Asturias is Cabrales cheese.

There are a lot of cheeses made here.

Several liquors(spirits) are made from apples.

Linen and woolen clothes like scarves, shirts, underwear… are made on the looms.

Today there are shepherds that keep cows, sheep and goats in the wild.

SHEPHERDS

Fishermen have been very important on our coast since prehistoric times.

The nets are repaired in the port after fishing.

They are craftsmen who make iron tools and works of art.

“Madreñas” are wooden shoes used to work in the field and protect from dirt or mud.

Asturian baskets were made of hazel wood to carry a wide variety of products.

Handmade knives in Taramundi.

They manufacture a lot of objets for example : bags, balls, belts, wallets…

Jet craftmen design and make several types of jewellery.

The pottery from “Llamas de Mouro” is very typical. It’s black.
