Dear MusiClubbers,
2018 is moving quickly! Our new lineup of instruments is
exciting and we have a massive number of programs to
enhance your playing.
Before Christmas, we were delighted to welcome Lothar
Kiesche from Schimmel Pianos Germany. In addition to
Piano Technician Training, he visited Schimmel stores in
Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and called in to some
very special Schimmel owners, including Genazzano, PLC
and Hailebury Colleges.
At the NAMM Show in January, I was thrilled to receive the
Oral History Award (see back page) and to play the new
Hammond SK-x. What a sensational portable organ! I met
with friends from Schimmel, Hailun Bernstein, Orla and
Johannus to make sure we have the best selection of
instruments for you.
Please make sure to “like” us on facebook, keep an eye on
our fabulous specials lists, and join in the sensational
concerts, workshops and events here at the store.
Remember what we say at Bernie’s... please bring some
more music into your lives every day!
Bernie Capicchiano
Special Announcement
Bernie receives Industry Award On January 26, 2018, Bernie Capicchiano was
presented the 2018 industry award by the
National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM)
for contribution to Oral History and Services.
The award recognises Bernie’s years of support
and dedication to the NAMM Oral History Program
and his contribution to the music products
industry. In 2017 alone he coordinated the
interviewing of 50 significant Australians.
In a letter of congratulations to Bernie, Elizabeth
Dale from NAMM wrote “Your enthusiasm is a
shining example of the passion and innovative
thinking that makes our industry great.”
Bernie’s interest in the global project began in
2013 when he was nominated by Jon Hammond
to be interviewed to mark the 80 year Anniversary
celebration of the famous Hammond Organ
Company. He met NAMM Historian, Dan Del
Fiorentino and later sparked the idea to include
Australia in the Oral History Catalogue to
celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Australian
Music Association. Over the years NAMM has
worked and sponsored through Foundation
Grants many great projects in Australia. These
include Music Count Us In, Music Futures,
Weekend Warriors, Seseme Street, National
Review of School Music plus more. To Interview
key people seemed a very appropriate way to
hear their amazing stories.
Over the months the list grew from three to over
fifty industry luminaries. It included Composers,
Inventors, Professors, Educators, Concert Artists,
Industry Manufacturers, Wholesalers, Retailers
and Key Sales People. Once both Organisations
embraced the project dates were set and Dan with
his wife Suzanne travelled to Australia for over
two weeks in August and September 2017. Bernie
coordinated the video interviews in Melbourne,
Brisbane/ Gold Coast, and Sydney.

Each year at The NAMM Show in Anaheim, our
CEO, Joe Lamond, and our Music Historian,
Dan Del Fiorentino (pictured above) present the
NAMM Oral History Service Award. This award
is presented to a person who has been a
dedicated supporter of our video collection and
has helped us seek, research, and arrange
interviews to expand the collection. In January, it
was our honor to celebrate the contributions
Bernie Capicchiano has provided to this
important project. Thank you, Bernie!
With over 100,000 attendees, the NAMM Show
is the world’s largest trade display and
convention for music products.
Bernie was delighted to travel to Los Angeles
and receive this award (on Australia Day!)

CLASSIC ORGAN NEWS
In October, sensational classic organist, Martin van Heerde visited from Holland. We toured Melbourne, Adelaide, Cooranbong and Sydney where he opened organs at Avondale Memorial Church and St. Mary Magdalene. In addition to his concert work, Martin is an active church musician and well regarded choral conductor. In his spare time, Martin is the European Sales Manager for Johannus and was a wealth of knowledge about organ specifications and technology.
While Martin was here, we consulted at St. Michaels Church Belfield Sydney and here is the subsequent installation.
St. Lukes Mt Waverley received their new Johannus Ecclesia Choir just in time for the organist to practice for Christmas. Craig D.
