Operating characteristics

Operationally, the navigation of these machines follows the familiar Aqualtis design, with linear style programming going from left to right.

The Start/Pause and Power On/Reset functions are also standard Aqualtis.

5

Operating characteristics

Power On:This button switches the machine on and off and is also used to cancel the programme running currently (standard Aqualtis).

Start/Pause: Used to start the programme selected by the user, and to pause or restart the programme running currently.

If the pause button is pressed and the programming knob then turned, the machine will switch from the programme currently selected to the new programme indicated by the knob.

Operating characteristics

Stand-by modeA new Stand-by operating mode has been introduced on these machines.

The machine switches off automatically after 2 minutes approx following the end of the programmed wash cycle, or following power-up when no programme is selected.

Make certain this is known, to avoid needless replacement of the Main PCB.

7

Operating characteristics

Recognition of Load Weight and Dynamic Time to End:The Main PCB calculates the weight of the load according to the selected programme, the motor torque before the machine fills with water, and the time taken for the machine to fill and the contents to soak.

If the computed weight is less than 75% (approx) of the factory-indicated weight for the selected programme, the electronics will calculate a new (shorter) Time to End. If not, the machine will use the normal time for the selected programme.

Important: the drum will turn a few revolutions dry initially, before filling with water, to take a reading of the motor torque. MAKE CERTAIN THIS IS KNOWN, TO AVOID NEEDLESS REPLACEMENT OF THE MAIN PCB.

8

Operating characteristics

Antifoam with Linear Pressure Switch:Algorithm target: The electronics intervene to eliminate excess foam that may be lingering/generated in the drum during the spin cycle.

Operation: the algorithm counts the number of times the pressure switch trips from empty to full during the spin. The first and second time the pressure switch trips, the spin phase is reinitialized. The third time the pressure switch trips to full, the antifoam algorithm is invoked; at this point, a copious amount of water is let into the machine in one or more bursts, with the drum at standstill, followed by a gentle movement of the drum and a further attempt to activate the spin. If on the other hand the pressure switch is activated once or twice for a duration of more than 60 seconds, the machine will add a further empty-full event to the total events already recorded.

New Programmes

No new programmes and options are available for this initial production. “Steam” wash programmes and options are currently at the development stage.

Components

LCD Control Panel:The Control Panel of the LCD interface incorporates a capacitivecontact. A sticker glued to the inside of the door communicates by way of a flat cable with a Display PCB installed physically within the door.In the event of a malfunction, a failed PCB can be replaced as in existing Aqualtis washing machines, whereas if the capacitive contact should fail, then the entire door must be replaced, naturally recovering the Display PCB if still good.

12

Components

Linear Pressure Switch:Unlike the existing either/or pressure switch, the Linear Pressure Switch is able to sense not only the empty or full condition, but also the quantity of water in the tub.

Internally, the component comprises a coil and a magnet which, when caused to shift (by the machine filling or draining), generates a given frequency readable by the Main PCB. On the basis of the information provided by the pressure switch, the Main PCB is able to establish exactly how much water the tub contains.

The device functions between: 9.5 Hz approx (empty) and 10.7 Hz approx (tub full of water).

13

Components

Smart Drain Pump:The concept is quite simple: employing the new linear pressure switch, which is able to sense a minimum quantity of water in the tub, the electronic circuitry brings the drain pump into operation only when there is water effectively in the tub; this has the effect of eliminating noise made by the drain pump (cavitation) when caused to run empty.

Autotest Sequence

Autotest Sequence:

● 1 litre of water loaded by main wash solenoid valve

● 1 litre of water loaded by prewash solenoid valve

● Tub filled with water from both solenoid valves up to “Pressure Switch Full” level (softener)

● Motor operated in both directions

● Heating element activated to a temperature of 30°C

● Drain and spin

● Stop

FAULT indication uses binary logic. Leds remain permanently alight when indicating a Fault, and blink when indicating stages of the wash cycle.

Serviceability

Fault management:The washing machine handles fault situations like any other Arcadia machine. When the autotest is started up with a Last Fault still in the memory, the fault is displayed and the machine remains locked up. Unplugging the machine or pressing the On/Off button, the Last Fault memory will be cleared. If there is no Fault memorized, the autotest sequence will beginimmediately after this procedure.

Mainboard programming

Three different methods are available for programming the Main PCB:

1. Using the handheld/FFA (with MemWriter)

2. Using a PC (in UK)

3. Using the Smart Reader andSmart Card.

Whichever method is used, refer to documentation on the relative technology.
