Dear Esplanade Residents,
We would like to wish you a warm welcome and thank you for choosing to become part of our community! As
you check out the upcoming events for the month, please make sure to RSVP so that proper accommodations
can be made. We encourage your participation in our resident lifestyle events so you have the opportunity to
meet and mingle with your fellow neighbors. We have some great activities coming up this month and hope to
see you there!
Thank you to everyone who came out for our last couple of Shows. In the past weeks we have seen Keith Allyn
as Neil Diamond as well Irish Comedian George Casey. Back by popular demand, Larry Silver will be returning to
Esplanade. Larry brought his Hypnosis Comedy Show to Esplanade in 2016 and will be back on April 13th at the
Amenity Center for another hilarious performance. We have a stage for Larry this year, so even the seats in the
back will get a great view of the show. We still have a handful of tickets remaining so get your today! I know
it’s early but we have plenty of other shows and group trips planned for 2017. Other fun shows you can catch
this year include Orchestra in the Outfield in May, the Rays vs. Yankees this Summer at the Trop, the Tampa Bay
Bucs football games vs the New England Patriots as well as the New York Giants, and another dueling Piano
Show this Fall. There is still time to sign up for our group Southeast Asian Cruise, scheduled to set sail in early
2018. Please contact Gary for more details.
Lastly, keep an eye out for our next Signature Event. Our Glitz and Glamour themed party will have Esplanade
residents dressed to the nines for a fun night out. This event is slated for Saturday, April 29th at 6p.m. at the
Bahama Bar. Please RSVP no later than 4/23.
Cheers,
Gary Hamill & your Esplanade Lifestyle Team

What a playoff! Dear Residents,
With his partner Jon Bailey watching, it all came down to a six foot putt to win it all for Art Hatch! What an
epic finish to our first Annual Member-Member Golf Championship. With ice in their veins, the Hatch/Bailey
team withstood the test from the other three flight winners in an alternate-shot shootout to be crowned the
2017 Member-Member Champions! Great playing to all. We look forward to more epic events in the future.
I look forward to seeing you on the links!

Take three golf balls and putt the first ball past your target ("too hot"), the second ball short of your target ("too
cold") and the third ball between the first two ("just right"). While doing the drill, pay attention to two feelings.
The first feeling you want to focus is the overall amount of energy you are applying to the ball and the
differences between all three putts. At first you may not notice the differences very easily. With practice you will
become more aware of the differences and as you your touch improves, even very subtle differences. The second
feeling to be aware of is the amount of energy in the backswing relative to the forward swing. Players with poor
distance control tend to have strokes that add extra energy in the forward swing relative to the backswing for
long putts and have less energy than the backswing for short putts. Sense that the energy is the same on the
backswing and the forward swing and sense the overall amount of energy for each of the different putts. The
long putt will require more overall energy than the short putt, with the middle putt requiring energy that is
between the first two. As your awareness improves, the distance between the "hot" ball and the "cold" ball will
shrink and you will become very sensitive to slight differences in the amount of energy you are applying to the
ball. As your awareness develops, your touch and feel will become much more sensitive.
By practicing this drill with long and short putts, uphill and downhill putts, and different breaking putts, you
can develop the feelings in your body that you need to have great touch and feel! Have a great month!

Happy April! This month I'm going to talk about awareness drills and how they can help you learn to become a
more skilled golfer. Awareness drills are designed to allow you to feel different things in your body depending
on the focus of the drill. This month, the video demonstrates the "Goldilocks Drill". It is an awareness drill that is
proven to quickly improve touch and feel on and around the greens for those who do it. Have fun with this drill
and don't try to be perfect!

How To Prevent Common Tennis Injuries
It seems to me that no matter what physical activity you enjoy participating in, the word injuries always creeps up. It
doesn’t really matter what age you are, how long you have played that certain sport, or any other kind of demographic you
would like to use. I think understanding what those injuries are and specifically how to prevent them helps can go a long
way into how long you can continue to play that sport.
Tennis Elbow: is the inflammation of the tendons of the elbow generally caused by overuse. When you play, this is
actually the area that is used the most. This is probably the most common injury amongst tennis players. If a player pays
attention to the size of their grip as well as learning the proper technique this will vastly aide in the prevention of tennis
elbow. Along side of this, we all know about warming up our muscles properly, but getting a normal warm up routine as
well as strengthening the muscles around it is always a good idea.
Shoulder Injuries: Another common type of injury amongst tennis players is in the shoulders, or also known as a rotator
cuff injury. The job of the rotator cuff is to help position the shoulder in the socket. This injury occurs when the muscle is
fatigued and there is a lot more movement of the shoulder in the socket. This can tend to cause a “friction” which can
definitely prohibit suck strokes as the serve and the overhead. By flexing and extending your wrist against some light
resistance with an exercise band a couple time a week can help prevent this injury.
Muscle Strains: In one form or fashion we may all have experienced a muscle strain in some part of our bodies. Very
simply, this comes from a quick, sudden move. We may have felt these anywhere in our bodies. Although there may not
be a way to completely rid yourself of the aggravating muscle strain, there are certain ways to definitely be able to
diminish them. If you have a good warm up as jogging and the right stretching, it will go a long way to minimize this injury.
Make sure to keep your stretches slow and intentional and hold for about 30 seconds. See if you can keep your overall
warmup to around 5 minutes and see what a difference that can make.
It is probably inevitable at some point or another we are going to have some kind of injury, but we only get one body and
it behooves us to take good care of it. Knowing how to prevent an injury will go a long way in continuing to play tennis- a
sport of a lifetime.
Wellness Seminars and Events
We are now in the fourth month of 2017 and as well as huge success with the group fitness classes, personal training and
Technogym we are excited to be adding more seminars and events to the calendar.
Ildi held a fantastic Yoga retreat at the end of February with a full two days of yoga, health assessments, Acupuncture and
massage. We are excited that she has her second Yoga retreat on April 1-2 and is sure to be even more successful as the first
one.
Matt Blumer is going to be hosting a Wellness seminar on April 16th covering ‘Corrective Exercise’. Join us for a free seminar to
learn how integrated corrective exercise techniques can help improve mobility, prevent injuries, and teach your body to be
pain free!
Performance Training
Many of you will have met and spoken with Levi Root our resident golf performance trainer. Levi continues to promote and
facilitate the fantastic teaching of golf performance. We are thrilled to announce that our Golf Yoga instructor Sage Johnson has
now been added to the performance training team. Sage has one of the most successful group fitness classes in Esplanade and
has had fantastic feedback from all that take his class. Just some of Sage’s qualifications include: Class A member of the PGA of
America, a certified PGA golf instructor, certified TPI personal trainer and much much more. Check out
www.esplanadelwr.com under the performance training section for more information, rates and availability.
What is TPI?
TPI or Titleist Performance Institute, is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human
body functions in relation to the golf swing. Since its inception in 2003, TPI has studied thousands of golfers ranging from the
top professional Tour players to weekend enthusiasts. An incredible amount of data on players of all shapes, sizes, ages, and
fitness levels has been gathered during this time. Using this data, TPI discovered how a properly functioning body allows a
player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way possible. Additionally, TPI has analyzed how physical limitations in a
player’s body can adversely affect the golf swing and potentially lead to injury.
Workshops
We had a great March with the workshops and we covered 5 informative topics: Treadmill Custom Programs, Technogym
Demo, Elliptical Custom programs, correct use of free weights, and resistance bands. We are moving into April with a slightly
different angle where we will be focusing on some specific areas and I will be bringing in some of our group fitness instructors
to talk about and demonstrate some of the moves from their classes so that you can get more of an idea should you wish to try
a group fitness class that you have not yet tried.

INSTRUCTIONS For the roasted vegetables:
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the prepped vegetables to a a glass baking dish and add just enough olive oil to lightly coat them. Sprinkle with the spices and salt and pepper to taste, and give a stir to combine them. Roast for about 30 minutes, stirring a couple of times, or until the vegetables are tender and a little browned.
For the lemon pepper avocado mash:
Mash the avocado well. Add to a bowl along with plenty of salt and pepper to taste. Finish with a couple of squeezes of lem-on, just enough to make the flavors pop.
For the roasted vegetable avocado garden wraps:
Warm a tortilla for 30 seconds on a skillet or in the microwave. Spread about a quarter of the avocado mash onto the tortilla. Top the avocado mash with a generous helping of roasted veggies, pressing them slightly into the avocado to adhere every-thing together. Finish with a big handful of sprouts.
Gently roll up the wrap, pushing the filling together as you go.
INGREDIENTS For the roasted vegetables:
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
1 small red onion, cut into thick slices
1 small head of cauliflower, cut into small florets
olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
