History of NAAIAThe National African-American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was founded by Jerald L. Tillman, LUTCF, in 1997 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Early in his career, 1977, he realized through his involvement with professional organizations that there was a disconnect with fellow black insurance professionals within the insurance industry. As a result, he began pondering the idea of establishing an association for black professionals involved in all areas of insurance. After twenty years of juggling between building his insurance agency and a national network of black insurance professionals, NAAIA was chartered in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 5, 1997 as a tax-exempt association under IRC section 501(c)6. NAAIA’s mission, simply put ,is to increase the number of African-American’s in the insurance business, both at the corporate level and independent agent level. NAAIA serves as a support group to encourage successful careers by promoting the highest educational and ethical standards, while networking effectively inside and outside the industry. NAAIA takes pride in working with current industry associations and resources in various collaborative efforts to promote diversity within the industry.

NAAIA MissionNAAIA is dedicated to empowering African-American insurance professionals currently in the industry as well as increasing their numbers nationwide. We engage in the sharing of information for personal growth and professional development while providing opportunities for networking, continuing education, and building mutually beneficial partnerships.

NAAIA’s involvement is on local, regional and national levels. We build relationships with traditional insurance industry trade associations and other organizations representing the interest of minorities in the ever growing, emerging multicultural marketplace of this business.
