6. Governance, Leadership and Management
6.1 State the Vision and Mission of the institution
Vision:
To achieve excellent standards of quality education by keeping pace with rapidly
changing technologies and to create technical manpower of global standards with
capabilities of accepting new challenges
Mission:
Our efforts are dedicated to impart quality and value based education to raise
satisfaction level of all stake holders. Our strength is directed to create competent
professionals. Our endeavour is to provide all possible support to promote research &
development activities.
6.2 Does the Institution has a management Information System
Yes, the institute has a well designed Management Information System. All the major
academic and non-academic activities are implemented through MIS.
6.3 Quality improvement strategies adopted by the institution for each of the
following:
6.3.1 Curriculum Development
Every department has Board of Studies and Focus Group comprising of eminent
academicians from IITs/NITs and other reputed institutes and industry persons. Every
department has Departmental Industry Advisory Board (DIAB) comprising of
Industry Persons. For curriculum development, the inputs are taken from all the
subject teachers. The suggestions from students are also obtained. The comparison of
existing curriculum has been done with IITs and NITs. The scope for improvement is
found out. Gap analysis is done and those topics are taken care. 15% syllabus is
flexible for each subject & advance trends are covered under this.
Six months full time industry Internship is mandatory for all UG students. Credit
transfer scheme (CTS) has been implemented and under this CTS students have
completed one semester at COE Pune and VJTI Mumbai. Two weeks social
internship is also included within six weeks of industrial training. The choice based
GHRCE-AQAR 2016-17 Page 45
Credit System (CBCS) has also been implemented. New electives are added in
elective list. In open elective list – Value Education is added.
6.3.2 Teaching and Learning
The planning and organization of the teaching, learning and evaluation scheduled for
all the programmes in each discipline is done by a committee consisting of the Dean
Academics, respective Heads of Departments, and one faculty from each department.
There are seven TAEs (Teachers Assessment Examination) out of which best 5 are
considered. These TAE activities are Seminar, quiz, poster presentation, chapter
review etc. Students are required to appear for 3 CAEs (Class assessment
Examinations) and average of all is considered. The institute is conducting the
academic audits (internal & external) wherein the quality of questions, notes, TAEs,
projects etc is rigorously checked. At the start of the session the teaching plan is
prepared by faculty members and monthly compliance is observed. The classroom
teaching is done through various tools like Power point presentations, MOOCS,
QEEE, NPTEL, interactive teaching boards etc. Online Learning Resources (LRs) are
also used.
Academic flexibility is offered through introduction of various core and open
electives, self study subjects, open ended experiments, teachers assessment through
various activities like presentations, mini projects, industry visits, guest lectures etc.
This provides ample academic flexibility to teachers and students. There is an
established mechanism to obtain feedback from all stakeholders. The online feedback
is obtained from students twice in a semester. The remedial classes are conducted for
academically weaker students
Various General Proficiency courses (GP) are conducted. The other practices include
industrial visits, guest lectures, lectures by industry persons, foreign language courses,
skill enhancement programmes, hobby module, etc.
6.3.3 Examination and Evaluation
The institution has continuous evaluation system in place wherein three class
assessment tests (out of which one is online), five to seven teachers assessment
parameters, and end semester examination are conducted during the semester
GHRCE-AQAR 2016-17 Page 46
according to academic calendar. Vacation examination conducted within one month.
Question paper audit is done.
Both CAE and ESE answer sheets are shown to students and grievances if any are
sorted out immediately. A committee is constituted which includes subject teacher,
subject experts and head of department. This committee looks after the grievances of
the students regarding evaluation. If there is more than 8% change in the marks scored
then revised marks are intimated to controller of examination. The students can
approach Deputy Directors if their grievances are unresolved. The relative grading
system is followed. Grade improvement facility is available for eligibility of the
degree and for the class. Minimum CGPA required for award of degree is 5.25 for
undergraduate and 6.25 for postgraduate.
6.3.4 Research and Development
Research is a significant activity of the college which is reflected by the strong
Intellectual Capital. Institute supports and encourages faculty to undertake the
research projects. Also faculties are guiding UG, PG and Ph.D. students. R&D cell
financially supports the student’s projects. Apart from this students are sponsored to
participate in project competitions at other institutes. Institute annually hosts the
technical symposium wherein lot of technical competitions are organised. Special
recognition and incentives are given to faculties guiding research. Faculty completing
Ph.D. are given recognition and felicitated in the function. Incentives are given to
faculty members for getting research grants. Patent cell is looked after separately and
guidance is provided for the same. Institute is also supporting the faculties and
students for filing patents. The patent filing assistance and incentives are given to
students. At least one research paper is mandatory to PG students. To improve the
quality of research, the plagiarism checks are implemented through plagiarism
softwares for postgraduate and doctoral thesis and publications.
There is a dedicated R&D Cell headed by Dean (R&D) for facilitating and monitoring
research. The composition of R&D Cell is as follows
Dean (R&D)
Associate Dean (R&D)
Departmental R&D Coordinators
GHRCE-AQAR 2016-17 Page 47
Apart from this there are various other committees like RPC (Research
