He talks on a variety oftopicsrangingfromBullyingtoDiversitytoForgivenesstoHonesty to Inner Beauty toOvercomingLimitingBeliefsto Positive Life Choices toPurpose (Identity) toSuicideto Substance Abuse toSuffering,andmuchmore. Szawala was born inDetroit and moved to hishometown of South Lyon

when he was five. He is a graduateoftheUniversityofMichigan –AnnArbor, withBachelor of Arts degrees inEconomics, Spanish andGlobal Change, as well asWayne State University ofDetroitwherehehasaMastersin Business AdministrationwithafocusinMarketingandEntrepreneurialManagement.Working in the automotiveindustry for five years after college, Szawala found hisgreater passion in workingwithyouth. MSU Alumni Club honors 16 local students

The Michigan State University Alumni Club of Saginaw County recognized 16 local students with its Junior Award. The 11th-graders were honored March 12 with a program at the Swan Valley Golf & Banquet Center in Thomas Township. This is the 16th year the club has given the award, based on nominations by school staff. The 2013 honorees included: Cierra Tolbert from Arthur Hill High School; Allison Dorr from Birch Run High School; Elise Weaver from Bridgeport High School; David Garza from Buena Vista High School; Jordan Dawkins from Carrollton High School; Jared Weisenberger from Chesaning Union High School; Melissa Ann Smith from Freeland High School; Hanna Massa from Hemlock High School; Steven Van Tiflin from Heritage High School; Kaitlyn Church from Merrill High School; Bridget Bator from Nouvel Catholic Central High School; Margarett McBride from Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy; Lyndon Nelson from Saginaw High School; Stefan Beeler from St. Charles High School; Alissa Gosen from Swan Valley High School; Ariel Muehfeld from Valley Lutheran High School. Delta College Students Receive Michigan Campus Compact Award

Michigan Campus Compact(MiCC) is pleased to announcethat five students from Delta College were awarded for theirdedication and commitment tocommunity service during the17th annual Outstanding StudentService Awards Celebration,April 13, at the Kellogg Hoteland Conference Center in EastLansing. Each year, MiCC awardsstudents from member collegesand universities across the statefortheiroutstandingcommitmentto service-learning and civic

engagement. Three types ofawardsaregiven:theOutstandingCommunity Impact Award, theCommitment to Service Awardand the Heart and Soul Award.Thisyear,morethan450studentsfrom 33 member campusesreceivedawards. Justin Macheslski andKimberly Owen received theCommitment to Service Award.The award, given to only 33students statewide, recognizesstudents’ breadth or depth ofcommunity involvement orservice experiences. Only 33

students statewide received thisaward. Macheslski has engagedDeltastudentsinpoliticsthroughfounding The DemocracyCommitment Student Club andleading efforts promoting voterregistration. Owen has beenan integral leader in the newlyimplementedPublicAchievementprogram which nationally helpsyoung people shape the worldaroundthem. VonnieJackson,ElaireMooreand Charles Sledge received theHeartandSoulAward.Thisawardis given to students to recognize

their time, effort and personalcommitmenttotheircommunitiesthroughservice. Michigan Campus Compactis a coalition of college anduniversity presidents who arecommitted to fulfilling the public purpose of higher education.MiCCpromotestheeducationandcommitmentofMichigancollegestudents to be civically engagedcitizens, through creating andexpandingacademic,co-curricularand campus-wide opportunitiesfor community service, service-learningandcivicengagement.
