How did it work?

Action – How do we act?The action component of the PYP can involve service in the widest sense of the word: service to fellow students, and to the larger community, both

in and outside the school. Through such service, students are able to grow both personally and socially, developing skills such as cooperation,

problem-solving, conflict resolution, and creative and critical-thinking.

Pennies for Peace

Action started during Peace Day originated from the second grade Unit “Where we are in place and time” on communities

Malawi-Walk-A-Thon originated from the 5th grade exhibition on poverty

Pre-School Trike-A-Thon supporting St. Jude Hospital was teacher initiated to model empathy and action

Collection for UNICEF during Halloween originated in

the 4th grade unit ”Who we are” investigating different belief systems

Funds collected during a car wash Vorschule supported endangered animals at the San Francisco Zoo and originated in their unit “Sharing the Planet”

Action Club

• Who? students who are caring and want to make a difference

• When? every Wednesday from 12-12:25pm

• Why? to organize fundraising ideas

Action Club was triggered by the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010

Destroyed Buildings

1.000.000 People in need of shelter

People are in need of food, water and medicine

Funds collected will go to the Red Cross

What can we do?

First Action:

SMV put up donation jar in the office
