When did it happen?” (Mirror)

CHILD “He pushed me this morning while we

were playing with blocks.”

MOM “Oh, you’re playing when he pushed you.

How’d you feel about it?” (Feelings) CHILD “I got hurt when he pushed me.”

Listening and Speaking to Kids

MOM “That may really hurt, what did you do when you

were pushed?” (Feelings)

CHILD

“I told the new kid that I will not play with him anymore if he still pushes me. Then I told teacher.”

MOM

“It’s okay to tell him you will no longer will play with him if that happens again, and it’s good too that you told teacher. Are you okay with that?.” (Mom’s message to child)

CHILD “ Yes, I’m okay. I feel better now.”

TEEN “Mom, can I play computer on Saturday with Rica and Meg from 2 to 5pm at Blue Skies?.”

MOM “I see you want to play computer with your friends on Saturday. Sounds like fun!” (Mirror)

TEEN “ Yes it will be fun. I need a break from school.”

MOM “I see you’re tired and need a break. But what is our rule regarding playing computer? Is it ok if you play computer an hour then swim or bake brownies? (choice)

TEEN “But computer is fun. Yes an hour computer only as a rule. Well, I will ask my friends to swim or bake or both!”

MOM “It’s good that you remember our rule. Now what do you think can be done?” (Affirm, ask for solution)

TEEN “Oh, they will go with me swimming and baking. It is the company that counts more than the activity. Bye mom.”
