A Decade of IDST and

Way Ahead…..

IDST was established in 2004 with following major objectives :

a) Second line solution provider to DRDO b) Consultancy, technical advice & Training c) IV &V d) Books, journals, research papers &

compile research studies and statistics related to DRDO

e) Collaborate & cooperate with national & international professional associations & bodies.

Visionaries Who Created IDST

Dr. VK Aatre Dr. R.P Shenoy Dr. E.Bhagiratha Rao Maj.Gen. R.Swaminathan Dr. A K Datta Dr. Ram Kumar Dr. K Ramchand Dr. G.C.Dubey

IDST Has Completed 1000 + Projects with its strength of 1026 members.

What We Intend.. Contribute in DRDO’s Programmes

as long we remain Relevant and You Need Us

Support DRDO in the Areas Where DRDO Scientists not able to contribute due to Time Pressure & Shortage of Expert Hands

Where DRDO is yet to implement

new techniques, such as Design Science, Design research & Design Methodologies which many advanced nations have already implemented.

Enhance Academy interaction National & International

Collaboration

IDST Collaborations..

National Level MOU with BAe-HAL, effective from 1.10.2014 for

development of various small air-crafts and systems.

International Level MOU with TOMSK State University & FRPC Altai

Russia, effective from 3.12.2014 for High Energy and other Material science.

Development process as we practice

We mostly remain within our conceived boundary i.e. A Single Operating Zone.

IDST To Promote DRDO- ACADEMY Interaction

Sponsored ProjectsSpecial Projects by students, B.Tech, M.Tech,Phd Collaborative Projects for PSUs and Industries Short Term & Long Term (M Tech) Courses in

specific areas, such as High Energy Material, Modeling & Simulations etc.

Creation of Centre of Excellences in specific areas: Reliability Estimation, Electronic Packaging etc.

IDST can Participate in DRDO’s Academy Projects at : The proposed Centre of Excellences 30 NITs spread across the country Interaction in the CARS and other projects

initiated through EP&IR Take up analysis of recent academy projects

( 3-5 years) for their usefulness to DRDO and the industries ,

& suggest on continuation of potential ones.

IDST’s Specific Role..• Interaction with Laboratories to identify future

Academy projects (5-7) • Interact with Academy to identify the capability &

expertise that exist with Academy to meet DRDO’s need.• Assist to frame the projects with the Labs & Academies.• Prepare the Format of Input that to be generated from

the Labs.• Coordinate with Labs for timely availability of Input.• Ensure RegularMonitoring the projects at Academy• Participate in Design Reviews.• Participate in Final documentation.• Identify Industries for TOT, if applicable.

What IDST Can DO……

IDST Can Contribute in : Academy Interactions Participate in Product & Technology

Development Taking up Turn key Projects from PSUs

and industries Create few Centres of excellence in

very specific areas

Documentation: Design, Quality, Process, TOT etcTechnology IntelligenceMarket Survey & ResearchOrganise Special Courses, Seminars

etc.Collaborative Work with national &

international organisations.

IDST In Product &Technology Development

Reliability Analysis and Assessment Incorporate practical experience into mathematical modeling. Electronic Packaging. optimisation of size, weight ; Environmental protection. Product Standardisation, Benchmarking & Certification. Product with applicable standards, modularity etc. DRDO’s own policy , methods and authority for Product

Certification. System Modeling and Simulation. in various areas, Chemical & Metallurgical Process, Mechanical , Electrical systems etc.

Centre for Life Assessment Highly important activity, specially for propellant,

composite, elastomers etc. Proper methodology needs to be established.

IDST Special Groups : IDST THINK TANK & Planning Defence Requirement, Policy Research &

Analysis Utilisation of DRDO Technology for

Commercial & Societal needs

OTHER ACTIVITIES: Assisting DRDO to create DATA BANK on

infrastructure, expertise, publication, technical report etc.

Preparation of Design Normatives.ASK QUESTIONS.

IDST operation quality: On-Line & Transparent Accounting

System Video Conf. & Web –Meeting to cut

down cost on travel Periodic Review of Rules Internal Technical Audit

Catch Them Young.. GUEST MEMBERSHIP TO Serving

Scientists AT 55+ To: 1. Apprise IDST about emerging

technologies 2. Participate in Design Review 3. Suggest future tasks.

IDST Strategy.. IDST Technical and Scientific

activities will be performed through structured groups/teams. Tier 1. Cluster Level S&T Groups.

Tier 2. Under S&T Groups, Core Technology Teams in specific areas

IDST Strategy.. Technology Specific Core Teams will be constituted,

Examples: Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Guidance & Control, Radar, Metallurgy etc.

Core Teams are the empowered building blocks of IDST ,will look for assignments, build the teams and carry out the tasks.

Core Teams can invite external experts, academies professional etc. for specific task

50- 60 Core Teams can be constituted With 5 members average in each team, 250-300

members can be engaged in academy interaction and other projects.

IDST Strategy.. Special Core Teams: 1. HR functions : Interaction with members,

training in emerging technology

2. Reliability Assessment 3. Modeling & Simulation. 4. Standardisation. 5. Product Development & Certification. 6. Industry Interaction. 7. DRDO Interaction. 8. PSUs Interaction 9. Interaction with other Professional Organisation.
