Personalized approach to treatment of endometriosis

Yana Aznaurova,CIEP «Medicine of the Future»

Endometriosis

• Endometriosis is a common and painful condition characterized by the existence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity (endometrial implant).

• Endometriosis present with severe symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain, pain with menstruation, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) and dysmenorrhea

Significance

Endometriosis is one of the most enigmatic diseases:• the etiology and underlying pathophysiology is

still largely unknown• endometriosis impairs the quality of life of

women of reproductive age• in 30% leads to infertility

AnalogsHormone therapy Surgery Symptomatic

treatmentPersonalized

approach

Non-specific,

long-term, often lifetime

has many side effects

Does not eliminate the cause of the disease,

high probability of recurrence

"Operation of despair"

Short-term relief of symptoms,

does not cure the disease,

has side effects

Specificity

correction of intracellular damage,

low probability of recurrence

less side-effects

1 course of therapy+ IVF= $ 5500

1 operation + hormone therapy + IVF = $ 6700

1 course of therapy + IVF = $ 5250

1 biopsy + 1 genetic analysis + the cost of drugs = $ 760

Competitive advantages

• individual approach to treatment • effective targeted selection of drugs• lower economic cost of treatment • optimization of the making decision on the

treatment option for each patient

Scientific novelty

• Drug's prescribing is based on the genetic analysis of each patient

Current state

• Bioinformatic analysis of the main signaling pathways involved in pathogenesis of endometriosis in the article «Molecular aspects of development and regulation of endometriosis» in Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology Journal

• Perspective article about possibility of using Oncofinder software to implement the idea

Planned

• Creating a database of intracellular changes that underlie endometriosis

• Creating the medical protocol of personalized approach to diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis

• Obtaining a patent on intellectual property

Implementation stages

Biopsy

Microchipping

Targeting drugs selection

In-vitro validation

Resources

• The required sum of money (grant funds) - $ 220,000

• Scientific collaboration
