7Belgian economic mission
HrH Princess astrid, Princess of belgium was born in brussels on 5 June 1962. She is the second child of King albert ii and Queen Paola, and the sister of the King.
at the request of Hm the King, HrH Princess astrid represented him and presided over the economic missions to angola and South af-rica in october 2013 and to india in november 2013. it is widely recognised that missions such as these have a positive impact on the development of economic and trade relations between belgium and its regions and many overseas partners. they also enable bridges to be built between belgian and foreign com-panies as well as between belgian companies themselves.
as Honorary Chairwoman of the Queen elisa-beth medical foundation (Qemf), the europe-an organisation on research and treatment of Cancer (eortC) Charitable trust and the Science and medical funds of the King bau-douin foundation, HrH Princess astrid sup-ports clinical and fundamental research.
the Princess is also active in the fight against epidemics and pandemics: i.e. as “Special representative” of the roll back malaria partnership to fight malaria.
HrH Princess astrid is also particularly con-cerned by the plight of victims of violence. She is therefore fully engaged in the efforts to ban antipersonnel mines.
HrH Princess astrid is also a member of the international Paralympics Committee Honor-ary board. She is also the Honorary President of the non-profit association damien action.
HrH Princess astrid is known to be highly concerned about persons who - through a va-riety of circumstances - become marginalised citizens. She visits and encourages in many ways those organisations which offer assis-tance to those who are in need of help.
on June 20th 2013, the Secretariat of the anti-Personnel mine ban Convention/ottawa Con-vention announced that HrH Princess astrid - as Special envoy of the Convention - has joined a task force which will undertake dip-lomatic efforts to obtain the signature of the Convention by States not yet party to it.
Since 22 november 1996, HrH Princess astrid has been a member of the belgian Senate as senator by right. She also joined the belgian armed forces on 22 may 1997. the Princess is a Colonel in the medical unit.
HrH Princess astrid performs her public duties as expected within the context of the royal family with particular interest for the problems of our contemporary society.
HrH Princess astrid studied art history at leiden in the netherlands. She completed her education in geneva, at the institute of european Studies and in michigan in the united States.
on 22 September 1984, HrH Princess astrid married in brussels lorenz, arch-duke d’autriche-este, who became Prince of bel-gium in 1995. the Prince was born in bou-logne-billancourt on 16 december 1955.

The Belgian Finance Club (BFC) is a apolitical associa-tion, without a lobbying goal and unconnected to any group of financial institutions.
The BFC responds to the need of creating links between the main players in the Belgian Financial Arena.
One of the goals of the Finance Club is to promote and develop the Brussels financial place.
It brings together and represents a great variety of play-ers active in the financial industry: issuers, investors, banks, asset managers, insurance companies and fi-nancial intermediaries.
Trough several events, BFC intends to reinforce the at-tractiveness of the Belgian financial marketplace and supports international promotion.
One objective is to promote the strengths and opportu-nities of the Belgian financial markets to international investors, issuers and financial intermediaries.
BFC wants to be considered as a window of the Belgian Financial Activities.

Belgium-based companies have decades of experi-ence with projects in the fields of oil, gas & energy. The Carbon Energy Club groups these strong players into a tight network that firmly places Belgian-based knowhow in oil, gas & energy projects on the international scene.
For end customers as well as EPC contractors, the abil-ity to find a suitably experienced partner is essential to undertake a project of any size in the carbon energy & gas industries. The Carbon Energy Club answers this need by operating as an international platform between both parties. If you are looking for a unique point of contact for innovative technologies, operating from the heart of Europe, you have found it.
Why the Carbon Energy Club is a unique player.
The member companies of the Carbon Energy Club cov-er a wide range of activities: from design, engineering, manufacturing and commissioning of steel structures (including inspection, testing, certification and mainte-nance) through to lifting equipment, visualization sys-tems, software solutions, and health, safety & environ-ment services. Voka - Antwerp-Waasland Chamber of Commerce and Industry is an organisation that brings together over 3000 businesses from our region. The Chamber is an in-dependent, politically neutral interprofessional organi-sation and covers multiple sectors. The Chamber’s mis-sion is very clear: as an independent organisation for the companies and businesses in our region, the Chamber aims at stimulating economic activity and promoting a better entrepreneurial climate. The Chamber contrib-utes to furthering economic development of our Region by lobbying, networking and offering specific services for individual entrepreneurs.
Antwerp and the Waasland region are good for almost 42% of Flemish export. Therefore, international con-tacts are of paramount importance for our region.
The Chamber’s International Department is an active promoter for entrepreneurs to establish these contacts.
The Chamber provides entrepreneurs in finding foreign business partners, both in and outside the European Union, through coaching in our international busi-ness clubs and through study- and network missions. The Chamber participates in joint projects with other countries and regions. These projects stimulate the co-operation and business connections in both regions in-volved. We also welcome foreign delegations to discover our beautiful region; as well as our Antwerp companies which can give true added-value.

In our 21st century economy, where trade contacts reach across the globe and where time is of the essence, commercial conflicts require efficient solutions. More and more, parties in dispute are therefore turning to arbitration. As a means of dispute resolution, arbitra-tion offers all the usual legal guarantees, but offers in addition a greater flexibility and time efficiency, avoid-ing extra costs and delays. At the heart of Europe, the city of Brussels stands out as a seat for international arbitration. The European capital offers some unique advantages and meets all the requirements for an effi-cient, secure and accessible resolution of your commer-cial disputes in an atmosphere of trust, confidentiality, open-mindedness and plurilinguism. As the Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, CEPANI helps its clients solve their commercial conflicts in a safe and ef-ficient manner. We commit to providing parties in dis-
pute with the right legal and administrative framework, to ensure a swift handling of the case. Founded in 1969, CEPANI is the main centre for arbitration in Belgium and has also expanded its activities into other methods of dispute resolution. At the heart of Brussels, home to several institutions of the European Union as well as many other international companies and organizations, CEPANI provides its services in both a national and an international context.

As a multicultural University in the heart of Europe, with one third of students and researchers from abroad, International Relations is a daily reality for the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), just like Brussels itself, one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. The ULB’s out-ward-looking position with regard to Europe and the world has resulted in a number of agreements, collabo-rations and partnerships being set up with some of the world’s top universities. Four scientific Nobel Prizes, one Fields Medal and three Wolf Prizes are further evidence of the University’s longstanding tradition of excellence. The ULB is involved in almost 80 projects financed by the 6th and 7th European Framework Programs. In addition, the University’s Institute for European Studies is recog-nized as a “Jean Monnet European research center”.
The ULB has 13 faculties, schools and institutes that cover all the disciplines, closely combining academic in-put and research. As a French-speaking university, most of the courses are delivered in French. However, a grow-ing number of Master programs are partly or entirely delivered in English. The ULB offers a wide range of French courses, prior to and during the academic year, to help its international students improve their language skills.
Since its foundation in 1834, the ULB has been closely involved in the ongoing debate on critical thinking and freedom. The ULB has retained its original ideals as a free institution that is firmly engaged in the defense of democratic and human values.

Moreover, inputting the lot number placed on each pot - http://www.melliris.fr/your-jar/ - consumers get to “know” the beekeepers, see where they are located and even have a few words from them.

Doorsolutions is a Belgian company that has developed a totally new technical door blade without internal frame and fire-rated, acoustic, anti-burglar, anti-X-ray.
It concerns a customised production for commercial and public market. The company wants to enlarge his home market with countries like Turkey and Asia. This mar-ket is highly specified and requires solid core doors that combine decorative finish (veneer, laminate or painted) with performance (fire resistance, acoustic, security etc.).
The architectural finish like dimensions, glass, special veneer, special lip, kind of wood …, determine the selling price of the door.
Unique selling points are:
◊ Mechanically and fire rated quality proven with test reports following the European Standards.
◊ Very flexible in reliance to height and width dimensions.
◊ Flemish flexibility in this conservative “door-world”.
The opportunity is to build a joinery manufacturing ex-port business of doors based on a well-tried and tested product, totally new to the target market.
In the period before the official CE-mark, the com-pany wants to work out directly a selling-network with companies of witch turn-over is important for install-ing/using technical “made to order” doors. The kind of partnerships, the company is looking for, are trade in-termediary and subcontracting.

We’re active in the development of passive safety devices and we participated to several conferences in Europe, North America, South America and South Africa to show the new technologies / standards available to improve road safety. We’re not only an engineering company but also technical advisers.
One of our objectives being, as example, the possibility to use safer roadside products (safety barriers, …) that are protecting both heavy trucks and passenger cars at the same time or to make cheaper systems for the same safety level.
Therefore, I think GDTECH could share its knowledge & competencies with your company to try to collaborate on the development of new products (that would be tested according to crash test standard such as EN1317 or NCHRP350 or MASH or any other testing standard).
GDTECH is also currently trying to be active World Wide concerning those topics and Middle East is one of our next targets for which we are searching local manufac-turers with which we could collaborate.
Based on the successful collaboration GDTECH has with its customers worldwide on the Road Safety topic, we’re confident that your company and GDTECH can have sim-ilar collaboration to improve safety.

At SGS, we provide independent services that touch the lives of millions of people across the globe. We provide you with industry leading inspection, verification, testing and certification services.
SGS Product Conformity Assessment (PCA) is a solution designed to ensure that specific products meet the re-quirements of the technical regulations and standards set by a regulatory authority in the importing country. Conformity of products is evidenced by the issuance of a Certifcate of Conformity (CoC), a document that is man-datory for custom clearance.
We operate PCA services and assist manufacturers and suppliers to achieve compliance of their exports to many countries including The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This
specific programme is under control of SASO (Saoudi Arabia Standards Organisation).
An SGS Product Conformity Assessment prevents the importation of unsafe, substandard or counterfeit goods.
PCA helps trade facilitation and protects the interests of traders: importers benefit from a faster custom clearance because verification activities have been completed.

VIGAN Engineering S.A. is based in the industrial area of Nivelles, South of Brussels, since 1968. The company designs, manufactures and erects dedicated equip-ment for the unloading of bulk vessels of grains and seeds. The range of equipment covers the small “grain pump” of 100-200 tons per hour, the “pneumatic ship-unloaders” on gantry with a suction capacity of 200 to 600 tph, and finally also the “mechanical unloaders” with capacities up to 1500 tph. VIGAN can unload bulk vessels of all sizes, from river barges to Panamax and post-Panamax. VIGAN has an extended reference list of equipment worldwide. VIGAN is the world-leader in this niche market. It can also be main contractor for larger grain terminals including unloaders or loaders, convey-ors, bagging units, storage solution, etc…
Since its creation, VIGAN has supplied more than 1200 equipment around the world. It has gained the confi-dence of large agro-industrial groups such as ADM, Bunge, Cargill, Soufflet, …
VIGAN exports 95% of its production outside of Europe, mainly towards the Middle East and Africa. Thanks to its success in export, VIGAN has been received awards such as “Awex Award for Export” in 1998 and 2010 as well as the International Bulk Journal Award 2011 in the “Best loading/unloading system” category.
In Saudi Arabia, VIGAN is present since the 1980’s. Recently VIGAN has sold 6 large unloading gantries of 600 tph each for the public “Grain Silo and Flour Mill Organisation - GSFMO”. The first 4 unloaders are be-ing erected in Jeddah and Dammam port. Two gantries for Jazan port are currently in production in Nivelles, Belgium. GSFMO has further projects to secure the needs for food and feed in the Kingdom and especial-ly two more grain terminals in the ports of Yanbu and Rabigh on the Western coast for which VIGAN is gearing up already.

The mission of the FPS Economy, SME’s, Self-Employed & Energy is to create the necessary conditions for a competitive, sustainable and balanced functioning of the Belgian market of goods and services. The strategy of the Department consists in 4 key activities: to know the goods and services market (including the providing of relevant and reliable statistics and of economic infor-mation), to regulate it, to supervise it (economic police) and to coordinate the Belgian position.
The FPS Economy, SME’s, Self-Employed & Energy, in concertation with business and in collaboration with the Regions and Communities, formulates the economic in-terests of Belgium.
In a context of an increasingly globalizing energy mar-ket and liberalization, DG Energy of the FPS Economy is responsible for the secure supply of energy (oil, coal, natural gas and electricity) within Belgium.
Finally, DG Energy strongly believes in an active energy diplomacy both on a bilateral and a multilateral basis (e.g. IEA, IEF, IRENA). It is also a promoter for regional collaboration and one of the driving forces behind the market coupling initiatives in Central-West Europe.

The Belgian Debt Agency is the federal debt manage-ment office of Belgium. It finances the federal state and it issues both long- and short term debt for this pur-pose. Belgium’s federal debt amounted to EUR 371.7 billion at the end of 2013.
Its principal debt product for the long-term investor is the linear obligation OLO which is exclusively issued in euro and which provides for a very high liquidity. Individual OLO lines can reach EUR 12 to 15 billion in terms of outstanding. In 2014, the Agency will issue EUR 30 billion of OLOs. The Agency proposes also a Euro Medium Term Note format which is used, amongst oth-ers, for funding in foreign currencies such as the USD.
Its short-term investment products are Treasury Certificates – highly liquid instruments in the form of T-bills – and Belgian Treasury Bills: the latter are is-sued both in euro and in foreign currencies.

Brussels, capital of Belgium, is an international city like no other. As the decision-making heart of Europe, it has become an international capital, where global opinion leaders meet to influence and do business, yet it re-mains small enough to allow its inhabitants to enjoy all the advantages of a human-size city.
The Brussels-Capital Region accounts for approximate-ly 20% of Belgium’s GDP. At least 85% of the Region’s economy consists of service activities.
Aside from being a top business location in general, the Brussels-Capital Region is home to thriving life scienc-es and “information and communication technology” (ICT) sectors.
◊ Life sciences: Belgium has a strong tradition in the life sciences, including biotechnology and pharma-ceutical activities, and close cooperation between universities and industry is a unique strength of the Brussels-Capital Region.
◊ Information and communication technology (ICT): the ICT sector in Brussels is extremely dynamic, and the software and multimedia sub-sectors are currently experiencing high growth. Access to top-level human capital and substantial public support make Brussels a very attractive location for ICT businesses.
◊ International organizations: due to its central geo-graphical location and unique status as the capital of Europe, Brussels is one of the world’s largest centers for international organizations, NGOs, in-dustry associations, interest groups and diplomatic missions.
For foreign investors, Brussels is the place to be to run a business with a European focus at a reasonable cost.

The Minister of Economy and Vice-President of the Walloon Government, Jean-Claude Marcourt, and his cabinet are charged with overseeing the economic and social development of Wallonia.
To the five clusters of competitiveness created under the Marshall Plan, with the goal of creating a solid economic and industrial environment (Transport and Logistics, Healthcare, Mechanical Engineering, Agro-Industry, Aeronautics and Space Industry), has been added a sixth one dedicated to the green economy.
Sustainable development is ripe with real opportuni-ties for Wallonia to enhance its economy. In light of this belief, special attention will be paid to SME’s and new technologies, which are also competencies of Minister Marcourt.
Located in the center of Europe, at the converging point of major roads, rivers, railways and air routes, Wallonia benefits from a high quality labor force and ample free spaces for the expansion of new economic activities; all advantages that Minister Marcourt, his team - in close collaboration with the Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency (AWEX) - will assert when promoting the benefits of Foreign Trade to the Region.

Belgium is a federal Kingdom comprised of three Regions (the Flemish Region, the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region) and three Communities (the Flemish, the French and the German Communities).
Belgium has a population of 11.1 million inhabitants (2013 est.) and is one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. Brussels is the ‘Capital of Europe’: it hosts the headquarters of the European Commission, the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament. Other major international organizations, such as NATO, are also locat-ed in Brussels. That is how Brussels ranks as the world’s number two city (after Washington, D.C.) in terms of the number of accredited journalists, and fourth in terms of the number of international meetings and seminars held.
With a surface of 30,500 km2, Belgium is one of the small-est member states of the European Union. Nevertheless, it is a significant player in the world economy. Belgium scores particularly well for its export-driven economy and investment attractiveness. Its small size and limited internal market are the main factors behind the strong export culture in Belgium. Moreover, due to its well-developed infrastructure, good living standards, central location and highly-skilled workforce, Belgium is also praised by foreign investors.
GDP (Gross Domestic Product) reached €375.9 billion in 2012 and an estimated €375.6 billion in 2013. Due to the continuing financial and economic crisis GDP growth was slightly negative in 2012 (-0.1%), but prospects are hope-
ful as estimates of the Economist Intelligence Unit sug-gest that the Belgian GDP will grow by 0.2% in 2013.
Despite the recent downturn, Belgium is a high income country, with an estimated GDP per capita of US$ 46,605 in 2013 (Economist Intelligence Unit).
In 2012, according to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Belgium was the 13th exporter and 13th importer of goods worldwide with a share of 2.4% and 2.3% respectively.
That same year it was also the 15th exporter and 15th im-porter of services worldwide with a share of 2.2% in both cases.
