Stewardship: the new TimeTreasureTalent If you have been a parishioner for many years here at Saint Mary’s, you remember our Ministry

Fairs and TimeTreasureTalent drives. These events offer everyone the opportunity to personally help the parish. Without the support of the members, the parish cannot operate. Some folks say, “The Church has all the money it needs. Why should I give more?” A quick look at the collection reports in the weekly bulletin shows you why you should give more! If we don’t pay our bills, we cannot open the doors. It’s that simple. So treasure is part of stewardship.

Did I say part? What else could be involved in stewardship? Let’s look at what the word actually means. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary: the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care, [as in] stewardship of natural resources.” Our Pope often talks of our Christian call to stewardship of God’s glorious creation and the people in it. In Genesis, God calls on us to “have dominion over” all of His creation. Later on, Jesus calls on us to care for each other, whether family, friend, stranger, or even enemy. That’s our duty to care for creation on a big scale. Our parish, by extension, does the good work of the parishioners. In order to do this, we must be good stewards of our parish: financially (treasure), in services (talent), and in presence (time). More on how to do this, later. It’s clear that if we are not good stewards of our natural resources, they are diminished; if we are not good stewards of our fellow people, they are damaged; if we are not good stewards of our parish, it cannot function fully.

Please prayerfully consider how you can be a good steward of our world, its people, and our parish.
