  • About The Chorus

The South Windsor Community Chorus members share a desire to provide entertainment, musical growth and education, personal challenge, creativity, and community service. The Chorus welcomes voices (with or without musical background) from South Windsor and the surrounding towns. This organization originally began in 1971 as “Friends of Music.” Bobbie Reeves (Director) and Karen Krinjak (Accompanist) volunteered their services to help raise money for band uniforms for the South Windsor High School. Today, membership ranges from 40 to 50 singers from towns throughout the region. The Chorus performs two major concerts a season, winter and spring, as well as shorter programs throughout the community. Our repertoire consists of light classical, popular show tunes, and traditional numbers. The group is sponsored in part by the Recreation Department of the Town of South Windsor, through the generosity of companies and organizations in the community, as well as by members of the chorus themselves. The Chorus awards its’ “Friends of Music” scholarship each year, to a graduating Senior of South Windsor High School, pursuing a career in music. For more information on how you can join us on our musical adventures, please call Lehman A. Mann Sr at 875-2589.

A Note from the Director .. Happy New Year! What a wonderful opportunity we have tonight to convey our love and joy for the Winter season through song! Just as our audience consists of people with varied tastes in music, our program shows a variety of styles and moods. Classic Folk music from Israel, India, and Russia filtered between a classical Mozart Requiem, a Jazzy spiritual and standard Holiday classics - new and old. So sit back and enjoy the WIntertime Glow!

From The President … “The secret in singing is found between the vibration in the singer’s voice and the throb in the hearer’s heart.” The Conductor that can extract these from the singers’ hearts and voices and compound them into one, creates that sound which is called “Music”. Everybody can sing, everybody used to sing and everybody should sing. Music throughout all of human history has been about people communicating and sharing together. The gift we, the SWCC, have here in vocal music, is more powerful than any other artistic form, because when you’re in the same room with people onstage who are working together to create something beautiful that is coming entirely from them, it’s unbelievably compelling. Our concert, “Wintertime Aglow “ will bring to you the feelings of the season, peace that a simple snowfall can bring. The solemness a single candle brings, as it fills a quiet room. The joyful sounds of families being together. I hope the sounds we bring to you tonight will find a way into your hearts and minds that you will take home to share with family and friends. Peace and Joy To All!!
