We make or prepare everything in our own wood, leather, hair, paint &metalwork shops, so we physically control every part of the production. Thisenables us to offer a very personal service & to make a horse for you that is trulyunique. We use top quality hardwoods from sustainable sources & our horses

comply with EU toy safety standards.

As well as making to commission we usually have several finished horses in ourshowroom ready for immediate collection or delivery

& will be delighted to show you round.

A new grand child is on the way ...that old rocking horse in the attic ...it’s in a sad state ... maybe we shouldget the old thing rocking again ...The wisest & best thing may be to do nothing!Especially if it is a good example of a historic horse & stillhas original paint & tack. Keep it (as a museum piece) & haveanother one, less valuable, for the children to ride.

However, sometimes a little judicious touch-up of the origi-nal paintwork, together with the replacement of perishedleather & lost hair can make your old horse presentable &safe to be ridden again.

And sometimes, if the horse is broken or has been poorlyrestored in the past & no longer has its original paintwork, afull restoration is called for: stripping old paint, repairingbroken woodwork, sympathetic re-dappling, & fitting allnew saddlery & hair.

If you email us some photographs of your old horse, with anote of its size, we shall be pleased to advise you on the bestcourse of action. We may also be able to identify the maker.

(a) Length of body measured straight along the side.This tells us the size of your horse:

If (a) is less than 18 inches (483) it is SMALLIf (a) is between 19 & 24 inches (483 & 610) it isMEDIUMIf (a) is between 25 & 29 inches (610 & 736) it is LARGEIf (a) is more than 30 inches (736mm) it is EXTRA LARGEPlease give measurement (a) even if you are only ordering

a bridle.

(b) Distance apart of metal stirrup staples.Often found each side of the saddle for stirrup leathers to

hang from.If NONE, we shall supply an alternative for hanging

stirrup leathers.(c) Length of saddle top.(d) Measurement across saddle block, side to side.

(e) Girth, measured right round horse's belly.

Pencil a mark at each side of the horse's head, slightlybelow & behind the base of the ears, as on the drawing,

The purpose of The Guild of Rocking Horse Makers isto promote & encourage the traditional craft of Making Rocking Horses.

Founded in 1999 by Anthony Dew, The Guild of Rocking Horse Makers now has around 1250 members in 15 countries.Many professional makers are members, & lots of amateur enthusiasts. Musician Joe Brown (a true rocker!) is a member& so is famous novelist & rocking horse maker Philip Pullman. People start to make rocking horses for all sorts of reasons- therapy, charity, rehabilitation, the desire to make a family heirloom, sometimes as a business or just for the sheer fun ofit. It’s always a fascinating challenge.

You are eligible to join as a Member when you have made a rocking horse. It doesn’t matter what size or type or designyou have used (& we do not judge you), but you have to have made it yourself. Members receive a specially designedCertificate of Achievement & True Craftsmanship & enamel badge of honour. There are other benefits too, including accessto the Guild’s website, invitations to Guild events, 5% discount off all RHS products & other things of interest to rockinghorse people. If you’re not a maker you can still join the Guild, as a Friend (we all need plenty of them).

Guild Members & Friends are sent a quarterly Newsletter with pictures of the horses members have made & the oftenfascinating stories behind them, news about anything related to rocking horses, forthcoming events and so on.
