DECISION-MAKING "It is the decision of the Holy Spirit, and ours too." —Acts 15:28

Two weeks from today, we will celebrate Pentecost. We will have the possibility of receiving in a new way the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, Whom the Father will send in Jesus' name (Jn 14:26). The Spirit plans to instruct us in everything and remind us of all that Jesus told us (Jn 14:26). This instructing and reminding from the Spirit, if discerned and heeded, will have such an effect on our lives that our decisions will also be the decisions of the Holy Spirit (Acts 15:28). Therefore, our decisions will be correct, life-changing, life-giving, miraculously wise, and fruitful for God's kingdom.

Some of us may have messed up our marriages, finances, employment, family life, and lifestyle by a series of bad decisions. The way out of this situation is to make good decisions by the power of the Spirit. Therefore, we must receive the Holy Spirit. We must go into the upper room of prayer, repentance, and conversion. There we will receive the Spirit, Who will change our lives, hearts, minds, and decisions.

Prayer: Father, may I be able to hear and discern what the Spirit wishes to tell me. Promise: "The city had no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb." —Rv 21:23 Praise: Alleluia! Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life! (Jn 11:25) All glory be to Him! Rescript: In accord with the Code of Canon Law, I hereby grant the Nihil Obstat ("Permission to Publish") for One Bread, One Body covering the period from April 1, 2019 through May 31, 2019. †Most Reverend Joseph R. Binzer, Auxiliary Bishop, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, November 28, 2018.

THE GIFT OF PEACE

“There arose no li le dissension and debate.” Did that happen at work this week? Most of us can recall run-ins with coworkers, even with the boss. Did it happen while socializ-ing with friends? Go easy on poli cs, religion . . . even sports. At home? Even the most peaceful household experiences a li le “give and take” now and then. So where was it that “there arose no li le dissension and debate”? That tumultu-ous conflict occurred among our first Chris an ancestors, disrup ng the community life of the early church. But to-day’s Acts of the Apostles shows how beau fully the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus in today’s Gospel, helped the church achieve a grace-filled resolu on. What evolved was that “reconciled diversity,” o en encouraged by Pope Fran-cis and even envisioned in today’s Revela on passage; and a wondrous experience of Jesus’ promised Gospel gi : “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Copyright © J.
