Produce maps, data and services needed by Wisconsin’s geospatial community (including non-professional and non-traditional users).

Specifically: Develop a statewide, mid-scale, internally-consistent, richly-attributed cartographic database for 1:500,000 mapping, including rendered maps, web services, and data layers.

Replace SCO’s current Wisconsin outline maps (PDF, image, Illustrator)

Provide a way for users to make maps with GIS

Create opportunity to develop and disseminate GIS-based cartographic methods

Assist non-traditional, non-professional users

Starting point for a statewide gazetteer that is more authoritative than GNIS

Products could include rendered maps, rendered layers/layer sets, map image tiles, Web services, raw data layers…

Multiple representation concept to link to larger- and smaller-scale datasets if developed
