Our StorySeaside Casual was built on the strength and integrity of a 100 year old company, dating back to 1911, when the Arnold Lumber Company was founded by Carold D ‘Kit’ Arnold. Kit and his son Arthur ran the family business (at first a saw mill, and later a retail establishment) with an unwavering work ethic and ingenuity, that was passed along to Arthur “Art” Arnold, Jr., the current owner of Arnold Lumber Company and Seaside Casual Furniture. Art was instrumental in the growth and expansion of Arnold Lumber Company, and it was under his leadership that Seaside Casual introduced their first piece of furniture to the community. It started as a hobby with just one Adirondack chair design made from mahogany in the Arnold Lumber Door Shop and sold outside the lumber yard. When an enterprising delivery truck driver decided to bring a few along with him on his daily route, sales went through the roof. As orders started piling up Arnold Lumber needed a dedicated space to set up manufacturing distribution. Seaside Casual Furniture was born. With a great amount of encouragement from the local community, Seaside Casual continued with designing, manufacturing and selling casual furniture from Mahogany, growing year after year.

WhyEnviroWood® from Seaside Casual is an all weather extruded lumber created from recycled bottles made with High Density PolyEthelene (HDPE) resin and provides many advantages over traditional outdoor materials. Environmental StewardsOur twelve acre 100,000 square foot facility provides the template for sound environmental stewardship. Since the purchase of our state of the art facility in 2007, we have continually strived to find areas needing improvement, and work towards making it better.

We have reduced and reclaimed thousands of tons of corrugated cardboard, wood debris and other recyclable material, previously moved into the waste stream, and have either repurposed, recycled or reduced our reliance on them. We also work on efficiencies that have already dropped our utility consumption by double digits, and we will continue to work on responsible energy conservation.

Manufacturing EnviroWood is composed of HDPE recycled plastic resin. Post-consumer milk jugs gathered from landfills are used to create the resin needed to be used as the base feedstock for our recycled plastic lumber. About 210,000,000 plastic bottles are recovered from these landfills annually to create our product.The milk jugs are compacted down into pellets, melted down while being combined with our colour choices, and then fed through a machine to create the desired sheet dimensions. In addition to the milk jugs being used, leftover or scrap material from the lumber making process is also put back in with the milk jugs to ensure zero waste of product.

Manufacturing Process EnviroWood is manufactured using Continuous Extrusion. A single stage where the liquefied HDPE plastic resin and additives are brought through a die with the desired colour they com-bine to form our signature colours. Next it is shaped in the vaccum sizing chamber, cooled in the water cooling chamber into desired shapes and sizes. This process allows for large volume production, specialized size creation, smooth consistent surfaces, and colour consis-tencies.
