power Stroke• Keep your hands in the same position.

If you prefer, adjust your bottom hand a little lower on the shaft.

• Drive your shoulder forward whilepulling with your torso and pull you’re your bottom arm slightly.

• Reach further forward with the paddle. Pull back until you reach your feet.

• Begin a new stroke. If you continue past your feet, then you are no longer creating power and actually slowing yourself down.

Quick Stroke• Begin with a big reach forward.• Drive hard with your shoulder, torso

and a little with your bottom arm similar to the power stroke.

• Pull the paddle out approximately one foot before you reach the front of your feet and start the stroke over again.

• Remain powerful but minimize your movements to quick motions.

• Focus on quick sharp hits and do not put the paddle to deep in the water.

Cruising Stroke• Stay relaxed with your hands in the

proper position.• You can drop your top hand down a

little more.• Do not reach to far ahead and release

the paddle behind your feet.• Do not pull back as hard with the

bottom hand.• Paddle smooth and easy while taking

in the scenery.

Paddle Against the Wind - Kneeling

1. 2.

3. 4.

5. 6.

Keeping balanced, transition from standing to kneeling on the center of the board with your paddle in hand.

Stabilize yourself on the board while keeping a solid grip on your paddle.

Once you feel secure, lift the paddle in both hands and prepare to stroke.

Hold the paddle vertically and grip it with both hands at the middle of the shaft.

Hold hands about a foot and a half apart. Begin to paddle by rotating sides of the board. You may have to switch sides frequently depending on the size of your boards. The smaller boards tend to switch direction more quickly.

Turn around - Slow

1. 2.

3. 4.

5. 6.

Stop paddling in the forward motion. Start to back stroke on desired side. Whichever side you back paddle on is the way your board will turn.

Take two to three strokes to maneuver your board. Looking where you want to go is key in most maneuvers.

When your 180° turn is almost complete, rotate the paddle to the opposite side and start taking normalforward motion strokes.

Continue paddling normally to your desired destination or try it again.

Turn around - Pivot Turn

1. 2.

3. 4.

5. 6.

Switch feet to the most natural side (regular/goofy) and apply pressure on the back foot.

At the same time as you apply pressure to the back foot, start paddling in a sweeping motion.

Try to do it in two to three strokes while paddling more to the outside.

Continue to pivot. You may have to stroke moreaggressively than normal to achieve your desiredposition quickly.

Take one more solid power stroke to finish off the turn. When your stroke is finished, simultaneously stepforward with your back foot.
