1.2 (i) Flexibility of the Curriculum: CBCS/Core/Elective option / Open options -

a. The Curriculum is designed by the Board of studies of various subjects as per the

guidelines of the Savitribai Phule Pune University and is implemented with meticulous

planning and is enriched with various workshops, hands on training, guest lectures, skill

development programs and industry interactions.

b. Choice Based Credit System is introduced to all the PG courses from 2013. The CBCS

also includes skill based Courses like Biosafety, Advanced Analytical Techniques etc.

c. Core / elective options / open options are applicable to UG courses in which industrial

Green Agriculture & sustainable allied agri entrepreneurship initiatives theme is

organized through Two days State level workshop on Large scale bio inoculants

production and HOTs organized related to our niche in agriculture, farming, and

cottage industry to meet rural needs besides initiating learners to rise to

entrepreneurial skills for a wide community of farmers, students, industry and

entrepreneurs.

Bridge courses, skill development programs, blending learning, constant mentoring,

career guidance, and personal counseling to motivate the students for all round

development.

Academic planner with meticulous planning, execution and discussions with students

and departments aids in smooth curriculum functioning.

National & State level Conferences, seminars, HOTs, workshops organized with

BCUD, SPPU funding with the motto of outreaching students of other colleges aided

in the skills enhancement, placements, entrepreneurship, innovation and research

aptitude.

2.8 Examination/ Evaluation Reforms initiated by the Institution (for example: Open

Book Examination, Bar Coding, Double Valuation, Photocopy and Online Multiple

Choice Questions):

Our college is affiliated college, as per the guidelines of SPPU Pune the examination

evaluation and reforms are as follows:

a) Internal Examination: Two tests based on objective and short answers were

conducted for all programs. Answer papers were evaluated by concerned teachers of

subjects. The evaluated papers were distributed to the students for verification of

marks. The copy of the mark list was displayed on notice board and another was

submitted online to University examination section.

b) University Examination: Three sets of question papers were set by the office of the

controller of examinations from a panel of paper setters of SPPU. Of the three sets

one set is randomly chosen by University and sent online to College Principal and

CEO. The college conducts examination as per the time table and rules of SPPU. The

answer sheets are sent for evaluation at central assessment program center decided by

SPPU Pune.

The answer sheets are evaluated by two examiners. After evaluation the results were

published by SPPU within 45 days from the date of examination. On demand, the

University COE office issues photocopy of revaluated answer sheets to students.

Note: First year UG evaluation is carried out at college level. The result is declared

by college and the mark lists are issued to students through software in the college.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning

processes?

a) IQAC played key role in various academic activities such as preparation of a

detailed Academic Calendar, teaching plan, organization of various conferences,

workshops, hands on trainings etc. in the beginning of academic year and

monitored its successful implementation throughout the year.

b) The evaluation blue print is planned, discussed and executed by all the departments

in the vigilance of IQAC.

c) The feedback of Teachers from students and regular guidance is sought timely and

is closely monitored by IQAC as a healthy practice for improvement and effective

teaching.

d) It encouraged many Teachers for the use of ICT facilities for effective teaching and

to ease the learning process.

e) It supported various students centric activities with innovation in curriculum of

Hands on Training programmes for Skill development, summer/ winter training

programmes, Pathshala for Spoken English, quiz competitions, elocution

competitions, poster presentations in university level, state level competitions.

3. Research, Consultancy and Extension

3.1 Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the institution:

a) IQAC and Research Committee jointly took initiative to promote filing of research

projects.

b) It promoted regular interaction with Teachers and students to encourage the active

participation of students in the same.

c) The students are motivated to participate in seminars, conferences, Avishkar research

competition organized by SPPU Pune.

d) IQAC transformed their research inputs in form of 141 publications in peer reviewed,

journals of high impact factor with citations, awards which will be helpful for

recognition as a research guide.

e) It empowered research base through DBT Star College Scheme and funding from

Young Scientist Major Research project by DST-01, Major research projects- 04, Minor

research projects-04.

f) Two students for the JRF positions under DST major research project work

independently in a well-equipped laboratory.

g) IQAC and Research Committee motivated students to undertake research projects in

renowned institutes and industries and seek careers in research.

h) IQAC gave administrative support to all teachers and research students.

i) Research committee and IQAC through the incubator center rendered expertise in

translational and need based research in collaboration with VSBT, to three international,

seventeen national companies for protocol, product, technology development, with the

departments carried out consultancy services for the community, industry and start-ups.

j) The college through N.S.S, environment awareness program carried out 53 extension

activities in the form of campaigns, cleanliness drives, health camps, day‟s celebration,

surveys, awareness programs, literacy drives.

k) IQAC & research committee efforts gave exposure to faculty as resource persons in

refresher courses, conferences of national and international repute.

entrepreneurship in organic farming, through the State Level Workshop on Large

scale Manufacturing of Bioinoculants.

N.S.S. sphered Activities:

Special winter camp (seven day duration) organized by N.S.S. at the adopted

village Katphal.

The NSS volunteers of the College involved in the Campus cleanliness drive,

celebrated different days viz. Rakhshabandhan, Gandhi Jayanti, Lal Bhadhur

Shastri Jayanti and NSS week etc. and also assisted in Medical Checkup Camp,

Hemoglobin content determination and blood grouping.

Organization of rallies, lectures, campaigns, camps, surveys and other related

programs through N.S.S., sexual harassment prevention cell, extramural

committees and departments.

Student centric programs:

Extension involves transmission of knowledge, skills and values to individuals,

groups or the community at large through self-learning, sensitization, setting

revolutionary trends to transform the society with Yuva Shakti.

„Book Reading Competition‟ to inculcate the habit of reading among the students

organized by Library committee. Marathi Department celebrated World Book

Day.

„18 hrs. Incessant reading‟ exercise was executed for students, staff and non-

collegiate members to commemorate Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, on the occasion of his

birth anniversary. This best practice has been taken cognizance by NAAC.

Departmental Activities:

The resources and intellect of the students is transformed into several activities

focusing -

Industry: Wine testing and pharmaceutical products Analysis, Deposition and

preparation of thin films for solar system, Carbon credits to industries, Solid

Waste management, Air sampling, food and milk testing analysis etc. is carried

out to extrapolate the theoretical.

Health: The health focus of the public is sensitized among students through visits,

training and Epidemiological surveys. Anemia awareness program, Swine flu

awareness program, Blood donation camp, etc. were organized successfully.

Agriculture: Vermicomposting, Remote sensing, Plant disease surveillance

through symptoms and laboratory diagnosis, Energy Sustenance through Bio-

CNG has entrusted the vision of agriculture Soil and water testing, Pesticide

residue testing, Kumbhargaon wetland Studies, Organic farming, Biodiversity

studies, Medicinal and Herbal plant Exhibition.

Social: cyber security awareness, women empowerment, environment awareness,

e-Literacy awareness, literacy drive, aerial talks, Social activities such as gender

sensitization, blind faith awareness etc. were carried out by our students.

5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services:

a) IQAC motivated needful students to file application for Earn while Learn scheme

sponsored by both SPPU and our College under student‟s welfare programme

b) It organized training for competitive examinations such as UGC-SET/NET/JRF, etc.

c) It recommended needy students for financial support from Pawar Charitable Trust those

who have not received funding from government.

d) It encouraged meritorious and reserved category students to file application for various

scholarships from government and non-government organisations.

e) IQAC has conducted environmental awareness programme to reduce the load of

pollutants in the college campus by organizing cycle rally and recommended use of

bicycle once in a month.

f) Celebrated the World River Day by cleaning the local Karha river, Baramati taluka and

created awareness amongst the students.

6.1 State the Vision and Mission of the institution:

The Vidya Pratishathan‟s Trust owes its vision to the insight of its founder, Hon. Shri.

Sharadchandraji Pawar, veteran parliamentarian and Maharashtra‟s foremost Statesman.

The Trust was founded with the paramount aim of delivering world class education to the

rural poor.

The Arts, Science and Commerce College, established in 1994 in the barren outback of

Baramati town within 20 years, the College has been transformed into a premier

destination for higher education in and around the area, thanks largely to the farsightedness

of the founder, the astuteness of the management council and the loyalty and hard work of

the staff.

With the aim of providing quality education to the children of the farmers and laborers of

the region, to give them the self-confidence and dignity that only education can give to a

6.3.1 Curriculum Development -

The Academic programmes of the institution are consistent with its goals and

objectives.

Feedback from academic peers and employers is used in the initiation, review and

redesign of programmes.

As per guidelines of SPPU, the curriculum designed is implemented by the college.

The institution has a wide range of programme offerings through STAR College that

provide an adequate academic flexibility.

It supports professional, quasi-professional, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary

programmes and follows Choice-Based Credit System and Cafeteria Curricula

approach.

6.3.2 Teaching and Learning-

The institution facilitates the ICT in the spheres of the teaching-learning programmes.

The institution has a well-conceived plan for instructional approach in teaching,

monitoring student progress continuously through formal and informal assessments.

The student assessment procedures and systems are reliable and valid as per SPPU

guidelines.

The institution has an effective mechanism to recruit qualified and adequate faculty

as per UGC and State Government norms.

NPTEL lectures, Software, Tools, notes, online resources, Virtual Labs, Teaching

Manuals, Ready references, SOPs of instruments etc.

6.3.3 Examination and Evaluation -

Our college is affiliated college, as per the guidelines of SPPU Pune the examination

evaluation procedure is as follows:

a) Internal Examination: Two tests based on objective and short answers were

conducted for all programs. Answer papers were evaluated by concerned subject

teachers. The evaluated papers were distributed to the students for verification of

marks.

b) University Examination: Three sets of question papers were set by the office of

the controller of examinations from a panel of paper setters of SPPU. Of the three

sets one set is randomly chosen by University and sent online to College Principal

and CEO. The college conducts examination as per the time table and rules of

SPPU. The answer sheets are sent to evaluation to central assessment program

center decided by SPPU Pune. The answer sheets are evaluated by examiner and

moderator. After evaluation the results are published by SPPU within 45 days from

the date of examination. On demand, the University COE office issues photocopy

of revaluated answer sheets to students.

6.3.4 Research and Development –

The institution promoted research culture among faculty to file applications to

various funding agencies for Minor and Major Research projects and students.

The institution encouraged faculty to publish Research articles/ Research Papers/

Books and chapters.

The institution is responsive to community needs and conducts relevant extension

programmes.

Research Advisory Committee streamlined various innovative research activities for

students through DBT Star Program.

6.3.5 Library, ICT and physical infrastructure / instrumentation

The institution has state-of-the-art adequate physical facilities to run the educational

programmes efficiently.

The growth of the infrastructure keeps pace with the academic growth of the

institution.

The institution has effective mechanism for maintenance and optimal use of

infrastructure as per directives of management of Vidya Pratishthan.

The institution has adequate library and computer facilities and other learning

resources with easy access for all its constituencies. A total of 1043 Text books, 368

reference books, 220 CDs and Video copies are added to the existing list of books in

the Library during this academic year.

The college has subscribed N-LIST facility of INFLIBNET through which e-

journals and e-books are made available to the faculty members, researchers and PG

students, the college library provides Web-OPAC based book searching.

The College purchased eight computers and three laptops as per requirements.

The Cell conducts academic summits with Industries which has helped in mobilizing

student Placements and knowledge/ Skills essential in an Industry.

Technologies, Sungare Technologies, Tej IT solutions, feelsoft Solutions, Konsep

Works, Dreams ultimate solutions, Microcare computers, SEED IT Idol,

Syngenta Biosciences, Goa, Solar Energy Project, Shirsuphal, Mapro Foods,

Ballarpur Industries Pvt. Ltd, Bhigwan.

Industrial safety program under skill development credit is conducted for

Microbiology and Biotechnology PG students. For Computer Science and

Chemistry PG students Robotics and Chromatographic techniques are conducted

respectively.

Reforms?

The Examination section of SPPU, Pune has set an adaptive technology to facilitate easy

interface for exchange of information between college and University. The details are as

follows-

The University sends online timetables and important circulars related to

examinations on College Link.

The students are asked to fill the Exam forms online. The college office inwards the

examination forms to University.

The University sends soft copy of Hall tickets to college, the printed hall tickets after

verification and duly signed by Principal are handed over to students.

Paper-setters, examiners and moderators are appointed without prejudice by

University authorities.

The University sends online Question Papers to minimize malpractices.

The papers are assessed at Central Assessment Program (CAP) Centre allotted by

SPPU, Pune.

The PTA meetings are organized half yearly and the association aided in –

Extended Lecture Series for competitive examinations

Robust Placement Drive.

Remedial Teaching for slow learners.

Boosting of Enthusiasm for Participation of students in co-curricular and

6.13 Development programmes for support staff:

Training and Orientation programmes are conducted to achieve excellence in

administration.

Staff Quarters availed to support staff within the campus.

The trust has provided Community centre to the support staff and students which

includes various facilities such as Stationary, Laundry, Xerox, Bank, snacks etc.

Admissions to the wards of support staff are given on priority basis.

Free Gymnasium facility is given to the support staff.

Waste water is recycled and used for gardening purpose within the campus

Solar water heaters provide 24 hours hot water to hostel students

Nakshatra Udyan is spread across 24 acres with horticultural and medicinal plants

which is the best place for morning walk, jogging and Yoga practice.

Solid waste management through vermicomposting.

Bio CNG for the laboratory utilization.

State- of- art Green campus promoting healthy living.

The campus harbours Bird Nests from a local NGO.

7. Innovations and Best Practices

7.1 Innovations introduced during this academic year which have created a positive

impact on the functioning of the institution. Give details.

The benchmarking for innovative and best practices through identification,

sustainability, dissemination and adaptation is visioned, executed and assessed by

IQAC.

The activities centered on rural community with active participation of students to

achieve the communal goal of the organization and to strengthen the societal- College

interface.

Clean Campus Drive: The solid waste from canteens, mess and leaf litter fallen in the

campus is turned to fertile manure through vermicomposting continuously upgraded by

student‟s projects and the produce is used for gardening and even for self-sustainability.

Waste water and sewage are processed by the Sewage treatment plant. The treated water is

used for campus plantation. Reduce, recycle and reuse is the policy of the organization to

save the ecosystem.

Clean River Drive: The world River day was celebrated by cleaning the banks of river

Karha in Baramati to create awareness amongst the public by the students of

Biotechnology.

Green Drive: Tree plantation and exhibition of medicinal, aromatic and economically

important plants organized in the premises and at Lonavala in collaboration with Rotary

Club of Baramati in District Conference sensitized the public, staff and students for saving

the planet by green initiatives.

Health Drive: Health consciousness is stimulated through Determining Body Mass Index

(BMI), Blood group checking and Haemoglobin testing helped in improving the nutritional

status, rare blood group & donor data and anaemia prevalence among the students alerting

for expert consultancy & treatment.

Green Agriculture & sustainable allied agri entrepreneurship initiative:

a. Sustainable agriculture through organic farming is the motto of the rural agronomy, the

prima foci, aiming at the advocacy of the farmer community. The college with the

advantage of its geographical location for the community service always has been

instrumental in catalyzing activities for promotion of green moves. Two days State

Level Workshop, Certificate courses on large scale production of bio inoculants with

the enthusiastic participation of industry, farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and

students highlighted the necessity of such activities regularly. The workshop executed

through industry Expo, field-visits, hands – on training, panel discussion with experts,

product exhibition invoked the theme of the public advocacy of sustainable agriculture.

b. Agri entrepreneurship activities:

i. HOTs are organized related to our niche in agriculture, farming, and cottage

industry to meet rural needs besides initiating learners to rise to entrepreneurial

skills. “Entrepreneurship in fish farming” a one day workshop in collaboration with

Marine Biology Research Station, Dapoli with experts Dr. Chavan, Mr. N. D.

Chougule, Mr. Sachin Satam with active participation of farmers, students, and

industry highlighted the scope of entrepreneurship with scientific indulgence in

aquaculture.

ii. Workshops on scientific bee keeping, vermicomposting, bioinoculant production

complimented with student research projects to meet the research end of these

subjects is executed through environmental awareness, curricular and star college

projects.

iii. Certificate courses on bioinoculant Production, Solid waste management,

Entrepreneurship in fish farming, Scientific Bee keeping with participation from all

over the state extends theoretical to practical to the society.

iv. Skill empowerment programs to the students on advanced technologies like Virus

inoculation and cultivation at the Virology BSL II laboratory facility to acquaint

with the unseen, challenging and advanced arenas of learning.

7.3 Give two Best Practices of the institution:

I) Green Agriculture & sustainable allied agri entrepreneurship initiative:

industry, farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, housewives highlighted the

necessity of such activities regularly. The workshop executed through industry Expo,

field-visits, hands – on training, panel discussion with experts, poster presentation,

and theme based cartoon display, and product exhibition invoked the theme of the

public advocacy of the sustainable agriculture.

b. Agri entrepreneurship activities:

i) HOTs organized related to our niche in agriculture, farming, and cottage industry

to meet rural needs besides initiating learners to rise to entrepreneurial skills.

“Entrepreneurship in fish farming” a one day workshop in collaboration with

Marine Biology Research Station, Dapoli under star college programs with experts

Dr. Chavan, Mr. N. D. Chougule, Mr. Sachin Satam involving active participation

of 108 farmers, students, industry highlighted the scope of entrepreneurship with

scientific indulgence in aquaculture.

ii) Workshops under star college program in scientific bee keeping, vermicomposting,

bioinoculant production supplemented with student projects to meet the research

end of the subjects executed under environmental awareness emphasized our

march towards organic and sustainable agriculture with cutting edge of

entrepreneurship as the commercial output of the events.

iii) These activities of creativity, innovation, social responsibility imparted through

State level, university level, local level programs catalyzed through efforts of

enthusiastic, self-driven faculty, outreach industry, academically spirited institutes

with participation from all over the state extends the theorticals to practicals

reaching the society.

iv) Skill development programs: Rise in the demand for virologists due to the

upcoming viral epidemics initiated in organization of skill development trainings

under star college program on Virus inoculation and cultivation at the Virology BSL II

Facility to the P.G. students to acquaint with the unseen, challenging and advanced arenas

of learning.

v) Intervention of heritage of Biodiversity , Green awareness with Scientific

knowledge:

a. International collaboration: The two days Exhibition is outsourced and

mobilized with our skills and scientific attributes on Medicinal, Aromatic and

plants of Economic importance on 9th

and 10th

January 2016 at Lonavala Dist.

Pune in collaboration with Rotary Club of Baramati in District Conference of

Rotary Club District 3131. 2500 beneficiaries are noteworthy for it.

b. National Level: Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of

higher education, New Delhi funded National Seminar on „Environmental and

Biological terminology in regional language- Marathi‟. Our efforts created a

platform to findings of researchers and teachers at national level with 142

participants to share their expertise and contributed in translating the

terminologies in regional languages with respect to Environment and Biology.

c. Green Awareness: The three days Exhibition of Medicinal plants and plants of

Economic importance, Flower arrangement and Fruit Carving Competition

organized on 26th

to 29th

January 2016, on the occasion of Republic Day to

promote the creativity, conservation of nature and its significance in human life.

7.4 Contribution to environmental awareness / protection.

Workshops, trainings, certificate courses to promote sustainable agriculture & allied

areas through green moves.

College organized Green and Clean Campus drive, clean river drive.

Renewable technologies like Solid waste Management through vermicomposting and

biogas generation.

Wild life week was celebrated by displaying posters of plants, animals, microbes and

environmental issues to create environmental awareness among the students.

Exhibition of aromatic, medicinal and economically important plants was organised by

Botany Department to create awareness about importance of biodiversity and its

conservation.

NSS volunteers planted saplings, removed plastic and other garbage from the adopted

village (Katphal) during NSS camp.

Recycling of waste water and its reuse in 10 hectares of Nakshatra Udyan and campus.

Second Year students of B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. carried out surveys and projects on

Environmental Science to create Environmental awareness.

Visits to Biodiversity heritage areas like Dapoli, Kaas plateau to bring awareness

amongst students on conservation of biodiversity.

Strengths:

Ultra-modern infrastructure supportive to offer quality education in basic and applied

fields catering to the needs of rural students.

Regular organization of institution level intensive orientation programs, seminars and

workshops on teaching methodologies, use of ICT in teaching-learning, research

methodologies, new administrative strategies etc.

Central Library enriched with good number of text and reference books, periodicals,

journals and Inflibnet e-resources, library computerization, bar coding, on-line

resources, CD ROM database.

Maximum number of students and staff participated in various research and extension

activities.

Accommodation for more than 1200 girls and boys in hostels with Wi Fi facility, solar

water heaters etc.

Weaknesses:

Student and teacher ratio is inadequate to fulfil the targets.

Limitations on infrastructure due to increasing student strength.

No autonomy and flexibility in curriculum, policies and evaluation system.

Opportunities:

To become a reputed research centre which will promote research addressing to local,

social and need based issues.

To maintain the present status and establish a brand name of college which is giving

quality education in rural area.

To increase the collaborations and linkages with various institutes and industries to

strengthen the placements and increase the student enrolment for trainings and research

careers.

To attract students from outside the state and across the country.

To increase the enrolment ratio as per the demand from the parents and students.

To increase the male students admissions for professional courses to meet the demand

from the industry sector.
