HUME VALLEY SCHOOL
To all the wonderful Mothers, Carers,
Grandmothers, Aunts, Sisters and
of Hume Valley School,
Thank you, for all you do for our amazing students.
We would like to extend our utmost respect and appreciation towards all of you. ..This day is a time to acknowledge the wonderful contributions and sacrifices you make on a daily basis in caring for and supporting your child.
We use this day to remember and celebrate the importance and significance of all motherly figures and the roles that they play.
We wish that we could be celebrating with you at school this year, but unfortunately with the current situation, we will admire you from afar.
Please enjoy our Mother’s Day resource pack, lovingly put together by the teaching staff at Hume Valley School.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Warmest regards
The staff of Hume Valley School

Mother’s Day Activities
We know that Mother’s Day will be different for us all this year, so we thought that we could make some suggestions of what activities could be done on this day.
Activity 1: Baking TogetherPatty Cakes
Ingredients
200 grams of unsalted better
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1 cup of caster sugar
3 eggs
2 ½ cups of self-raising flower, sifted
½ cup of milk
Method:
1. Place patty cake containers into 2 trays of 12 holes.2. Preheat the oven to 180oC3. Place butter, vanilla essence and sugar into a bowl. Use an electric beater to
mix the ingredients until pale and creamy.4. Add 1 egg to the mixture at a time, beating the mixture after each egg. 5. Add ½ the flour and ½ the milk and stir the mixture. Then place the rest of the
flour and milk and stir the mixture again.6. Fill your patty cake cups to 1/3 or 2 level tablespoons7. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes8. Stand cakes in the pans for 2 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack.
Chocolate cake
Ingredients:
270g (1 1/3 cups, firmly packed) brown sugar
185ml (3/4 cup) milk
125g butter, cubed
50g (1/2 cup) cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
150g (1 cup) self-raising flour
2 tablespoons plain flour
3 eggs, lightly whisked
Method
1. Preheat oven to 160°C. Brush a deep, square, 19cm (base measurement) cake pan (see tip below) with the melted butter to lightly grease. Line the base and sides of the pan with non-stick baking paper.
2. Place the sugar, milk and butter in a large saucepan. Use a fine sieve to sift the cocoa and bicarbonate of soda over the mixture. Place the pan over medium-low heat and use a whisk to stir until the mixture is smooth (don't boil the mixture). (See microwave tip.) Remove the pan from the heat and set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
3. Use a sieve to sift half of each the self-raising and plain flours into the pan. Use the whisk to stir until the mixture is smooth. Repeat with the remaining flours. Add the eggs and continue to stir until well combined.
4. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan and gently tap the pan on a bench to release any large air bubbles. Bake in preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean. Set aside for 2 minutes before turning onto a wire rack. Set aside for 1 3/4 hours or until completely cool.https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/quick-mix-chocolate-cake-2/555a57b7-fd53-4b42-83df-a3250b840618

One thing for sure is that the benefits of dancing are endless.
