State of Shine6 March - 12 June 2021

When we think of Queensland, we think warm weather, beaches and blue skies. But as we know, Queensland is much, much more. It is a place of contrasts and extremes, and a state of mind.

The Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia (Queensland Chapter) have set out to capture what it means to work and live in the Sunshine State. Drawing inspiration from its history, people and landscape, these artisans capture the essence of Queensland.

State of Shine exhibition was first developed by the Jewellers and Metalsmith Guild of Australia, Queensland Chapter for Radiant Pavilion. This iteration is developed in partnership with Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Oceans from here 12 December 2020 - 27 February 2021

Oceans from here is an exhibition of contemporary photography exploring the aesthetics of water from mountain glaciers to the open seas. Exhibiting artists have responded to water as a vital element, which flows through the land to the seas and fills the atmosphere of our planet. Several of the works reinforce notions of an Australian identity so closely tied to the oceans that surround this nation island. While others immerse the viewer in a metaphorical ocean that surrounds, defines and moves through us all.

Plant-blind: We only see things that look like us22 May - 14 August 2021

Plant-blindness is a term used to refers to people’s inability to see or identify the trees and shrubs that surround them. It is a phenomenon that is becoming more common as greater numbers of people live in urban areas and disengage from the natural environment.

Redcliffe-based artist collective, Carte Blanche, have reconnected with nature, drawing attention to the diversity of trees that are found in the Moreton Bay Region. Through collaborative and individual works these artists reflect upon the importance of the natural environment, and how it connects us all.

Roast, ragu or raita? A tasty exhibition about how we cook, eat and think about food.

Explore the evolution of Australian food culture that reflects the everchanging diversity of our society and the people who call Australia home. Goodnight, sleep tight10 February - 9 May 2021

Soft mattress or firm? Flannelette or Egyptian cotton? Hitting the snooze button or awake with the birds? Sleep is something we all do - and we all do it differently.

Today a good night sleep is a solid eight hours of sleep on a comfy mattress, but how did people sleep in the past? Why did people in Medieval society have two sleeps a night and how did people sleep before all the modern comforts we have today?

From sleepwear to chamber pots, nightcaps to coconut mattresses, discover the history of sleep, how we sleep today and how people might sleep in the future.

Capturing Nature: Early photography at the Australian Museum 1857–189314 May - 22 August 2021

In Capturing Nature, we travel back to a time when photography was revolutionising science, art and society. These never-before-seen images dating from 1857 to 1893 have been printed from the Australian Museum’s collection of glass plate negatives and are some of Australia’s earliest natural history photographs. Sitting at the nexus of science and art, they tell both the story of pioneering research as well as the advent of photography in the young colony less than 20 years after the birth of photography in Europe.

We love to put our heritage collection in the spotlight! Forever-changing displays bring hidden gems out from the collection vault - you never know what you will see next.

Queensland is a testing ground for many Australian First Nations artists. It is a place of experimentation and interrogation where artists share their own stories in their own words.

With a focus on First Nations artists living in or from Queensland, this exhibition features works from the Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection and examines ideas surrounding sovereignty, the continuing impacts of colonisation and connections to place.

Bribie - your stories, our stories 21 May - 8 August 2021

We are turning our museum over to you. Bribie - your stories, our stories is a place to share, learn and laugh about all that we know and love about this place.

We are on a quest to capture the richness of Bribie life from those who know it best - you! We want not only the extraordinary but also the ordinary and everyday stories. Your recollections, anecdotes and memoires - large and small - will be added to the museum record to be shared for generations to come.

Exhibition developed by Moreton Bay Regional Council.Bribie Island jetty at sunset, August 2012, Don McEwen.

Our newest continuing exhibition Going Away captures the beginnings of our beloved Bribie as a tourist destination, taking its design inspiration from the ‘Twelve Apostles’- colourful weatherboard holiday huts which once lined the foreshore at Bongaree. The exhibition tells the stories of holidays spent on Bribie; what people did for fun, where they stayed and why Bribie was and continues to be a popular holiday spot.
