Master of Education (MEd): Counselling & Psychotherapy

• Professional, non-thesis degree • Available full-time and part-time • Average length: 2 years full-time; 3-4 years part-

time • 10 half-courses • Minimum 250 practicum hours • Basic preparation for certification with the CCPA • No guaranteed funding package

Admission Requirements: • Four year undergraduate degree

equivalent in any area • GPA equivalent to a University of Toronto

B+ or better in last year • At least one year of relevant experience

MEd: What is Relevant Experience?

• Proof that you have had a substantial amount of exposure to counselling others prior to this degree, whether through work or volunteer experience

• Community work: advising, counselling, providing social support, or generally working with vulnerable people

• Strong preference to experienced teachers • Basic preparation for certification with CCPA • Degree credited towards Parts I and II of the

Ontario College of Teacher’s Specialist Certificate in Guidance

Doctor of Education (EdD): Counselling & Psychotherapy

• Advanced counsellor training; consideration of the role of counsellor in educational system

• Graduates can take leadership positions in the field of educational counselling

• Available part-time and full-time • Completion and defense of thesis • Eight half-courses • 500 practicum hours, 500 internship hours • No guaranteed funding package

EdD Counselling & Psychotherapy: Admission Requirements

• M.A. or M.Ed. Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto, or its equivalent

• GPA of University of Toronto B+ or better

• Successful professional experience (at least 3-4 years) as a counsellor in an educational setting or in a related position

• If non-thesis Master’s degree: Completion of a Qualifying Research Paper
