The exhibition held over a five-day period is the Graduation Show for the FdA Professional Photography course at City of Bristol College. The exhibition showcases new, upcoming work and invites you to engage with the exciting new talent of Bristol’s contemporary photographers. All of the students come from diverse artistic backgrounds and invite you to share the world in the way in which they see it through a camera. All of the students have various interests within the photographic medium, therefore the show will explore diverse genres and styles. The FdA Photo students of City of Bristol College would like to say a huge thank you to Photographique, the Higher Education Centre at City of Bristol College and The Bristol Beer Factory and for funding and supporting the show in the various ways they have chosen to do so. Most of all, the biggest thanks has to go to our senior lecturers Chris Rydlewski and Gina Lundy for all their hard work in teaching, advising, supporting and challenging us to better ourselves within the medium of Photography for the past two years.

My passions in life are photography and sports. With my current work I’m trying to find a way to combine the two aspects using portrait work as well as pushing the traditional boundaries. I have also recently started working as a professional freelance photographer with future jobs in the works.

In the next few months I want to be set up with regular paid photography work. I will be able to develop as a photographer and spend my free time building my sports photography portfolio. My future ambition centres around working as an action sports photographer, traveling the world and documenting amazing feats of sporting skill.ut their faith in me as I offer images of the highest

I am currently studying my BA(Hons) degree in professional photography; I am aiming to become a freelance photographer once I graduate. The work being shown in the exhibition is a sample of my beauty photography. I love attention to detail and I am definitely a perfectionist, therefore choosing these prints and editing them were not easy. I wanted to explore how close and detailed I could get this set of photographs. Printing the photos using a large print allows the viewer to appreciate every detail within the photographs. I am really inspired by fashion, beauty and art photography and feel many people can appreciate the comparison between reality and make believe.

Photography is a top hobby and an interest of mine. However food photography is the one specific genre that I prefer and specialise in, as I feel more comfortable and in my element while doing it, it is where I produce my best work. I enjoy taking photos of different and exciting foods where I can make it look delicious and pleasing to look at, with good compositions and captivating viewpoints and angles. On the plus side I get to combine two of my favourite things, photography and foOD. my goal of

working as a professional.

Before beginning this FdA Photography course, I didn’t know if I even wanted to be a photographer. My reason for joining the course was an excuse for me to not grow up just yet; I wasn’t ready to enter the world of work. Throughout the course I experimented with different types of photography: Still life, portraiture, film photography and worked with many different cameras I didn’t even know existed. I also had the opportunity to take photographs in a studio, on location and outside, all things I didn’t have much experience in at all. After this course I intend on attending Plymouth University to complete my degree in photography, so that I can pursue a career in portrait photography.

The past two years has given me the opportunity to explore multiple genres, the different mediums within photography, improving upon technical skills, as well as challenging myself creatively. When starting my Foundation degree, the main outcome that I wanted from the two years study, was that I would leave the course having gained a better understanding of what genre within photography I want to specialise in. Upon finishing this course, I have chosen to continue on to the University of Plymouth to study the top up year for Professional Photography. standard and I am achieving my goal of working as a professional.

Primesight (in progress) aims to reveal a bleak truth through empty billboards. The photograph displayed was the first billboard ( 1st wave of digital photos) that inspired me to pursue in creating a typology. I’m currently in the position of continuing Primesight in analog format.

A love of the outdoors and photography has led me to ongoing exploration within nature and wildlife photography. I enjoy the search for an interesting subject and the unpredictable, varying nature of the genres. I find through photography I am able look more closely at the apparently mundane and find something of delicacy in unlikely situations.

In my work I tend to use largely natural lighting, as I feel that often natural lighting can help to give my images a sense of the environment in which they have been captured. goal of working as a professional.

My work has always been portrait based but is never concerned with revealing the truth of its subject. Rather, the model adopts a visual persona and takes part in a recorded performance which attempts to validate or subvert the themes explored. My influences are rooted in popular culture, where I am particularly inspired by the worlds of fashion and cinema. Both act as a strong influence in my aesthetic tastes and decisions as a photographer. On completing the course I will begin production on a new body of work that intends to use both photography and video installations. I plan to exhibit this work during the summer of 2013.

I am Louise Amy Stroud. My love, passion and drive lie within Art Direction. I like to think of myself as a one-man band. Everything you see in my images I do myself - the styling, make-up, hair, props and set design - as well as the final photography. I believe that no challenge is too great - if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it. Only sheer determination, hard work, and persistence have got me to the point I am at today.I am currently looking and applying for internships or work placements for the summer of 2012, after which I will focus on my BA(Hons) degree course, continuing to educate myself to be the best in what I do. As our audience, I wish you the warmest welcome to our final show, and hope you enjoy the work I am exhibiting today.

Writing an artist’s statement as a photographer can be difficult as it is usually our work that ‘does the talking’. A quick browse through my portfolio will demonstrate my wide interest in different photographic fields. Many photographers have an expertise in one or two genres, whereas I like to develop and experiment throughout many different genres that I have an interest in. Whatever style of photography I carry out, I always pay close attention to composition above most other things as I look to create an image that is aesthetically pleasing as well as intriguing to the viewer.

The main area of photography I work in is music photography. Mainly working in the alternative music scene in the southwest. I shoot all styles of photography within the genre including live photographs, documentary photographs and video, portraits and promotional photographs.

For my body of work I have looked at tattoos in alternative culture; fundamentally I wanted to explore how tattoos relate to fashion and music in today’s society, and demonstrate how alternative culture has grown in popularity over recent years, and the relationship between these mediums ( music, tattoos and fashion). My collection contains portraits and documentary photographs shot on medium format colour film using Mamiya cameras. After I finish the FDA course at city of Bristol college I will be continuing my photography at Plymouth college of art where I hope to carry on my work on both portrait and documentary photography and achieve a BA in Photography.

It took me a while to find something I was truly interested in doing as a career, until I stumbled into fashion photography. For me the strength and emotion behind a pose a model performs can really draw a viewers eye to the image and therefore sell a product. From then on my goal was to do it as a professional career and push myself as a photographer in terms of professionalism and technique. I strive to capture emotion in my images, just as those feelings that inspired me to take up photography from the beginning. Clients put their faith in me as I offer images of the highest standard and I am achieving my goal of working as a professional.

The photographs shown are a small fragment of a larger body of work that records my personal response to the streets of Bedminster and the activities that occur within. By capturing fleeting moments and the characters that inhabit the streets I have painted a visual picture that autobiographically records my experiences and has become an exercise in understanding my surroundings.

As a photographer I am interested in documenting the life I observe around me, giving the viewer a chance to reflect upon small moments in time.

My latest project documents the areas in and around Severn Beach. Originally dubbed ‘The Blackpool of the West’, the once popular beach resort has been in steady decline since it’s heyday in the 1930s. The photographs show the juxtaposition of old and new. They invite the viewer to explore the area, looking closely at how it has changed over time. The photographs I have chosen to exhibit help the viewer to see the subtle and often overlooked magic of this very eccentric old village.

My name is Douglas Hook and my focus for future employment and education is to become a documentary photographer/photojournalist. After this course I will be moving on to complete a documentary photography BA (hons) at the University of Gloucester in Cheltenham. My chosen equipment for shooting this work was with a medium format camera as I think it captures the moments in more detail and has a certain quality about the look of the photograph as an end result.

I have always been fascinated by people, and love to watch and study both their physicality and expressions. Through my photography I am able to channel this fascination, and combine it with my love of shape and form. This body of work was inspired by my love of ballet. I undertook a number of shoots to explore the multiple facets of ballet, and was particularly captivated by the ballerina’s preparations. This series of portraits emanates the grace, beauty and form inherent found within this aspect of ballet. My aims beyond the course are to continue to improve as a wedding and portrait photographer, and to build up my business. I also intend to begin a long term photographic project focusing on the elderly later this year.
