Bridge Building Project
Objective:
Construct a working drawbridge according to customer specifications within set time limits
An opportunity to collaborate to achieve a goal
Bridge Building ProjectObjective: Construct a working drawbridge according to customer specifications within set time limits
Teams will consist of the following: Release Manager – Project leader
Development Team - Plan and design the solution based on requirements given the information, materials, and time provided
Implementation Team – Test the solution to ensure it meets all requirements (QA) and put the solution into production (Operations)
Bridge Building ProjectThe Development team will plan and build a solution to meet business requirements and deliver the solution with appropriate documentation to the Implementation team.
Phase Who Time limit OutputI. Planning Development Team (8 minutes) Design planII. Construction Development Team (25 minutes) Build solution & documentIII. Testing Implementation Team (5 minutes) Test resultsIV. Production Implementation Team (2 minutes) Proof of solution
Notes:The Implementation team will not participate in Phase I.Phases II and III may be iterative and overlap at the discretion of the Release Manager. The Implementation team cannot participate in construction but can provide feedback. After 38 minutes Phase IV will begin and solutions will be observed with a Pass or Fail outcome.
Materials and instructions will be provided to each project team. As in a typical project, time limits will be strictly enforced.
Bridge Building ProjectBridge specifications:
1) The span of the drawbridge section must exceed the width of the ‘moat’
2) The ramp leading to the drawbridge must be at least 7 inches long and the angle of the ramp (incline) must be no greater than 45 degrees (ratio of 1 to 1, height to length)
3) The width of the ramp leading to the drawbridge must be at least 2.75 inches
4) The drawbridge must be capable of being raised and lowered smoothly within 15 seconds (The Development team is to provide written instructions to the Implementation team in Phase II)
5) The span of the drawbridge must be capable of supporting the weight of 2 cell phones Note: Only the materials provided can be used in bridge construction
There are 3 structures to be engineered and built: 1) castle wall 2) drawbridge 3) ramp to the drawbridge
Special recognition can be earned by meeting specifications with an artistic and/or elegant design or by building a ramp that can support the weight of at least one cell phone.
Timing for phases will be kept centrally, but teams should maintain awareness of how much time is left in each phase internally (by the Release Manager).
Bridge Building Project
We are now in Phase IThe design of the 3 structures must occur during this phase.
Phase Who Time limit Output
I. Planning Development Team (8 minutes) Design plan
II. Construction Development Team (25 minutes) Build solution & document
III. Testing Implementation Team (5 minutes) Test results
IV. Production Implementation Team (2 minutes) Proof of solution
The Implementation team will not participate in this phase in any way.
Bridge Building Project
We are now in Phase II (& III if deemed appropriate by Release Manager)
