The next Baptism Preparation class will meet Monday,

Christian parents. Please call the Rectory at 630-834-6700 to register or for more information.

News from the P.I.T. – Priest in Training One of the classic arguments I’ve heard from people

who have stopped going to Church is, “I was just not get-ting anything out of Mass, so I stopped going.” They usu-ally go on to explain maybe a particular reason: the music, bad preaching, being bored, etc. (I’m sure you can add a few things to the list). Now, I understand that good music, good preaching, being excited/entertained etc. can contrib-ute to Mass, but we must understand even without those things the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of our Lord, is present! The Holy Spirit is still moving and acting within the Mass! So the question needs to be asked, why are we not being moved?

For those experienced sailors out there: what happens when you’re in a sail boat, the wind is blowing, but you don’t put up your sails? You don’t go anywhere. You just drift and get pounded by the waves created by the wind. But what would happen if in that same scenario, instead of sitting on the boat, you would make the effort to put up your sails? There would be a different and tremendous re-sult! You would be moving along the water. What made the difference? In both cases, you are in the sail boat and the wind is blowing, the difference is your effort!

So my response to those who have stopped attending Mass and have complained about Church, the answer to your problem is not to change various aspects of the Mass (though I hope to always work on my preaching, provide good music, etc.), but the answer needs to be in your own preparation and effort! The question needs to be asked, how have you prepare to receive the Holy Spirit and our Lord? Did you look at the readings for Mass? Did you even pay attention to the Word of God during Mass? Did you join the cantor/choir in singing? Did you offer your-self, along with the Lord and the priest, in the Sacrifice of the Mass? What was your Mass intention, who were you praying for? When we start answering those questions, when we make the effort to participate in the Mass, we might be surprised how much more the Holy Spirit, who is always there, will move us!

FAITH FORMATION

Page 5

The “Chorus” of Excuses I Know I have talent and love music but I HAVE A

PROBLEM JOINING VISITATION CHOIR BECAUSE… 1. I can’t read music 2. I don’t have any Choir experience 3. I can’t make a commitment for the whole year 4. I am hurting because I don’t agree/like/understand the

Church’s position on ___. I’m not sure I want to get involved.

5. Only people that are mostly old/young/women/men are in Choir and it’s not a place I would feel comfortable.

6. I don’t think I would look good in a Choir Robe. 7. I don’t like the style of music. 8. I have allergies 9. It’s already May and Choir is almost over for

the year. 10. I don’t know anyone in Choir. If you know Barb, you know she will try to answer all

your questions and meet you where you are. Maybe in your audition and interview it will be that Choir isn’t right for you at this time. But on the other hand, maybe you are so gifted that there will be something you can do right away and during the summer! Whatever your personal situation, Barb will make you glad you called. Call 630-834-8190 or email [email protected] right away before you let the opportunity for service to your Parish as well as personal physical, mental and spiritual growth pass you by. It may be too late to join for this year but Choir will be starting again in September and we want to plan to include you! Let us put you on our radar!

MINISTRIES

TOTUS TUUS Coming to Visitation July 23-28!

Totus Tuus is a diocesan-sponsored summer faith camp (like vacation Bible school). Teams of four college students (two male and two female) travel to various par-ishes of the diocese proclaiming the Gospel to children and teens through catechetical instruction, Mass, games, fun and more!

Children Entering Grades 1‒6 Monday – Friday, July 24-28, 9:00 !.". ‒ 2:30 #.". Cost: $25 (Family Rate: $70 for 3 or more kids) Children must bring a bagged lunch and drink daily. Teens Entering Grades 7-12 Sunday – Thursday, July 23-27, 7:00 ‒ 9:00 #.". Cost: $10 per teen To register please contact Matt Pozen at:

[email protected] or (630) 279‒7058 x 502.

HELP NEEDED hosting the Totus Tuus team! We need one family to host the two girls on the Totus

Tuus team, and another family to host the two boys. This would involve providing a room with two beds, use of a bathroom, and having breakfast available each morning before the team members head to the parish for the day.

We also need some families to provide lunch or dinner for the team during the six days that they are here at Visitation. Lunch (12:00‒1:00 #.".) needs to be brought to the Parish Center. For dinner (5:15‒6:30 #.".), families may bring the food to the Parish Center and join the team there, they may host them at their home, or they may take the team out to a restaurant.

This is a great way to support the Totus Tuus program and these young men and women in their journey of faith. The team members love meeting families from the parish!

Please contact Matt Pozen if you can help.

Casserole Ministry Update Visitation Parish’s Casserole Ministry is a year-round

program that helps feed the hungry. Our parishioner volun-teers are given a recipe and casserole tin in order to prepare casseroles in their homes. The baked casseroles are re-turned to the church two weeks later and are delivered to a Chicago soup kitchen and Fenton High School, where half of the families qualify for food assistance.

Here is the schedule for the distribution and collection of casserole tins for the next few months:

Tin Distribution Casserole Collection June 10−11 June 24−25 July 8−9 July 22−23

Thanks again for helping feed those in need. Thanks to your generosity we have been delivering 60-70 casseroles each month! Thanks also to those who have donated Jewel gift cards and cash; both are used to supplement Franciscan Outreach’s food pantry.

For more information, contact Kathy Best at: 630-832-7673. Thank you.

This week Featured CD Building Your Life on Rock: Standing Firm in the Storm

Ralph Martin, an internationally known Catholic leader and teacher, discusses the challenges and the joys of being fully faithful to all the Church proclaims as true. Ralph provides practical advice on how to build our lives on rock and equip ourselves spiritually so that we can reach out to others with true charity. He shows how our fidelity to the Word of God will give us the strength to stand victorious in the difficult age in which we live.

Prayer Quilt Ministry The Prayer Quilt Ministry would like to encourage all

parishioners to let us know about those who are going through a significant difficulty and who may benefit from the prayers of our congregation and the tangible evidence of those prayers in the form of the prayer quilts. The recip-ients of the prayer quilts may be going through a health issue, facing surgery, be in the military (or just returned from military duty), dealing with grief, emotional con-cerns, etc. They do not have to be members of Visitation Parish or Catholic.

Anyone may offer a prayer quilt to anyone you feel might benefit and appreciate being covered by our prayers. The recipient MUST agree to accept the prayer quilt. If you would like to request a prayer quilt for someone, please complete the form below, place it in the collection basket or drop off at the Rectory Business Office and someone from the prayer quilt ministry will get in touch with you to obtain additional information.
