Bhutan Six Senses Bhutan Opening in the latter half of 2017, Six Senses Bhutan is five distinct experiences in the Happiest Place on Earth. This handful of intimate, themed lodges effortlessly interweaves the heritage and hospitality of the Kindgom in Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, Bumthang and Paro. In Thimphu, the capital, the design emphasis is culture, a juxtaposition of traditional and modern. Punakhu is designed as a traditional rural farmhouse with fixtures the community would once have used. In Gangtey, a unique bird-watching bridge is crafted from local stone and enclosed with timber-framed windows. Bumthang emulates a forest within a forest, with an interior natural palette reflective of the colorful woodland exterior. And finally, Palo is set on the site of old stone ruins, with comfortable gatherint sports around open fires and hewn stone walls. As with all Six Senses resorts, the Bhutan experience will be dedicated to community, sustainability, wellness and design.

Three Camel Lodge, The Gobi Nomadic Expeditions operates Three Camel Lodge, an uber-luxurious wilderness ger camp in the shadow of the Gobi-Altai Mountains in Mongolia’s rugged Gobi Desert. Guests stay in comfort in one of 35 gers (a traditional Mongolian tent), each brimming with thoughtful touches, including handpainted furniture, cozy wool carpets, camel-hair blankets and wood-burning stoves. A striking, Buddhist-style main lodge offers a host of facilities. Nearby, ancient petroglyphs inspire imagination, while the desert teems with wildlife. One may even be lucky enough to meet the passing nomads who water their livestock at a nearby well.

Nomadic Expeditions For 23 years, Nomadic Expeditions has been leading exceptional journeys to Mongolia, introducing curious travelers to this mesmerizing and mystical land. Guests stay in unparalleled comfort at the Three Camel Lodge in the heart of the Gobi Desert and travel with knowledgeable guides who intimately know the land and peoples. Days include visits to sacred temples; exploration of pristine Lake Hovsgol; exploring Ulaanbaatar, the nation’s capital and largest city; photographing 600-foot sand dunes; and trekking in the foothills of the Gobi Altai Mountains.

Vietnam The Reverie Saigon Topping Ho Chi Minh City’s newest luxury building, The Reverie Saigon’s upper-floor location makes for an elite and private escape from the hum of the city, just 4 miles from the airport. Guests choose from 12 types of beautifully outfitted accommodations – 62 suites and 224 rooms – all crafted by the finest Italian designers. Downstairs, five exemplary restaurants and bars tempt even the choosiest of gourmet palates with everything from Cantonese to Italian eats, while an outdoor pool, expansive spa and fitness center and two limited-edition Rolls-Royce Phantom Dragons offer plentiful diversion.

The Siam, Bangkok This gem of a boutique hotel, set along the River of Kings, has only been open since June 2012 and has already received overwhelmingly positive reviews for its 39 lavish suites (including individually designed rooms and private pool villas), a dedicated butler staff, an authentic Thai restaurant with a cooking school, a traditional Thai coffee room, a serene tea garden. Art Deco décor is accented by thoughtfully chosen Thai antiques, giving a sought-after sense of place to a modern hotel that is just steps from Bangkok’s historical palaces, temples and museums. Suvarnabhumi International Airport is reached in a smooth 45-minute limousine ride.

Thailand

Trisara, Phuket Sunkissed and secluded, Trisara is a 49-room haven of palm-filled paradise in northwestern Phuket. Guests become part of the seaside community, as they settle in to their private villa or residence on the resort’s terraced hillsides with direct water views. Thailand’s rich heritage exudes from every corner, whether it’s the sincere and gracious service or the treatments at Jara Spa, rooted in traditional healing practices that are thousands of years old. Come evening, guests sample the bounty of the Andaman Sea and local farms, from freshly picked greens to glossy tuna. A place to rejuvenate, a place to roam, days at Trisara might involve little more than lounging around one’s private infinity pool to setting out on a helicopter flight over World Heritage-listed Phang Nga Bay.

Cambodia Song Saa Private Island A private island experience should feel like just that – as if it’s a personal secret, a singular part of the earth to call one’s own. Song Saa, Cambodia’s first private-island resort, epitomizes that exclusive ambi-ence, with such thoughtful amenities as sunrise yoga, in-villa movie evenings, rainforest encounters and more – all included. Guests restore their spirits in 27 Over-Water, Jungle and Ocean-View villas, and dine at a world-class restaurant, just off the island’s shoreline, surrounded by the sparkling sea. Spa services are sublime, offered inside or out throughout the resort, and providing a combination of traditional Khmer techniques and Ayurvedic principles.

Playa Vik, José IgnacioSitting pretty on a sea-facing point of the dramatic Uruguayan coastline, Playa Vik is a remarkably private beach retreat. Walk the beaches, hike the rugged inland or simply relax in a luxurious bohemian ambience. The estate features 19 uniquely decorated suites, all adorned with local and international artwork, a fireplace and a private garden. Amenities include communal living and dining spaces and a library in the main house, as well as a 40-foot-long wine cellar and a romantic outdoor barbeque area next to the beach. “Experience Concierges,” who are experts in the region, are on hand to provide guests with stimulating activities and tours in the region.

Estancia Vik, José Ignacio Marlboro Country meets a laid-back St. Tropez vibe in José Ignacio, home to the sprawling, Spanish Colonial–style Estancia Vik estate. Twelve suites are set on 4,000 acres of verdant oceanfront property, all with a rain shower, exterior patio and original Uruguayan artwork chosen individually for each space. Guests are treated to a traditional ranch experience with access to South America’s finest beaches, horseback riding, wildlife exploration, golf, tennis, mountain biking and more. The dining room features fresh, local cuisine and showcases a Uruguayan parillero (barbeque) with traditional tin walls and a central open fire. Evenings bring a true highlight: the dramatic José Ignacio sunsets, purported to be among the world’s most stunning.

Uruguay Bahia Vik, José Ignacio Spanning 10 acres of peaceful beach dunes on the Mansa Beach in José Ignacio, Bahia Vik is an artistically imagined extension of the Vik Retreats collection. The chic beach vibe of nearby José Ignacio makes for a relaxed, bohemian lifestyle, where exceptional sunsets sink into the Southern Atlantic Ocean after lingering dinners of Uruguayan barbeque and fresh-from-the-sea fish, complemented by exceptional Chilean wines. Thirty-seven uniquely designed bungalows and suites encourage maximum enjoyment of nature – everything from swimming in four stunning pools, spa treatments, ranch pursuits and private wildlife tours.

Vik Chile, MillahueJust two hours south of Santiago, Chile, lies a nearly-11,000-acre paradise in the Millahue Valley. Surrounded by vineyards and overlooking a large lake, with the majestic Andes Mountains in the background, Vik Chile Millahue is both cutting-edge and exceptionally warm and welcoming, from its cantilevered slate pool to its wine-spa treatments. Each of the 22 suites of the sustainably created resort feature exclusive artwork and design – guests won’t want to miss the never-before-seen hammock-style Vessel Bathtub by Splinter Works. From Francisco Uzebeaga’s unique betrayal of Hollywood film scenes to a Portuguese Azulego tile mosaic dominating an entire wall and ceiling of one suite, the retreat is a visually stunning celebration of its enchanting location.

Micato Safaris, Destination Specialist Never has a safari been such a deliberately luxurious experience. At Micato Safaris, the staff has painstakingly chosen the very best of the region - safari lodges with private plunge pools and personal butlers, formal afternoon tea, sundowners under a starry sky - and created itineraries that sing the praises of Cape Town, the Serengeti, the Kalahari, Victoria Falls, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, Rwanda and Zanzibar. For most, a safari is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and as such, Micato aims to make it as unforgettable and momentous as possible.

Great Plains Conservation: Bostwana Camps Guests of Great Plains Conservation’s Botswana camps are not only visitors to this hallowed region, but valued partners and agents of positive change through conservation tourism. All camps are built sustainably including using recycled building materials, solar power, greywater recycling systems and even a biogas plant to generate cooking fuel at Zarafa. The Selinda Reserve, home to Zarafa, Selinda Camp, Selinda Explorers and the Selinda Adventure Trails, is 320,000 acres of pristine wilderness in Northern Botswana, at the crossroads of some of northern Botswana’s most prolific wildlife areas. It boasts staggering wildlife populations year-round and is home to some of the classic species, such as leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, Red lechwe, zebra and giraffe, as well as more uncommon species such as African wild dog, cheetah, roan and sable. Selinda Camp and its surrounding Selinda Spillway is home to a healthy leopard population. The private and intimate Zafara Camp overlooks the Zibadianja Lagoon. There’s an opportunity to explore Africa’s wildlife by canoe along the Selinda Adventure Trail or stay in the exceptional, eight-guest Selinda Explorers Camp with its neighboring elephants and buffalo. Duba Expedition Camp and the totally rebuilt Duba Plains Camp sit in a 77,00 acre private concession the heart of the Okavango Delta, a mecca for wildlife lovers and the camp originally chosen by the Great Plains Conservation founders as their home base. Each of these dramatic camps, decked out in explorer style, offers a five-star safari experience, with incredible food and wine and never-to-be-forgotten wildlife encounters.

Great Plains Conservation: Kenya Camps Stemming from a dedication to conservation tourism and a symbiotic relationship with their communities, Great Plains Conservation’s Kenya camps harken back to the authentic expedition camps of the colonial era, while ensuring creature comforts for today’s guests. The ol Donyo Lodge is presided over by Mount Kilimanjaro, set in between Tsavo East and Amboseli National Parks, an area roamed freely by some of Africa’s last “big tusker” elephant bulls and where lions are being pulled back from the brink of annihilation. Mara Expedition Camp, in the Maasai Mara, is in prime leopard territory – and the annual wildebeest migration occurs, quite literally, outside the guest tents. Guests enter Mara Plains Camp across a bridge over the Ntiakitiak River, through a thick forest, to a seemingly endless view across the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. In a concerted effort not to upstage some of the world’s richest wild ecosystems, the camps are understated and quietly sophisticated with a classic safari style that pays homage to the Swahili and Maasai cultures.

India Sher Bagh, Ranthambhore

On the edge of the wilds of India’s Ranthambhore National Park, Sher Bagh is the brainchild of a family of wildlife filmmakers, who sought to provide a luxury tented camp experience in an incredible natural setting. Although, sadly, the tiger and leopard population has dwindled, there’s still a chance of spotting one of these elusive beasts. Twelve spectacular tents are available, each with an en suite bathroom and a private verandah – the Luxury and Royal suites offer a Jacuzzi or private swimming pool.  Guests mingle in the central lodge, at the open-air bar, perfect for Bloody Marys before lunch, or the dining tent – although most of the meals, all of which are decadent and hearty, are taken al fresco.

Jawai, Rajasthan Those on the search for leopards would do well to choose Jawai for its safari camp chic and proximity to these incredible creatures. Here, in the heart of an untrammeled wilderness, guests are ensconced in timeless luxury – each of the 10 tents boasts a private deck with unobstructed views and thoughtfully chosen local stone and stainless steel adornments. Through a beneficial relationship with the local Rabari herdsmen, the camp has successfully created a low-impact eco-tourism experience, where days are spent in close contact with felines in the bush and evenings are spent mingling with like-minded guests around a boma fire – with what feels like the entire universe lighting up the skies above.

The Serai, Jaisalmer Striking an incredible chord of luxury despite 100 acres of arid Thar Desert surroundings, The Serai is far from a rustic tented camp experience. Just the opposite, in fact, it’s a thoughtfully crafted unique getaway where the 21 tented suites come with everything from sunken garden pools to private spas. Guests dine on ever-changing menus, dreamed up to take advantage of the freshest ingredients. And the Suján Spa is an oasis unto itself, masterminded by renowned Raison d’Etre and offering a menu of mind and body therapies with ingredients from the Thar and local herbs.
