Maintain optimum visibility by ensuring your wiper blades, windscreen & headlights are in good working condition.

Always signal before changing lanes or turning & avoid sudden manoeuvres. If you lose a tyre or your vehicle starts to skid, steer gently but do not slam on your brakes or accelerator.

Obey all speed limits, traffic signs & lights.

Avoid tailgating; allow sufficient space between you & the car in front. Adjust distance to suit different driving conditions.

Conduct vehicle inspections at least once a week (oil, water, brake fluid, windscreen washer, tyre pressures/thread condition, brake/hazard lights & horn).

Before you go on that local or international holiday trip this season;

1. Plan ahead. See your doctor in good time before you leave, there might be certain medical peculiarities with respect to your

destination.

2. Have medical and dental check-ups before your trip, to be aware of problems and to find out about medicines you might want to take

along.

3. Be prepared, if you’re leaving for another country, carry enough of your regular medicines in their original containers, along with extra prescriptions for them. Also bring your eyewear prescriptions and

medical information bracelet if you have one.

While you're traveling

• Eat carefully if you're going to a country or area with an increased risk of traveler's diarrhea. Steaming-hot, well-cooked food is

usually safest.

• Avoid eating foods from street vendors, un-pasteurized dairy products, and raw or semi-cooked seafood.

• Peel fruits yourself. Drink water from commercially sealed bottles or drink carbonated beverages. Avoid ice. Use bottled water even

when you brush your teeth.

• Avoid swimming and other water activities in freshwater lakes and streams this may expose you to Schistosomiasis (also called

bilharziasis).

• If you're going to an area with a higher risk of mosquito-borne disease, ask your doctor to prescribe an Insect repellent and use

insect repellant treated bed nets while you sleep.

• Avoid taking overcrowded transportation. Try not to ride in vehicles without safety belts.

• Wear a helmet if you'll be riding a motorcycle.

• Avoid driving at night or in unfamiliar areas without local help and directions.
