It’s a great pleasure for us at the Cyprus Karate Federation to invite you to
take part at the first of the year 2020 “WKF Karate 1 Youth League” which
will be held from 29th April to 3rd May 2020 in Limassol, Cyprus. Cyprus Karate Federation - CKF has gain valuable experience in organizing
international events such as the European Karate Championship in 2001 &
2016 the World Karate Championship in 2005, the Mediterranean
Karate Championship in 2007 & 2013, the Balkan Karate Championship
2011 and the last year WKF KARATE 1 Youth League Limassol 2019. Encouraged and excited by the success of the previous championships organized in Cyprus, the
Cypriot Karatekas and particularly the Cyprus Karate Federation Executive Committee works very
hard to ensure that the “2020 WKF Karate 1 Youth League” will be a truly worthy event for all
those involved. This event will be truly worthwhile for those who will participate, athletes,
coaches, referees and delegates. The Championship will be held in Limassol the 2nd largest City
of Cyprus and specifically in Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center. I want to thank the World Karate Federation for trusting the Cyprus Karate Federation to hold
such a big event in Cyprus for once more. Pleasantly I would like to thank the president of WKF
Mr. Antonio Espinos for his support and trust shown in CKF during all these years. We are looking forward in welcoming you in Limassol, Cyprus!

2 Introduction
The Karate 1 – Youth League is a newly created competition conceived to highlight the impact of Karate
in young ages.
Established under the umbrella of Karate 1 and designed to complete Karate 1-Premier League and Karate
1-Series A, the Karate 1-Youth League aims at becoming a platform for the development of youngsters
in their quest to progress in the sport.
The new competition was devised to respond to the increasing interest of young competitors to have
more options to compete at the highest level and it puts the focus on karatekas aged 12 to 17.
The number of competitors is open. All members of WKF are admitted to participate.
The WKF competition Rules in force will be applied.
3 WKF Approved Items The Karate 1 - Youth League complies with the highest level of presentation. In order to guarantee the correct delivery of the event, and to ensure the suitable quality of the tournament, exclusively the following brands are WKF Approved for use in the 2020 Karate 1 - Youth League Season.

8.3. Safe Sport Contact WKF events must be safe for all athletes and participants and entirely free from any form of non-
accidental violence, namely, harassment and abuse. Any such behaviour will not be tolerated.

9 Online Registration
All competitors, referees, coaches and media representatives must be registered online
using the online platform: https://www.sportdata.org/wkf/set.php?id=387
No onsite registration will be accepted. The registration will be validated once completed the online
payment through the payment platform. In case of any questions concerning the online registration
please directly contact the Sportdata software team via the email address [email protected]
Individuals and National Federations are responsible for the quality of the entered registration data.
Once close the online registration, any comments will have to notified to the software and to the WKF
at latest five day before the first day of competition.

The official registration session will take place on Ajax Hotel on Thursday, 30 June 9:00-17:00
If changes are required during the official registration session because of incorrect, or missing
registration data, a fee of € 20 is charged for each change.
At registration, accreditation cards will be issued with the participants main data, a photograph and
information about registered categories. The accreditation card must be worn at all times during the
event.
Only members of national federations recognized by WKF are admitted to participate, as per Youth
League Organising Rules 2020 (PL OR Point 6 Registration.)
All participants must submit an official document (passport or other valid ID card)
for the WKF identification and validation at the accreditation session.
The accreditation of any competitor must be done by the athlete or the athlete’s
coach, in person bringing the athlete passport or other valid ID at the
accreditation session.
The competitor who has not collected, either personally or through his/her coach
the accreditation during the official registration, will not be included in the draw.
The weighing will be carried out immediately after receiving the accreditation,
those athletes who will not attend the weighing will not be included in the draw.

11 Entry Fee The entry fees are € 40 per individual category entry.
11.1 Payment All payments must be processed through the online payment platform. No on-site payment
will be accepted.
12 WKF Accredited Coach
According to the Coach License Manual, the minimum level required to take part in the Karate 1
events is the “Accredited Coach” level. To obtain such certification, coaches must attend a compulsory
Coach Briefing. Therefore, and in order to give the opportunity to the WKF Coaches to get this
certification, a Coach Briefing will be held in all events of the Youth League Season 2020.

We would like to remind you that the fee to attend to the “Coach Briefing” and to obtain a new license
or to renew your expired license of WKF Accredited Coach is 300 CHF.

No other methods of payment will be accepted.
Registrations and payments onsite will not be accepted.
14 Prizes The event prizes (medals and trophies) are to be provided by the host.
In each individual category the first prize will be a gold medal.
The second prize will be a silver medal. The third prizes will be bronze medals.
15 Ranking Competitors can earn ranking points in every Karate1 event according to the official WKF
Ranking Regulations. Competitor U14 do not earn ranking points:

NOTES & CLARIFICATIONS
1. The Headquarter Hotel of the event will be Ajax Hotel.
2. All prices are in euro.
3. Accommodation is provided on a bed and breakfast basis.
4. The allocation of the rooms in the hotels will be on a priority basis, so delegations that have
preference for particular rooms, should arrange their reservations the soonest.
5. Accommodation reservations should be accompanied with the reservation form.
6. Please note that the official airports of the Republic of Cyprus are the International airports
of Larnaca and Pafos.
Transportation will be organized by taxi, minibus or bus, depending on the number of
participants on each arrival.
• Depending on the number of persons in each delegation a bus or taxi or other vehicle will
be used.
• Transportation to the hotels will be only offered from the official international airports of
the Republic of Cyprus of Larnaca and Pafos.

PAYMENTS
1. Delegations are requested to send a precise reservation, specifying the number of rooms
with names.
2. The Cyprus Karate Federation will then issue and send you an invoice. A deposit of 25%
of the amount due is obligatory in order to obtain a fully confirmed reservation and full
settlement needs to be done no later than the 1st of April 2020.
For delegations that have paid the full amount and then cancelled within 20 days prior to
the event, 25% of the reservation cost will be withheld as cancellation fee.

17.2. HQ Hotel Ajax Hotel ****
The Ajax Hotel is ideally located in the heart of the city
providing easy access to the city’s main attractions. It is near
the main shopping streets and sights of interest such as the
archaeological museum, the Old Town and the Medieval

Currency and Exchange
The currency of Cyprus is the Euro - €, which is divided into 100 cents. Notes and coins
currently in circulation are as follows:

There are coins in denominations of €2, €1, 50 cent, 20 cent, 10 cent, 5 cent, 2 cent and 1
cent.

Business Hours
Generally, shops will open between 07:00 - 21:00 on Monday - Saturday, but this can vary an
hour or two either way, depending on the type of shop. On Sunday, opening times are later,
typically around 11:00, and closing times vary from 14:00 - 22:00.
Some shops still observe a half-day closing on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, and close
on Sunday, although in most of the tourist areas of Cyprus, both shops and supermarkets stay
open till late at night and are also open on Sundays.
Electricity
In Cyprus the power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 240 V and the
standard frequency is 50 Hz.
Vehicle Driving
In Cyprus traffic drives on the left.
• Most traffic signs will be recognizable as they conform to EU standards.
• Speed limit signs are in Kilometres Per Hour (Kph)
• Information signs are in Greek and English.
• All occupants of vehicles must wear seatbelts.
• Mobile phone use while driving is prohibited. (Hands free is permitted by law but not
advisable as it impairs concentration).
• Crash helmets are required to be worn for all mopeds and motorcycles.
• Motorcycles must have daytime running lights illuminated.
• Highways have maximum speed limit of 100kph and a minimum speed limit of 65kph.
• The drink driving limit is now a lot lower than in the UK.
• Traffic laws in general are similar to those in the UK. The traffic law section has a list of main
offences.
Alcohol The legal drinking age in Cyprus is 17. Drivers should exercise due care over the amount of
alcohol consumed. The legal limit in breath is 22 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of
breath. The legal limit in blood is 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
Tobacco If you are under 17 years old you are not entitled to a duty free allowance for tobacco.

20.1 City of Limassol
Limassol or Lemesos as pronounced in Greek is the second largest city in Cyprus and the most
southern of
Europe. It is also considered as one of the most attractive cities of the island.
Its population is about 100,952 residents within the municipality borders and about 180 thousand
in the surrounding rural areas. Limassol is well known for its rich night life as well as the largest
port in the Middle East.
It is located at the most southern part of Cyprus, built amphitheatrically over the Acrotiri Bay,
between two ancient cities of Amathounda to the east and Curium to the west.
Today Limassol extends outside its municipality borders and its oldest part has been kept as a
Historical center which begins from the roads next to the Old Port and extends to the east side of
the beach.
Limassol has its own Archaeological Museum, an excellent Theatrical Museum and a Museum of
Traditional Art. Also, there is a public park which has a small zoo and a large amphitheatre. In
this Park, the celebrations for the Wine festival take place every September.
There are also other archaeological areas such as the Medieval Castle of Colossi, Curium, Iero of
Apollona Ilati, the ancient city of Amathounda as well as the historical monasteries such as the
Monastery of Agiou Georgiou Alamanou. A complex of water habitats is located at the Acrotiri Aliki
of Limassol which is protected by the British Bases as a special protection zone.
Limassol has two ports known as Palio and Neo Limani. The new port of Limassol handles the
largest number of passengers and merchandise. Through these ports, Cyprus exports grapes,
wine, carobs and imports cereal, cars, machines, medicine an iron. Today Limassol has become
the largest center of shipping management in Europe with more than 60 shipping company offices
in town. Cyprus has the tenth largest shipping group in the world. Projects for the new Marina
have been completed and it has been in operation since June 2014. The Marina can accommodate
up to one thousand ships
Limassol is also the capital of the wine production area in Cyprus which is located at the side of
the Troodos Mountain and is the main area of important wine producing companies. The wines
and cognacs which are produced in these areas, the most well-known being Comandaria are of
excellent quality and have won many prizes at international exhibitions.
