Christmas Eve (24.12)Christmas in Poland is a major annual celebration, as in most

countries of the Christian world. The observance of Christmas developed gradually over the centuries, beginning

in ancient times; combining old pagan customs with the religious ones introduced after the Christianization of

Poland by the Catholic Church.

Grandmother’s/father’s Day (21/22.01)

In Poland, grandparents' day is celebrated separately as grandmothers' day and grandfathers' day. Grandmothers' day is celebrated on January 21, while grandfathers' day is celebrated one day later on January 22. On that day grandchildren come round to grandparent's house and bring handmade cards or other small treats . This is to show the seniors that they remember, cherish and love their grandmothers and grandfathers. The celebration was first introduced in the year 1964 by a popular magazine and gained its importance in 1965.

In Poland, St. Nicholas is a saintly, dignified figure. He comes as a bishop in bright vestments, carrying a golden crozier that resembles a shepherd's crook, symbolizing, like shepherds with sheep, that the religious tend their flock of people.

Fat Thursday (27.02) = Shrove Tuesday

In the old days, meat and meat byproducts, like butter and eggs, couldn't be eaten during Lent. So ingenious cooks used up all their dairy and eggs during Fat

Week, from Shrove Thursday to Shrove Tuesday, by making crepe-like pancakes.
