Board Notes Due to the severe drought-like conditions affecting BexarCounty,andourstateasawhole,thegroundhasbeensettlinginthe community. Consequently, there have been numerous leaksdevelopinginourirrigationsystem.Ourhandymanhasbeenworkinghardtoidentifyandrepairleaksaroundtheneighborhood.Thisisahugetaskconsideringthatthereiswellover3milesofirrigationsystemhereinWildhorse.Ifyouhappentoseeirrigationleaksorwaterbubbling fromunder theground around the community,[email protected],[email protected],andSpectrumAssociationManagementat(210)494-0659duringbusinesshours.Notonlywillyousaveourpreciouswaterfrombeingwasted,butyoucansavethecommunitymoneythatcanbebetterspentelsewhere. TheboardhasauthorizedourhandymantobegintoremovedeadtreesalongWildhorseParkway.Theplanistoleavethestumpsinthegroundatthistimeandreturnlaterintheseasontoplantnewtrees.Itisjusttoohotandstressfultoplantreplacementtreesnow.Theboardhasalsoauthorizedtherepairoffencesidentifiedinourfencepolicy.Ingeneral,theyincludefencesadjacenttoWildhorseParkway and its tributaries. These fenceshave ahorizontal stripconnectingadjacentslats(“capped”),andarecontiguouswithstonepillars. Affected homeowners will be contacted by our propertymanagementcompany toget thenecessaryapproval toenter theproperty adjoining community-facing fences. Additionally, thegatesusedtoaccessthewalkingtrailwillberepairedorreplacedasnecessary. PicnictablesattheSportsParkweredamagedbyvandalsearlierthissummer.Theboardhasauthorizedreplacementofthosetables.Unfortunately,thiswasasubstantialcosttothecommunity.Thenewtablesshouldbeinplaceinthenearfuture.Pleasebevigilantaboutreportingvandalsorsuspiciousactivity.Duringbusinesshours,pleasecontactourSpectrumAssociationManagementofficeat(210)494-0659.Otherwise,pleasereportvandalismbycallingtheBexarCountySheriffnon-emergencynumber(210)335-6000.

Currently,theChairpositionfortheSafetyhasbeenvacantforoverayear,andtheSafetyCommitteehasnothadameeting.TheCommitteehasapproximatelyfourmembers.Butwithoutsomeonetoleadtheeffort,thesafetyconcernsofthecommunityarenotbeingaddressed. TheSafetyCommitteeChairisresponsiblefororganizingmeetings,answeringhomeowneremails,coordinatingwithBlueArmor,andothervarioustasks.Therehasalsobeensomediscussionaboutre-startingNeighborhoodWatch.Ifyoudon’tknowwheretobegin,that’sokay.ThereareotherChairswillingtomentoryou,allyouneedisthedesireandenergy!Youwillgetguidancethroughtherest. 2011 CyClone swim season The2011Cycloneswimseasonhascometoaclose.Thekidshavehadawonderfulseasonagainthisyear.Itgaveourchildrenahealthyoutletwhileallowingthemtobuildgreatfriendshipswiththeirneighbors. Thekidsswimasmuchastwomilesduringapractice.Thisgives them strength and endurance, along with increasingtheirknowledgeofwatersafety.Thereweresomeyoungandinexperiencedswimmerswhocouldbarelyswimthelengthofthepoolwhentheseasonstarted.Nowtheyhavegainedsomuchconfidenceandabilitythattheycandoitwithease.Weevenhadathreeyearoldjoinusthisyear,andshewasswimminglikeafishbytheendoftheseason.Swimteamisdesignedtohelpourkidslearncorrecttechniquesandhaveatonoffunintheprocess. Watchingthekidsexcelatswimmingissogratifying.Itisespeciallyrewardingtowatchourolderkids,whojoinedusforthefirsttimethisseason,developapassionforthesport.This

seasonwehadseveralchildrenwhodecidedtoswimyear-roundwithlocalteams. WewouldliketothanktheentireWildhorseCommunityforallowingourkidstohaveapositiveoutletthatgrowsfriendships,ishealthyforthem,andbringsourparentstogether.Weareverythankfulfortheopportunitytobeabletouseourfacilitiesduringthesummermonths. Ifyoumissedusthisseason,butwouldliketojoinusnextyear,pleasebeonthelookoutearlynextyearforourregistrationannouncementinthenewsletter.TheteamisopentoALLkidsinourneighborhood,eventhosewithdisabilities. Wewouldlovetohavemorekidsparticipatewithusnextyear.Theonlyrequirementisthattheymustbeabletoswimthelengthofthepoolbeforetheseasonbegins.ItisashortcommitmentofonlythemonthsofMayandJune.TheleaguemakessurethatwearedonewiththeseasonbeforeJuly4th.Wewouldlovetohaveyourfamilycomejoinus.Haveagreatrestofthesummer!

Whenthinkingaboutwhatwillbedifferentforyouandyourfamilyin2011orhowyoucaninstilltheseedofvolunteerisminyourchildren,looknofurtherthanrighthereinWildhorse.Whilecommunityparticipationincommittee-sponsoredeventsin2010grewasithasoverthepastfewyears,newmembershiptosupportthevolunteersonthosecommitteeshasnotbeenas promising. Thevery fewwhooffer theirtimeandtalentstosupportthecommunityasawholemakeitpossibleforthecommunitytoenjoy themanyeventshighlighted in lastmonth’snewsletter.MostHOAsofferlittletonothing to theirmembers, butWildhorse isnoordinaryHOAdueentirelytotheresidentswhovolunteertheirtime.

The Wildhorse Board of Directors hasauthorizedanincentiveprogramtoencourageall residents to participate in making this abetterplacetolive.Weareaskingallresidentsto set a goal of five (5) servicehours to thecommunity by volunteering to help at a

communityfunction,writingarticlesforthenewsletter,participatingincommunitycleanupdaysorstartingoneonyourstreet,ortohelp with managing community meetings,tonameafewoptions.TheHOAwillofferacommemorativegifttothefirst50residentswhoaccrue5hoursofservicetotheWildhorseHOA.Thisisanopportunityforstudentswhoneedcommunityservicehours,familieswhowant to do something positive together, orindividualswhowanttomakeadifference.
