WHO DID THE GRAYS INSPIRE?
The Story of Robert & Margaret Gray
The Grays have "Green" Thumb and
they ran a gardening business
together for many years.
They basically lived and breathed gardening their whole lives.
Mama Gray became ill. Time to retire? Papa Gray said, “Let’s sell the business”.
Not staying home doing nothing!
Papa and Mama Gray got involved!
A group of farmers were carrying out reforestation projects.
The reforestation projects were in salt affected areas of Western Australia.
Farmers needed lots of native trees for the reforestation projects.
They were having a hard time sourcing the trees.
What can Papa
Gray do?
He started his own native plant nursery!
They started getting orders!
The orders came from farmers, local councils and mining groups.
Mama Gray was concerned.
Mama Gray said, “I
thought we had retired!
Papa Gray said, “Look
at these worms! Aren’t
they fascinating?”.
The worms breeding business started.
For 10 years the Grays sold worms, worm
kits and worm tailings as fertiliser.
Then Papa Gray started getting invitations
to talk in schools and to community
groups!
It was just a backyard business!
It started with plants for the
reforestation projects.
Then the worms caught on.
Yes, there were demands for
Papa Gray’s talks.
Mama Gray had to say, “Just take it a bit easier, won’t you?”
A new highway came along…
Papa Gray at the age of 75 would have
continued working 10 hours a day and 7 days a
week. But the government had decided to
build a new highway just past their home.
So, he sold the business and bought a smaller
place closer to Mama Gray’s family.
Mama Gray was ecstatic. Papa Gray?
Mama Gray is happy with the new house. It
has her dream kitchen with French
windows and beautiful landscaped gardens.
Papa Gray is kept busy in his workshop and
pretty veggie garden. A veggie garden and
workshop? What is he up to now?
Getting greener with age.
While others are going
gray with age, Papa
Gray is getting greener!
See the beautiful natives
he has planted in his
garden.
Check out what he has
installed in his home.
What have the Grays installed?
2 rain water tanks
worm recycling area for composting waste
SOLAR POWER unit!
I am sure this green activities will continue to grow.
So, who have the Grays inspired?
Karen, their daughter has been inspired to write this
story about her parents and their gratified lifestyle, the
green way.
While I have been inspired to put the story into a slide
presentation.
I hope that you have enjoyed this story too.
May we be just as green and our children just as inspired.
