This Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities.
It was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation. It is the MBE for volunteer groups. One-to-One aims for people with leaning difficulties to have better lives, speaking out about and taking part in all aspects of community life in Enfield.
One-to-One has been running for 24 years. There are over 500 members who directly or indirectly benefit from their work. They are supported to gain skills and self-confidence, get out and about and speak up about local issues members are directly involved in making decisions and leading the organisation forward, they develop leadership skills and become empowered.
There are currently over 80 volunteers many of these are people with learning difficulties who supporting their peers to get out and about in the community. Vice-Chairman, Paul Lehrian and Chief Executive, Lesley Walls attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace as part of the recogni-tion for winning the Award.
We also held our own Garden Party at the Nice Green Cafe Forty Hall Where the Queen’s Representative Ann Cable MBE DL. Presented Lesley with the Crystal Award. We were very lucky to have good weather, lovely cakes and the Choir.

These Thing Might be a Disability Hate Crime Stones being thrown at my window Someone using borrowing my mobile and using up my credit A group stealing my shopping. My neighbour coming round on my benefit day so we can go
to the pub and buy drinks using my money Family members taking my money with out asking. My support worker buying things for herself with my
money when she takes me shopping. School children calling me names on the bus when I come home from the day
centre. What should I do if anything like this is happening to me? You must tell someone. It could be........ Your support worker One to One Police Trusted friend or family Social worker Why do we need to report it as a Hate Crime? If the court decides the crime happened to you because you have a disability the person will go to prison for longer. You may get extra support to help you cope with the hate crime. It could stop the same thing happening to others who have a disabitlity. It is important to make sure you get help to fill in a Hate Crime Report as well as an Allerter’s form.
