¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
Why choose Spanish? Spanish is a language that is spoken all over the world. There are 20 official Spanish-speaking countries. There are other countries that have extremely large Spanish-speaking populations, like Belize and the United States, but the official language is ________________.
Spanish is a romance language. This means that it evolved over many of years from spoken Latin. There are 5 romance languages; Romanian, ______________, ___________________, ________________, and ______________________. All of these were created from Latin as the Romans occupied what is now Europe. When the Romans occupied Spain, they spoke Latin. But the Moors also occupied Spain for about 700 years and they spoke Arabic, so the languages mixed to create Spanish.
Today, Spanish is still changing because of technology and global influences. Many English words are being used in Spanish-speaking countries. Also, Spanish is influencing other languages. Are there Spanish words that you already understand? List a couple here:
