The Story of Wine at Noto’s Old World Italian Dining
W ine is simply my passion! The first spark of interest in wine
came at an early age for me. I remember
grandpa’s homemade wine tapped from the barrel of his special
“cellar” selection, placed on the table for Sunday dinner. The
hobby of wine making in my family ended with my father who proudly
made his last batch of wine with grandpa in 1956. Although my
father and grandpa wouldn’t rank amongst the top wine makers past
or present, they had a passion about wine that was passed down to
me.
I have had the opportunity to travel to Italy many times to gain
more wine and cultural knowledge for me to share with others. I
have spent time with winemakers all over Italy. I always say wine
tastes best when your are drinking it in Italy....the next best
thing is to drink it with friends at Noto’s!
I have toured these prominent vineyards and wineries and I am happy
to represent them on our wine list: Ratti, Sandrone, Pio Cesare,
Vietti, G.D. Vajra, Cantina del Pino, Marcarini, San Silvestro,
Rocca della Macìe, Col d’Orcia, Bertani, Cavit, Falesco, Castello
di Bossi, Cecchi, Banfi, Feudo Maccari, and Planeta. I will keep
you posted on my next visit.
My Italian heritage will always shine through in our restaurant and
this wine list. Perhaps the only down fall is that I don’t drink as
many wines from around the rest of the world.
Our family purchased the old Bil-Mar restaurant in Grand Haven on
Lake Michigan. It is called Noto’s at the Bil-Mar. It is a
beautiful beach restaurant open for lunch and dinner. This has
given me the opportunity to write a wine list that has
representation from around the world including a strong selection
of Italian wines. Our beach restaurant opened in 2019!! We hope you
will come visit us soon!
I love to discover more about wine. I learn by working with my
suppliers who teach me about the newest wines available in
Michigan. I learn through my travels to Italy. But most of all, I
learn when I talk with our guests who share their experiences in
wine and travel.
I am most proud of our wine list at Noto’s because we have
collected some of the highest rated Italian wines produced, coupled
with very small boutique wineries that make some of the most
phenomenal wines I’ve ever tasted.
With over 1,200 Italian wines on our list and representation from
all 20 wine producing regions, I’m sure we will find that special
one for you.
I am the luckiest person in the world to have the opportunity to
take my interest in wine and have it evolve into a passion that I
hope to share with anyone who hears the “pop” of a cork releasing
from that special vintage wine.
Saluté, Joann Noto
This wine list is dedicated to the memory of my friend, George
Pecor, who shared his knowledge of Italian wine with me and my
family.

All Vertical Wines are Limited Availability
Our Vertical Collection of wines have been added to our wine list
to give our guests the opportunity to try rare wines for that
special occasion.
Please keep in mind that when ordering older vintage wines you are
not going to taste the typical flavor profiles. Older vintages will
not have bright colors and fresh fruit.
The older wines will be more amber in color, and separate fruit
flavor components will not be separate, rather totally integrated
with tannins that are so soft, they are barely perceptible.
It is one thing to read about history, yet another to taste
it!
