Ater an inspection this autumn
by OFSTED, the people in charge
o inspecting schools in Britain,
our school has been recognised as
outstanding. To celebrate this great
achievement, weve been working
hard to make our magazine bigger,
better and more exciting to read
than ever! We have poems, reports,
drawings, lm reviews, and best
o all, a load o new editors who
have joined our team. VP ZINE has
gotten bigger and we also have a
new associate editor, Mrs. Akhtar.
This is going to be our second
magazine ever and our best. We
hope you can join us and send
us your stories, jokes and pic-
tures to publish in VP ZINE.
Being a VP ZINE editor is outstand-
ing, and really un! First o all I
elt extremely nervous but when I
ound out it was so much un I put
on my thinking hat and became a
little cheeky. Its really, really great
and i you were a VP ZINE Editor
you might eel the same way too.

On Tuesday 1st November a Year Six
class rom VPPS were lucky enough
to visit the Black Country Living
Museum. The children arrived at
school at 8:50 AM. We were lled
with excitement! Mr. Wynne, ourwonderul, unny class teacher put
us into groups, we had a maximum
o 5-8 per group due to the act
we had quite a lot o children.
We travelled by coach and it took
40 minutes however it seemed like
25 minutes. It was really big, I was
surprised. Mr. Wynne had to go and
pay so that we could participate
in the trip. Ater a while we all got
out o the coach with our groups.
When we arrived there at the
Black Country living museum, our
tour guide called Roger came
to meet us. We lucky enough to
have a guide who actually grew
up there. First he took us to the
Victorian houses and showed
5

us the dierences between our
modern lie and the Victorian lie.
Our guide told us why the Black
Country museum was called the
Black Country museum. The man
had told us it was called the Black
Country because there was a loto black og surrounding the sky.
He then took us to a cottage who
we met an old lady. She then told
us how the mothers would clean
the clothes and how they dried
them. In the Victorian days we
did not have a washing machine,
she said, we had to use things
mainly made out o wood.
The rst cottage we went in was
quite poor thereore it was crooked
and bent. We then went in a rich
cottage which was nice and veryposh. The posh one had wallpa-
per and the poor one did not.
A lady was there who showed us
how clothes were cleaned during
the Victorian period. There was
lots o actual inormation that the
6

lady told us. She showed us the
dierent parts o a Victorian house.
During our journey, we went to a
place where our guide let us have
lunch. Mr Wynne ran to the chip
shop to get two bags o chips
or him and Mrs Clarke howeverthe children didnt get any!
Next we went to a historical
Victorian school where we ex-
perienced what lie was like as a
Victorian schoolchild. Mr. Wynne
was caught talking and conse-
quently the teacher whipped him
to show us what it was like!
A man called Tony took us into
the mine. First o all everybody
put on green hard hats and we all
had a torch to share in our smallgroup. The mine was very dark
and consequently it was very
scary. in the darkness there were
models o people, which spoke
every time we got near each one.

7

While walking we saw a model
o a Victorian miner called Bill.
We heard voice clips, recordings
rom dierent Victorians explan-
ing their jobs in the mine. The
ceiling in the mine was vely low,
however we had saety helmets
so that we would not hurt our
heads. We then turned o our
torches and experienced complete
darkness... I was fabbergasted.
At the end when we let the
mine we went to the git shop.
Mr. Wynne chose me to go rst.
When we all went in the shop we
looked around and it was very
hard to choose something to buy.
I bought sweets and a beauti-
ul bracelet or my mother.
We all had a good day at Black
Country museum, the best thing
about our trip was when we went to
the Victorian school. I recommend
this place to anyone who needs to
know anything about the Victorians.8

I absolutely LOVE this movie/
book because in it, it contains
moments o love, hate, grie and
joy. It knows how to grab emo-
tions and it is marvellous!
The plot contains heart-breaking
devotion rom William to Mister
Tom and scenes o riction between
William and his mother. You can
see how much he is determined
to prove that he is responsible
or Trudy, his baby sister, when
he takes the blame or her death
and reuses to give her to the
warden when he is rescued.
In addition to this, you can see
that he is a shy and very quiet boy,
without the movie/book telling you,
so that means that there is antastic
SNOT (Show Not Tell) in this
storyline. I I had to pick a book/
movie to watch/read over a million
times, it most certainly, without a
doubt, be Goodnight Mister Tom.

chosen to gather inormation about
how to make our school better.
The children went in to the teach-

They started by looking at the

idea o what it is like. The children
had dierent roles, the roles o

part o the school we want to make
better so then we went away and
all tried our best to think about
how to improve the school.
Then the day arrived...
We walked in to the room with
ear striking our hearts. As we sat
down the teachers looked at us
with a great big grin on their aces.
We started on our rst paragraph
which was all about healthy eat-
ing which was lead by Junayd.
As time was passing the teach-
ers said that they were going to
add our ideas to their plan. Mr.
Wynne said that it was tradition
to have a toast on such great
work thereore we lled up our
cups with juice and drank them.
It was a great experience being a
teacher and I want to do it again.

time in the playground
VP ZINE reporters ventured out
to the hut one lunchtime and

about the hut, and shared their
thoughts on how the playground
could be made even better.
What WoUld yoU liKe

There should be more seats,

the Victorian era. She was part
o a group o poets called TheRomantics who liked to write
about nature and emotions.
To get started writing your own
poem, think about something
thats very important to you. On
a piece o paper, write down the
words and eelings which pop into
your head. Jumble those words
around and add more words to
connect them into lines. Your poem
does not have to rhyme, it can be
happy or sad, serious or silly.

When the teacher told us we
were going to the sevren valley
railway, I elt excited. The Severn
valley railway experience was
rather abulous. It was very brave
o them that they were willing to
take the whole school on the trip.
When I got out o bed I was a bit
jumpy. I calmed down and got
dressed or school in my uniorm.
When I got out o the house I elt
curious to get to the Severn Valley
Railway. I skipped onto the coach
with excitement as I was led to my
seat. I was with my partner and
the rest o my class. When I got to
school, my heart started to race. I
was so anxious to get on that train.
I wanted to know what it elt like
to be on a steam train. We waited
or the coach to come as we stared
through the window. Soon we let
out and a boarded the coach.

you ever seen an animal beore?
We saw countless arms. We nally
reached our destination. We got all
our photos taken by a photogra-

The train was absolutely massive!
In the entire history o the Severy
Valley Railway, theyd never had

beore! It elt rightening or the
whole school to t on one train,
because the train might have
been too fimsy to carry 400
people or more. But luckily the
train itsel weighed over 2 tons!
We went under a tunnel- it was
so dark. I got so scared. To
pass the time, we kept playing

In the engine house there were

was ull o trains; Trains that were
in the World Wars, trains that
royal people have travelled in. They
showed us how the trains looked
during World War 1 and how they
look now. I was simply amazed...
When we had our lunch we
went into the play area and had
a look at the trains and then
got on the coach to go back

coach it started to rain and Mr.

went to school and watched a

An exhilarating movie which
I have recently watched is-
called Aliens in the Attic.
I really enjoyed this lm due to
the act it was humorous and
interesting. It was really exciting
because when the hideous aliens
attack the amily (The Pearsons),
I really wanted to know i they
would take over there house or
not. The repulsive aliens were
really diminutive and petriy-
ing. At the start I thought that
they were pleasant, nevertheless
they were really malicious! The
lm made me really sit on the
edge o my seat since I wanted to
know what would happen next.
I think this lm is suitable or all

might get terried by the re-

this lm are really amusing.
The actors have been really well
chosen and they did a really
good job. My avourite actor
was Ashley Tisdale (Bethany)
due to the act that her parts
were really entertaining.
I asked Maariya or her thoughts on
the lms characters. I like Nana
because she is very old, conse-
quently she is very unny, she
said, It was unny when she was

My avourite part o the movie
was when Toms Nan (Nana
Pearson) has a battle with Ricky
when she gets controlled by the
aliens. It is really hilarious!
I really enjoyed this lm and
would love to watch it again. I
really like this movie because it
is not dull or boring. It contains
a lot o thrilling parts. The story
is adventurous and exciting, it
has dierent characters with very
inconsistent personalities. It has
an interesting start and ending,
it can be watched over and over
again without getting inattentive.
The one thing I disliked about this
lm is that it doesnt always talk
about the gruesome aliens and
the aliens dont get involved much
other than the end, only the main
characters trying to deeat them,
but at the end it does involve the
Aliens. Additionally, the movie
26
7/28/2019 VP Zine Autumn 2011 Edition
27/40
takes too long to actually talk
about the aliens. I also thought
the lm was a bit slow, it needs
to catch up and be quick and get
to the exciting part, I understand
the tension but its too long and it
needs to be much more quicker.
Overall, I think this movie is
amusing, ascinating and amaz-
ing. I hope that more movies
come out similar to this one.

am extremely earless because in

In addition to that, I am very
reliable and polite; consequently,
I am the teachers personal

Obviously not. Furthermore, I
have been rewarded the politest
and cleverest child in the school.
An intelligent person would be
great or the job, as you would
need to be able to know the
directions to the alien planets.
Additionally, i a satellite is about

need to work out how ast it is

I can also speak one hundred di-

Unortunately, when an alien
spaceship crash landed on the
playground, the editors secret
les got jumbled up! The names
ell o the editors photographs,
and some inormation and pictures
went missing, probably taken
by the aliens on their spaceship.
Can you help match the names
to the aces? Who is missing?
