August 2021 Grand Knights Message

Grand Knight, Dan Blomberg I hope all Council #9482 Brothers are doing great, staying healthy and becoming reen-

ergized to get back into our charitable works. I feel blessed to be a part of this Great

Council. The work should be cherished for we are making the difference in the lives

around us.

Cases in point:

I had the great fortune of delivering our Operation Restoring Veterans Hope collec-

tion at St. Andrew the Apostle to ORVH headquarters. St. Andrew the Apostle is

filled with the most giving, caring and charitable parishioners and we were able to

deliver over 1200 items to those in need. I met with Ray Perez to deliver the dona-

tion and he proceeded to give me a tee-shirt and show me what a wonderful place ORVH is. It doesn’t take

long to understand that Ray is a driven individual whose mission is working with our Veterans. ORVH is

right next door to a homeless shelter and his place is frequented daily with veterans that want to hang out or

want to work on motorcycles or want to just talk. We delivered these donations and immediately you are

overwhelmed that you are making a difference, there needs to be more, and there are wonderful people out

there in the world that are making a difference.

Our State Raffle was our best raffle to date. We almost doubled our ticket sales again by our wonderful

parishioners. Our Two charities benefiting from this raffle was Grow Haiti’s Children and Feed My

Starving Children. Because we almost doubled our sales from last year, each of our charities received

an additional 10% from our State and we were able to deliver checks over $2600 to each of these chari-

ties. I had the great fortune to deliver the check to Feed My Starving Children. When I delivered the

check they were floored with our generosity. They handed out tee shirts that they normally sell and I

made the comment, “Save and sell these shirts”. The response was twofold: “When a person wears a

shirt, this is great advertising for us and it allows our kids to make more”.

I loved every minute of these deliveries as it gets you out to see the people that are making a difference in the

world. It also shows me how much the love from our Parish, parishioners and Brother Knights makes a big differ-

ence in people’s lives. Keep up this Energy!!

I was re-reading a book by Matthew Kelly and through the course of the book, he talks about creating holy mo-

ments in your daily life. If you haven’t read the book “The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity”, I would rec-

ommend. It’s an older book but does it ever apply to today’s world. In there he lists a number of items that can

be daily Holy Moments to show how simple they can be. A partial list:

• Begin each day with a prayer.

• Encourage someone, coach someone, praise someone, affirm someone.

• Be patient with the person that drives you crazy.

• Teach someone how to pray.

• Tell someone your faith story.

There are many many more that are listed and his point is they don’t need to be long or detailed but the more

you get into the rhythm of doing these Holy Moments daily, the more people around you will start to do them as

well and we multiply.

The same goes for reaching out to our fellow parishioners and explaining how life changing joining the Knights of

Columbus can be. Reach out and encourage someone to become a Knight. This can be life changing for you by

bringing someone into a great charitable organization whose mission is to love and support our parish and com-

munity. It definitely will be life changing for them and their family. And it’s free for the remainder of the year!!

August 2021 Grand Knight’s letter to council continued from Page 1

Per our new State Deputies’, note in KOCOA, “The Catholic Church is waiting to be rejuvenated. Rejuvenate the church and evangelize the

word of Jesus Christ and they are looking for the Knights to lead. WE do not care what political party you are affiliated with or what movie you

were in or what sports team you belong to. BUT, as Knights of Columbus, we publicly declare to the world that WE are faithful Catholics

WHO stand in full solidarity with our Priests, Bishops and with the Holy See. The knights of Columbus seek strength in solidarity, security

through unity or purpose, and devotion to the holy cause: They vow to be defenders of their country, their families and their faith”.

Be a point of light by choosing Holy Moments to be center to your day. Reach out to your fellow parishioners and show them what they are

missing. Let’s rejuvenate our church and the people around us.

We have a lot of events that are coming up that can be used to encourage fellow parishioners to join. Two events away from our recruitment

weekend are our Movie Night on July 24th and Blessing Bags and Dinner for Edge kids on September 12th. Two wonderful nights to show what

the Knights do and how to join.

Remember to always have perseverance in prayer, humility, and your faith!!

Vivat Jesus!!

Dan

Father Michael J. McGivney Prayer

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Mi-

chael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their

neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his

commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt

us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We

humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of

your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request).

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

COME LET US ADORE HIM

Jim Carty

Pope St. John Paul II opens his encyclical, Ecclesia De Eucharistia, by proclaiming the awesome truth that:

“The Church draws her life from the Eucharist.” Through the gift of the Eucharist, Jesus is not only spiritually present, but physically present, to give us life. At the Last Supper, he gave himself to us, he did

not leave us alone, and he remains with us to this day: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. But often we leave

him alone, waiting for us.

Our parish is now trying to remedy our neglect of Jesus is the Holy Eucharist. We are beginning with a

campaign to make people aware of the True Presence of our Lord in the Eucharist. There are polls that

show that only 31% of all U.S. Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present (Pew Research Center, survey

conducted Feb. 4-19, among U.S. adults). Even among U.S. Catholics that attend mass on a regular basis the

belief in the true presence is only 63% (Pew Survey). So how can we address this crisis of faith, this offense

against our Lord?

The best place to start to explain the true presence, to nonbelievers, is by using Jesus’ own words: “So

Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood,

you shall have no life in you …. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.’” (Jn. 6:53, 55).

Jesus went on to proclaim and reinforce these truths at the Last Supper (see Mt. 26:26-29; Mk. 14:22-25;

Lk 22:17-19). We must explain to nonbelievers that in this way, and by his own words, he remains with us

in his physical presence in the Eucharist. Like a good shepherd, he is always near his sheep.

But what about those of us that do believe, why are we not there with him on a more regular basis? Why

do we leave him alone in the dark? I did not appreciate how much I was offending and hurting Jesus, by not

visiting him, until I read Consoling the Heart of Jesus by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC. In this book, it

describes how Jesus proclaimed his pain to St. Margaret Mary once when he appeared to her in front of

the exposed Blessed Sacrament (see Consoling at p.42). On page 42, Fr. Gaitley quotes St. Margaret Mary’s

poignant description of her encounter with Jesus as follows:

It was at this moment that he revealed to me the indescribable wonders of his pure love for

mankind: the extravagance to which he’d been led for those who had nothing for him but

ingratitude and indifference. “This hurts me more,” he told me, “than everything I suffered in my

passion. Even a little love from them in return – and I should regard all that I have done for them as next to nothing, and look for a way of doing still more. But no; all my eager efforts for their

welfare meet with nothing but coldness and dislike. Do me the kindness, then – you, at least – of

making up for all their ingratitude, as far as you can.”

As Jesus has requested, let us make up for the “ingratitude” of others, and ourselves. In his perfect love, he

keeps begging us to love him. He does not give up on us. The only way we can sever our relationship with

him is by our own choice. He leaves himself vulnerable to us, exposed in the Holy Eucharist, waiting for us.

This sentiment was beautifully stated by St. Julian Eymund, founder of the Congregation of the Blessed

Sacrament:

He Loves, He Hopes, He waits. If He came down on our altars on certain days only, some sinner,

on being moved to repentance, might have to look for Him, and not finding Him, might have to

wait. Our Lord prefers to wait Himself for the sinner for many years rather than keep him

waiting for one instant.

As with St. Julian Eymund and St. Margaret Mary, holy people, throughout the ages, acquired tremendous

strength and grace from their devotion to adoration. If you search for the quotes of saints regarding

adoration, you will find a multitude of great quotes to inspire you to greater devotion. The saints

understood that, like most things with God, you get more than you give. Your hours in adoration will bring

you great blessing.

Good of the Order: See page 12 for The Good of the Order

Lecturer’s Reflection: • Brother Jim Carty reflected on the great kings of Israel: Saul, David and Salomon. Each started with great promise, but pride and

arrogance led them to fall out of favor and fracture their relationships with God; each had to suffer the consequences. It is an all-

too-common story throughout history.

• Jim pointed to a cycle that the Jews fell into: God would tell them to follow His law, and if they did, He would fulfill His covenant

with them. They would then: 1. Sin – and turn against God and His request, in arrogance and impatience; 2. Servitude – they

would then fall into servitude or slavery because by sinning against God, they were no longer under his protection; 3. Supplication

– they would cry out to God to relieve them of their suffering; 4. Salvation – God would remove them from their desperate situa-

tion; and, 5. Silence – their gratitude would be short lived, and they would soon forget their relationship with God. Then, in a

never ending circle, they would return to sin.

• Is this the same cycle our society is following today? Our country is a perfect example. Our forefathers left England to practice

their faith in freedom. They supplicated to God to found the country under His protection. Then, He answered their prayers

granting them an unlikely victory and a land of abundance. Now, the country has slowly turned its back on Him and fallen out of

relationship with Him. The country is falling out of relationship with God and He is withdrawing His protection.

• It is time for us, as Knights, to step into the breach. It is time to wear our red shirts proudly, to proclaim His word loudly, and to

follow his laws closely. As we learn in the Old Testament, He is a God of great mercy, but also a God of perfect justice.

Closing prayer Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel was led by Grand Knight Dan.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00PM.

August Field Agent Update

Protecting our families from financial ruin is not just a task for the oldest among us. Whether you’re 18 or

81, all Knights should be thinking about how they can and should protect the ones they love.

But young Knights are different. Their needs are different. Their priorities are different. Their preferences

are different. Their budgets are different.

That’s why we’ve designed our new Young Adult Insurance program for Knights

and their spouses ages 18-29.

The new program maximizes flexibility, convenience, and affordability, to enable young brother Knights,

and their spouses, to get the coverage they need.

Through the program, members and their spouses can receive an annual renewable term life insurance

policy, that will help protect their families and their futures.*

We know, many of you think you’re way too young. But you’re not. There are several reasons why you

need Young Adult Insurance:

You’ve got debt.

Maybe you have student loans. Maybe you’re paying off your car. Maybe you have some credit card debt. Not all debts are forgiven when you die. Depending on the type of debt, the state you live in, and whether

or not the loan is cosigned, your family could be responsible for that money. And, if you don’t have any

debt, what about funeral costs and final expenses?

You want to protect the ones you love. You don’t want your parents and your family to be saddled with your debt if something happens to you.

So why not make sure they won’t be? It’s easy. It’s affordable. It’s what Knights do.

You’re on a budget. Young Adult Insurance is affordable. How affordable? Very affordable. The amount you pay is based on

your age and medical condition, but you could get $25,000 of coverage, for as little as $1 a week.

Your time is valuable.

Young Adult Insurance is quick and easy. It’s an annual, renewable term insurance product, that you

reevaluate and renew every year. It’s designed with Knights ages 18 through 29 in mind, to maximize af-

fordability and flexibility.

You’re a Knight. Our founder, Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney started the Knights to protect Catholic families from

financial devastation. Ever since, we’ve gone on to issue $93 billion of in force life insurance to members

and their families. Knights and their eligible family members throughout the United States and Canada

trust us with this important task. It’s what Knights do. And, as a Knight, you’ve got a dedicated agent – a fellow brother knight – to help you. Why not begin that

relationship today?

You’re Catholic. There’s an advantage to buying Catholic. You get the comfort of knowing that your money is going to an

organization that performs tremendous amounts of charity, that stands resolutely behind the Church, and

that conducts its business in an unapologetically Catholic way, with strict rules on ethics and investments.

You won’t live forever. Let’s face it, we are all going to die someday. Hopefully not soon,

of course! But what if you do? What will happen to those you

love? Would you protect them if you could? So what are you waiting for? Visit kofc.org/youngadultins today, to

request a personalized quote and more information.

Or, you can contact me to get started.
