• 18 Chinese high-speed rail projects — US$143 billion• five are under way• four predominantly land routes connecting China to Europe
through Central Asia• six broad economic corridors• 65 countries with a combined population of 4.4 billion and
about a third of the world’s economic output
Digital landscape• Technology, global connectivity and big data is fueling
an incredible rate of change for the Supply Chain and
Logistics Industry.
• The Industry is being commoditized by new-innovative
eCommerce market leaders that are enabled by
technology and connectivity.
• “eGiants” are dominating the market, setting new
customer expectations and standards on fulfilment
services, costs, transparency and delivery times.
Industry opportunities Freight Forwarders are well positioned to act as local and international trade
centres of excellence for being experts in Logistics, supply chain and cross-
border trade and compliance.
They can act as closest to customer service centres. First and last mile
experts, including regulations, security and compliance gateways.
Convergence, harmonization and unification of standards and operations is
required. Highly efficient, seamless e-technologies and low cost operation
business models will be successful.
Industry challenges Freight Forwarding industry can be viewed as largely fragmented, complex,
lack of common standards, diverse business operations and slow moving to
change.
Understanding and adapting services to meet the requirements of the
eCommerce market is a challenge.
Shrinking profit margins, cost overheads, limited standards and access to
technical resources are major obstacles for smaller players.
Independent companies will need to combine into larger Networks to take
advantage of volume based services and rates to be able to compete.
Problem: Multiplicity of the security requirements

Steve Wozniak: What do you do? You're not an engineer. You're not a designer. You can't put a hammer to a nail. I built the circuit board! The graphical interface was stolen! So how come ten times in a day I read Steve Jobs is a genius? What do you do? Steve Jobs: Musicians play their instruments. I play the orchestra.
