WHERE DO EDUCATORS GET VIDEO?
“ iPlayer and similar services offered by other TV channels are poten8ally excellent, but the 8me limits and inability to download clips/programmes limit the usefulness of such services.”
“I love Espresso but our school can't afford it!” or “The cost of videos/DVDs specifically for educa@on through companies such as Classroom Video is extremely expensive and it is not feasible for us to purchase such resources.”
I spend a long 8me looking on the internet for resources. A central educa8onal search machine which filtered out rubbish and linked content to curriculum objec8ves would be great. Smartkiddies site from australia has a liHle of this.
Blocked websites within school environment. For example, in my school Youtube is blocked and unblocked on a regular basis through requests from various teachers to IT technicians. In some lessons pupils access youtube when they shouldn't so teachers get it blocked. On the other hand teachers themselves want to use youtube as a resource. In my school there is only one level of access, so staff and students can access the same material.

NarrativeOr, using the old "city directories" in your local library (these often pre-dated phone books and
listed residents and businesses both alphabetically and by address) to virtually
recreate a map of your community in 1912, 1952, 1962

ObservationalOne could review a series of videos to
compare objects represented within it with current contexts - thes objects might be tangible such as furniture or lifeboat design - to the more
sublte as objects thta denote roles in societyunlike text which identifies a object with a
descriptive or figurative statement - moving images allow the viewer to navigate the
visual to the emphasis
Question“Knowledge of a time includes many
things. Some are very small... What does "RMS" mean? If you heard the name "Titanic" or "Carpathia" would you automatically know which steamship line owned which ship?

Critical ThinkingMany archive videos use a ‘stilted’ broadcast
commentary style - does the language and the intonation convey a specific meaning - are there
inferences has this changed?

Affective Domain
understanding history - actually understanding it - requires comprehending the motivations and fears of the people of a time.
