VDT AllianceMotivation• Connected and automated driving (CAD)
• Complex end-to-end system design and installed-performance evaluation• Digital validation & verification indispensable• Relies on co-operation between automotive OEM, wireless
supply chain, network and telecom providers, test&design HW and SW houses, R&D institutions
• Key role of virtual drive tests for automation ≥ L3• Efficient and reliable testing with OTA/XiL approaches• Co-existence and co-operation of multiple wireless and
telematics services, ADAS DSRC/ITS-G5, C-V2X, 4G/5G/6G, Radar, GNSS, SOTM, DxB
• KPI for CAD system testing• Reliable – efficient – scalable – adaptable • Extended digital control and use of virtual environment
• Open standards for virtual-drive test scenarios

VDT AllianceObjectives and implementation
Key objectives1. Identify use cases, technological gaps, and novel applications related to CAD2. Evaluate potential and limitations of available standards (5G) and interoperability
requirements with a technology-agnostic approach3. Develop reliable and efficient CAD testing and conformity assessment towards digital
approval, focusing on virtual drive testing with over-the-air and HiL approaches4. Develop, adopt, and promote open accessible standards and specifications relating to
virtual-drive tests
Steps towards implementation• Identify technology enablers and KPI for CAD system testing (automation levels ≥ L3)• Creat common understanding of requirements for reliable and transparent evaluation methods for VDT• Develop test methods and protocols for VDT as well as interoperability and certification tests suitable for
adaptation by standard setting organizations• Establish and promote VDT services and research• Co-operate with other industry consortia and standard setting organizations

VDT-AllianceTechnical Committees – Lead questions
• What to measure and to test?• At which test levels (system level, link level, or component level)?• Which scenarios and typical/extreme use cases?• With which metrics for evaluating and validating test results?
TC1 – System performance and connectivity
• How to map the use and test cases onto virtual environments?• How to emulate the test and use cases?• Which steps to take towards standardisation?
TC2 – Virtual-drive test design, emulation, and evaluation
• Which HW and SW for • modelling/designing the emulation facilities?• emulating the use and test cases?• analysing and comparing the results?
TC3 – Dedicated HW and SW development and testing
• Test and use cases and test procedures• Channels models and channel emulation• Emulation facilities, hardware and software
