1. GENERAL NOTES
One hundred forty two beneficiaries (adults and children) attended the Center during the
period of April to June.
The details are presented in the table below:

The changes that took place were:
11 new children were admitted and enrolled in the relevant junior, middle and senior
age groups and the meal program.
4 out of these enrolled 11 children are families from Talish who have moved to
Vanadzor as a result of the April war.
6 children left the Orran program.
During the reporting period 110 children were enrolled in the Orran program and were
involved in the Orran meal, education, social, cultural and psychological programs.
5 children were embraced in individual sessions.

7 children attending Orran have various disabilities thus individual work was carried
out with them.
During this quarter 32 elderly were involved in the Orran project.
2. Academic assistance to children
2.1. Classes and handcraft workshops

Computer Courses are conducted for 3 different age groups. The children are taught
PAINT Graphic design, MS word, Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS6 programs; the middle
age group children are creating graphic images, thematic slides, pictures, diagrams.
Two children participated in the republican competition called “Vozni” and one of
them passed to the next round. This program is sponsored by Mentor Graphics.
12 children of Orran from the middle and senior age groups involved in the theatrical
classes, are currently getting ready for a new performance.
18 children from the senior and middle age groups, who had participated in the
environmental classes, are involved in the gardening project since May. Vardan
Ayvazyan and Vahe Ghevondyan are working with the children involved in the
gardening project. Twice a week the children go to the garden, water the trees and
clean the weads.
The Sewing workshop was supplied with colorful, numerous threads and gobelin
fabric. The material was provided with the support of FCN organization representative

Zorayr Kirakosyan and by Sister Arusyak , Head of Our Lady of Armenia Boghossian
Educational Center. The senior age group girls are involved in this workshop.
Since June, stone carving workshop is being held at Orran led by sculptor Master Bogdan
Hovhannisian. The best students of the woodcarving group are participating in this workshop.
Hayk Hovivyan/ Head of Kanaka OJSC presented 16 tufa stones for carving .
2.2 Volunteers
Volunteers help the children to do their homework assignments, as well as conduct individual
and group sessions with the children, and support in organizing various events.
The grant project submitted by US Peace Corps volunteer was approved and due to the grant
Orran obtained 10 computers, 1 color printer and 3 basic printers, a cutter, a stapler, a binder
and 2 other equipments. After receiving all the equipment and devices an inventory will be
done and the completed list will be presented to the central office.

The aim of the computer center is not only to provide children with computer skills, but
also to educate them with financial literacy. The Orran children will try to print booklets,
calendars, business cards in their small center, and will be engaged in computer graphic
design, and create computer games with the help of Vanadzor Technopark / VTC /
volunteers. For this purpose an agreement has been reached with both the head of Technopark
and the Director of Polytechnic University. The Orran children will practice their skills in the
Vanadzor publishing house, for which an agreement has been reached with the Director.
The students of UWC Dilijan international school who are volunteering every other week at
Orran are on holidays from June 1 until September.

3. Cultural Education
3.1. Events
A series of events was organized at Orran where guests were invited. The children themselves were
invited to educational and cultural events outside of Orran such as concerts, performances, local
festivals, and cultural centers.
The description of the events are presented below.
On June 20 US Ambassador Richard Mills together with his wife visited Orran He learned
of the activities of the center and conversed with the children. At the conclusion of his visit,
Ambassador. Mills planted a fir tree in the Orran garden. Mrs. Mills presented books for the
Orran library.
The Ambassador met Lilit Nalbandyan/ an Orran graduate who was selected as a participant of
US Flex project and will leave for the US for one year.

On June 20 Samvel Avetisyan, a student of the Orran journalistic group conducted a short

On June 16, an exhibition of handicrafts of around 40 talented women of the Lori region
was organized by the Vanadzor Women’s Initiative Group. The handicrafts of Orran children
were also presented at the exhibition. The exhibition was opened with an address of Bishop
Sepuh Chuljyan. Lori Governor, Deputy Mayor, various guests and media representatives
were present during the event. The exhibition was covered by the media.

On June 18 Orran once again hosted the children of the Lori communities whose activities
were covered by Lori TV. On the same day, all the children participated in a concert called
Wonder Child.

On June 15, the students of the senior age group of Orran together with the nurse and the
teachers were hosted by Vanadzor “Lori Med” Medical Center where WIRED International
Medical project http://www.wiredinternational.org/ Manager Gary Selnoun and Project
Armenia Coordinator Sepuh Baghdoyan made presenations.
On June 13, 5 children of Orran journalism class visited the workshop of Ara Ghevondyan/
noted artist of Vanadzor who is also the master of the woodcarving and arts workshops at
Orran Center. The children familiarized themselves with the artist’s masterpieces of various
time periods, got to know the artist’s style, work technique, and asked him questions. Araksya
Miskaryan from the Journalim workshop interviewed the master, talked about the painting
style of the master, his favorite books and other interesting topics.

On June 10 the students of Orran senior group participated in the exhibition titled “Against
Violence” organized in the Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition was devoted to
the war and the migration during 1946 to 1949. The children watched the thematic film titled
“My cold and sweet country.
On June 7 US Peace Corps volunteers organized “Border to Border” training regarding
healthy lifestyle.
On June 6, Orran children attended theatre to watch “Cinderella” of Charles Perro
performed by the actors of the Russian Drama Theater,
Free tickets were provided by the administration of Drama Theatre after Hovh. Abelyan.

As of June 4, Orran started to host around 60 children from 8 communities of Lori region,
who will attend Orran every Saturday and will be involved in various projects provided by
Orran. Orran’s initiative was supported by the Education Department of Lori Marzpetaran
together with the Head of the Personnel. Children from Akhtala, Mets Ayrum, Tsotskan,
Yaghdan, Amrakits, Gargar, Norashen and Sarchapet communities are involved in this
project. Transportation of the children is covered by the communities themselves.
On June 1 a colorful and joyful event was organized at Orran devoted to International Day of
Children’s protection.

In the morning Orran children participated in the joyful celebration of June 1st in Vanadzor
Museum of Fine Arts, Hovh. Abelian Theater, Hayq Square.
On May 31, the children of Orran junior group spent a nice time in Vanadzor Maugli
children’s café. The children were invited there by the Department of Women's and Children's
Rights Protection of Lori Marzpetaran.

On May 31 The Orran children presented “Soul Power” which was organized with the
support of Orran volunteers
On May 28, Orran participated in the first graduation ceremony of Dilijan UWC international
school. The school’s annual report book had a page devoted to Orran where the students had
volunteered for two years.

On May 26. an exhibition of the handicrafts of Orran children was organized in the Museum
named after Stepan Zoryan.
On May 25, a meeting of the Lori regional committee addressing issues of disabled people
took place in Orran. The Committee was headed by the Lori Governor. Member
organizations of the committee, representatives of relevant divisions of Municipality and
Regional Administration, guests and journalists were present during the meeting. During the
meeting Orran children also performed The Newcomer within the framework of the Caucusus
Network of Chidlren’s Speaking for Myself project. Singer, actor, film director Armen
Nersisyan who supported the children to stage the performance was present at the meeting and
at the performance.

On May 14, the Dilijan International School UWC hosted the Orran children. The students
volunteering at Orran organized an interesting and full day of activitie. Seventeen children
from the junior, middle and senior age groups spent an unforgettable day with the volunteers
at the school.
Orran handed out certificates of participation and volunteering to the volunteers as well as
small gifts which were the handicrafts of the Orran children.

At the end of the meeting the volunteers of the Dilijan School prepared a nice surprise for
the Orran children. They had made a happy video which included fragments of the days
they spent at the Orran center.

On May 13 37 rose bushes were planted in the yard Gugarats Diocese garden by senior age
group of children of Orran.
On May 2 within the frame of Speaking for Myself network project the children of Orran
theatrical group were hosted by Vanadzor secondary school # 23, where they performed
Newcomer. The After the performance, there was a little discussion.
On April 22, the Orran children together with many people from Vanadzor as well as with
the Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Hovannisian, organized tree planting in Orran garden which was
devoted to the heroes of April war. During the planting as a symbol for each hero a fruit tree
and 29 rose bushes were planted.
The soldiers of Vanadzor Intelligence Battalion participated in the tree planting in Orran
garden The Orran garden is named after Anna and Hrayr Hovnanian and will serve as a
agricultural training center for the Orran children.

70 fruit trees were donated to Orran by the Head of "Kanaka" construction organization
Hayk Hovivyan, who also paid for preparation of the garden for tree planting.
After the tree planting the Orran children and soldiers had a dinner together.

On April 15 Orran hosted the children of Vanadzor School # 30 who were accompanied by
the Deputy Director, Psychologist and social worker responsible for inclusive education. The
children of Orran leadership group made a round in the Center, introduced their daily
activities, after which there was a discussion during which Orran children answered the
questions raised by the students.

On April 16, historian Arshaluys Zurabyan, former war participant conducted an open
lesson for the children.
On April 14, a group of Orran children visited the SMART Center being constructed by
Children of Armenia Fund in Debet village by the initiative of Kanaka Construction
Company and Orran. There the children organized a painting flash mob together with the
Debet school children and colored a part of the constructed wall. Orran children were also
accompanied by sculptor Bogdan Hovhannisyan and Ara Ghevondyan/ Teacher of Arts at
Orran.

On April 3 Orran children together with the volunteers of Dilijan International School UWC
participated in the jazz concert of Vanadzor Children's Chamber Choir organized in St. Grigor
Narekatsi church hall.
On April 2 a journalist Mane Papyan conducted an open lesson for Orran young journalists.
She taught the children the right way of article writing and interviewing skills. The lessons
with Mane Papyan will last a month: one meeting per week, during which the children will be
introduced to the secrets of journalism.
On April 1 National Artist, renowned actress Rosa Mkhitaryan organized an hour of fairy
tale story telling for Orran children. She read a fairy tale written by H. Tumanyan after which
she held a discussion with the children.

On April 1, Martuhi Sargsyan who is an expert in national costumes, puppet maker and a
writer, visited the Orran children together with her national costume dressed puppets.
4. Social Service
During this quarter Lusine Akmakchyan, the social worker, conducted individual work with
76 children, on topics related to education and communicat. She also conducted individual sessions
with 74 parents, and as a result most of them have been directed to various institutions.
Individual sessions were held both with the parents of the children who stopped to attend the center
and with the beneficiary families who have been newly enrolled.
During the reporting period she addressed 7 social cases, out of which 5 are in the process, and 2 had
positive outcomes. She also made 18 home visits for new beneficiaries together with the
psychologists and pedagogues.
She provided clothing to 9 families.

Vanadzor notary Mamikon Aslanyan donated art supplies such as watercolors, painting
albums, gouache, and pencils. Painting supplies were distributed to children in the junior
group, and the rest was given to the Arts class.
Krist Marukyan/ COAF Program Manager, donated 30 000 AMD to Orran on June 1, the
amount was transferred to Orran account number.
Sparapet store manager Mkhitar Mkhitaryan donated 3 cakes for Orran children; another
cake was donated by Armen Janazyan.
Vahagn Nalbandyan/ Head of Karmir Glkhark shop, donated toys.

The Manager of Armenia Development Bank Ararat Gevorgyan brought sport games for
children on behalf of the bank. He had also invited cartoon characters who made the day of
the children more joyful.
Sweets were also provided by Arman Baghramyan and Arthur Ohanyan which were provided
to children and the eldely during the following days.
Vanadzor citizens brought second hand clothing for Orran beneficiaries which will be
distributed to the needy families of rural communities.

5. Medical and Psychological Support
5.1 Medical
During this quarter Armenuhi Margaryan/ Orran Nurse, implemented the following activities:
- Preventive medical examination of the children.
- Individual explanatory work with children on personal hygiene.
- Controlled the hygienic condition of the children’s hair and provided them with medicines
against lice if needed.
- Conducted a separate meeting with parents
- Contacted Vanadzor Medical Center and followed the course of treatment of children
receiving free treatment there
- Followed the results of the examinations of the admitted beneficiaries.
- Controlled sanitary hygienic conditions of the kitchen.
- Developed the menu for the beneficiaries of Orran.
- Conducted seminars for boys and girls aged 12 to 15 on hygiene and behavior.
- Separate conversation was held with the senior group girls on sexual development.
- A discussion was held on general hygiene and dental care with the newly enrolled children,
they were provided with toothbrushes.

5.2 Psychological
During this quarter, Vardan Ayvazyan/ Psychologist conducted individual and group activities with
students in the middle and senior age groups. Individual and group sessions were organized with the
parents, guided and consulted volunteers and staff members.

Other
Every week staff meeting was organized in Orran during which ongoing issues and
activities were discussed.

Once a month a meeting with parents was organized. Various issues such as children’s
attendance, Orran events, children’s participation as well as social and other issues which
were raised by the parents were discussed.
Once a month a meeting was organized with the volunteers. At the meeting, the
participants discussed the work of the volunteers, and addressed issues they faced.
On April 22 Orran staff representatives visited Aqori village in the Lori region to express
condolences ato the family of the deceased 19-year-old Gevorg Gevorgyan who was killed
during the April war. The family had 4 undereage children living in extreme poverty. The
only adult child in the family was a 21-year-old son, who had gone for migration work and
was back for the brother’s funeral.
Orran provided a bag of flour and 50000 AMD to the family.
