PrincipleOne:Auspicious&InauspiciousDirectionsThe four directionsnorth, south, east and westare divided into subdirections. These sub

directionsareconsideredtobeeitherpositiveornegative. Vaastushowshowtoemphasizeordiminisha

subdirection'sinfluencebyindicatingwhatshouldbeplacedinthatareaofyourhomeorproperty.

Thisdiagramillustratesthepositiveandnegativedirectionsandthelocationswheretheelementshave

theirgreatest influenceonyourproperty. Thischart isusedtodeterminethepositionsofstreets,gates,

driveways,

entrances,

property

extensions,

cuts,

doors

and

windows.

The

green

area

indicates

where

to

favorably locate these features; the red areas indicate where it is

detrimentalforthemtobeplaced.

PrincipleTwo:Height&WeightThe Principle of Height and Weight shows the correct distribution of

heightandweightonapropertyorinahome. Heightandweightdecreases

the influenceofadirection. Themostheightandweightshouldbe inthe

south,west

and

especially

southwest

because

height

and

weight

suppresses

the

negative

vibrations

of

thesedirections. The leastheightandweightshouldbe inthenorth,eastandnortheastbecauseofthe

positivevibrationswhich reside there. ThePrincipleofHeightandWeightapplies to surrounding land,

property,buildingsandeveninteriorrooms. Heightandweightreferstofeaturessuchasmountains,hills,

Benefits: Very Auspicious. When located inside or outside of the

property, it brings happiness, peace and prosperity. Creates soul

Benefits: Very Auspicious. Whether inside or outside a property,

People with hills or mountains in their south will experience a lot of

happiness.

Height&WeightintheWest

Benefits: Very Auspicious. Whether located inside or outside of a

property, it inspires you to work and be industrious. Brings progress,

financial stability, willpower and social standing. The world will

recognizeyouandyourcapabilities.

Height&WeightintheNortheast

Results: VeryDangerous. Whetherinsideoroutsideofaproperty,it

is the worst placement. Avoid at all costs. It blocks the beneficial

influences of this holy direction. It will ruin your life. There will be

financialloss,relationshipproblemsandillnessesforchildren. Whatever

workyou try todo, itwill takeahundred timesmoreeffort. Without

your

notice,

enemies

will

come

into

your

life

and

want

to

stab

you

in

the

back.

Height&WeightintheNorth

Results: Very Dangerous. Whether located inside or outside of a

property,avoidatallcosts. Youwillgobroke! Therewillbenofinancial

success and all types of headaches will come, illness, relationship

problems and defamation of character. Even if someone gives you a

billiondollarcheckandthepropertyasagift,donttakeit! Youwillhave

amiserablelife.

Height&WeightintheEast

Results: VeryDangerous. Whether insideoroutsideofaproperty,

avoid at all costs. Dont stay. It will ruin your life. It causes great

irritationandstress. Youwonthaveanysuccess. Bigfinancialproblems

willcome. Even ifyoumakemoney,youwillgo intodebt. Healthwill

deteriorate. Itisaliferisk,especiallyformen.

PrincipleThree:DownwardSlopeThePrincipleofDownwardSlope reveals thecorrectplacementofslopesand lowerelevationsona

property. A downward slope amplifies the energy of the direction towards which the slope flows.

Downwardslopesshouldbetothenorth,eastandespeciallynortheast.

Thenortheast shouldalwaysbe the lowestpointonapropertyand the southwest, thehighest. No

matterwhat, thenortheast shouldneverbehigher thananyotherpartof theproperty. If the land is

completelyflat it isacceptable. Slopeappliestotheproperty, landsurroundingtheproperty,roofs,and

floorlevelswithinabuildingandaroom. Generally,theslopesthatinfluencetheVaastuofapropertythe

mostaretheslopesofthesurroundinglandandthepropertyitself. Note: Thearrowsalwayspointinthe

directionofdownwardslope.

DownwardSlopetotheNortheast

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. Apropertyor itssurrounding landwitha

slope down to the northeast is one of the most beneficial features in

Vaastu. A northeast slope brings wealth, peace, name, fame, and

successinbothmaterialandspiritualendeavors.

Benefits: Very Auspicious. This is the second most powerful

downward slope. A slope down to the north brings tremendous

prosperity,materialsuccess,peace,name,fameandtheabilitytosolve

problems.

DownwardSlopetotheEast

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. The influencesofaneastslopearethose

associatedwith thebenefitsof themorning sun. Aneast slopebrings

noblequalities,peace,clarity,wisdom,inspiration,nameandfame.

DownwardSlopetotheSouthwest

Results:Very

Dangerous.

It

is

alife

risk.

Avoid

at

cost.

Never

staysimply get out. Brings unnatural deaths, accidents, suicide,

murder,financialruin,illness,fighting,jealousy,enemies,mistrust,worry

and depression. It negatively affects character, leading to immoral

behavior.

DownwardSlopetotheSouth

Results: VeryDangerous. It isa life risk. Bringsaccidents, terrible

financialloss,confusion,depression,chronicillness,heartbreak,enemies

andaddictions.

DownwardSlopetotheWest

Results: Very Dangerous. It is a life risk. Brings failure, enemies,

addictions, illness, heartbreak, relationship problems, depression,

confusionanddoubt. Youwillnotbeabletomakemoney. Crazythings

willstartinyourlife. Youwillwanttorunawaybutyoucantbecauseit

ishardtoescapethisnegativeinfluence.

PrincipleFour:OpenSpaceThe Principle of Open Space recommends that more open space should exist in the north, east or

northeastthaninthesouth,westorsouthwest. Evenifitisonlygreaterbyafewfeetorinches,itisstill

acceptable. ThePrincipleofOpenSpace isrelatedtothePrincipleofHeightandWeight. Bothofthese

principlesprotectthedivineenergyofthenortheast.

For a property, open space refers to the distance between the house (or main buildings) and the

property

boundary.

More

open

space

in

one

direction

will

increase

the

influences

of

that

direction.

Followingaretwoexamplesofopenspacecreatedbythebuildingplacementontheproperty.

Northeast,North&EastOpenSpace

Benefits: Very Auspicious. A building placed in the southwest

quadrantofapropertycreatesheightandweightinthesouthwestand

more open space in the north, east and northeast. Brings success,

prosperity,commandingability,happinessandgoodfortune.

South,West&SouthwestOpenSpace

Results: Very Dangerous. A building located in the northeast

quadrantofapropertycreatesheightandweightinthenortheastand

moreopen space to the south, westand southwest. It is a life risk.

Bringsaccidents,illnesses,perpetualmoneystruggles,businessfailure,

depressionandnospiritualsuccess. Yourlifewillbemiserable.

ImportantPointsaboutWaterPlacementWaterhasaverypowerfulinfluenceonVaastubecauseitactsasahugeenergygenerator. Anywater

featureonapropertywillbringeitherstrongpositiveorstrongnegativeresultstotheinhabitants,soitis

crucialtodeterminetheVaastuofanywaterfeatures. However,accuratelyunderstandinghowwater is

affectingapropertyrequiresconsiderableexperienceandknowledgeofVaastu. Ifyourhome isnearan

oceanorhasalake,pond,river,pool,fountainorwell,werecommendyoureadVictoryThroughVaastuto

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. One of the most beneficial features inVaastu. Brings the greatest divine blessings and success to every

aspectof life. Createsmaterialandspiritualprosperity,success,name

andfame,health,happiness,harmoniousrelationships,peaceandgood

fortune.

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. Havingwaterinthenorthisanothertopfeature in Vaastu. Brings great material prosperity, success, peace,

willpower,happinessandgoodfortune.

WaterintheEast

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. Water intheeast increasestheeffectsof themorning sunand ishighlybeneficial. Bringsbrilliant thoughts,

nameandfame,knowledge,wisdomandpeace. Improvessocialstatus

andincreasesnoblequalities.

Waterin

the

Southwest

Results: VeryDangerous. OneoftheworstfeaturesinVaastu. Itisa life risk. Creates fear and disaster. You cannot survive on such a

property. Brings unnatural death by accidents or chronic and fatal

disease; also divorce, immoral behavior, deformation of character,

fighting,enemiesand financial ruin. Youcannot livepeacefullyhere.

You will want to leave but you will not find it easy to do so. It is

responsibleforeverykindofdestructiveoccurrence,exceptfire.

WaterintheSouth

Results: VeryDangerous. It isa liferisk. Bringsaccidentaldeaths,

illnesses, financial loss,mental stressanddepression. Affectswomen

moststrongly.

WaterintheWest

Results: VeryDangerous. It isa life risk tomen. Bringsunnaturaldeath through chronic diseases, financial ruin, and deformation of

character,undesirablerelationships,unbalancedmentalityandstrange,

immoralbehavior.

ImportantPointsaboutWaterFlowThedirectionof flowingwaterhasan incredibly strong impacton theVaastuofaproperty. Rivers,

streams and creeks must flow to the north, east or northeast when they are on or near a property.

DeterminingtheVaastuofflowingwaterrequiresgreatskillas it isaverypowerfulfeatureeithervery

positiveorverynegative.

WaterFlowtotheNortheast

Results: VeryAuspicious. Oneofthemostbeneficialfeaturesinallof

Vaastu. Brings tremendous prosperity, material and spiritual success,

name,fame,happinessandallanglesofgreatfortune.

WaterFlowtotheNorth

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. This riverhasbothauspiciousplacement

and direction of flow. Brings tremendous prosperity, success, name,

WaterFlowtotheEast

Benefits: VeryAuspicious. This riverhasbothauspiciousplacement

anddirection

flow.

Brings

brilliant

WaterFlowtotheSouth

Results: Dangerous. Although the river is located in a positive

direction, it flows south and, therefore, is unacceptable. Water in the

eastwillbring somebenefitsbut the south flowwillcausedepression,

anxiety,illness,

financial

problems

and

accidents.

WaterFlowtotheWest

Results: VeryDangerous. Theriverhasbothnegativeplacementand

flow. Causes unnatural deaths from accidents, chronic illnesses and

suicides. Enemies, financial loss, depression, defamation and

relationshipproblemswilloccur.

ImportantPointsaboutFirePlacementThefireelementhasthecapacitytotransformsuchaswhenyouusefiretocookfoodortoheatand

lightyourhome. But,greatcaremustbetakenwiththeplacementofthefireelementwithinyourhome.

Firetransforms,butisalsocanturneverythingtoash.Anunbalancedfireelementcreatesdisturbancein

relationships, health problems and unnatural fear. Stoves, fireplaces and to a lesser degree boilers,

furnaces,waterheatersandelectricalfuseboxesallconstitutefireelementfeaturesinahome.

FireintheSoutheastorNorthwest

Thesoutheast is thehomeof the fireelementand thenorthwest is

the home of the air element. Because of the interconnectedness of

thesetwoelements,firefeaturesshouldonlybeplacedinthesoutheast

ornorthwestofany room,buildingorproperty. This includeskitchens,

stoves,fireplaces,openflamesandoutdoorcookingfeatures.

FireintheNortheastorSouthwest

A fire feature shouldnotbe situated in the southwestornortheast

quadrant of a property, building or room. A kitchen or fireplace, for

example, inthesouthwestbringsconflictsandarguments. Akitchenor

fireplaceinthenortheastwillcausewhatevermoneyyoumaketoburn

upandgoaway. Italsobringshealthproblems,conflictsandarguments.

ImportantPointsaboutRoomPlacementActivities in your home should take place where they will be in harmony with the five elements.

Therefore, room placement is very important. Correct placement of the kitchen, bedrooms and

bathroomsiscrucial.

It is easy to determine where the activities in the house should take place. Just keep in mind the

placementofthefiveelements:waterinthenortheast,fireinthesoutheast,earthinthesouthwestand

air inthenorthwest. Thenaturalplacementforthekitchen,therefore, is inthesoutheast,thehomeof

the fire element. This placement brings physical health and harmony in the familys relationships. By

coordinatingyouractionswiththeelementsyouractivitieswillgosmoothly.

BedroomPlacement

Bedroomscanbeplacedanywhereexceptthenortheastquadrant,as

this brings chronic health problems. Whenever possible, the master

bedroom should always be in the southwestthe place of

commanding. Headsofthehouseholdshouldsleepinthesouthwestso

thatthehouseholdrunssmoothly. Ifchildrenareinthesouthwest,they

will dominate the family and be overburdened with responsibilities

inappropriate totheirage. Themasterbedroommayalsobeplaced in

Bathrooms with toilets may be placed anywhere except the northeast

quadrant. Toilets inthenortheastbringserioushealthproblems,especially

cancers.

ImportantPointsaboutSleepingPositionThe direction your head faces while sleepinghas a strong effecton your physical and mental well

being. Headplacementreferstothedirectionthetopofyourheadpointswhenlyingdown.

South

Benefits: Auspicious. Thebestpositionforsleepingiswiththetopof

yourheadpointingtothesouthandfeetpointingnorth. Bringshealth,

industriousnessandincreasedlongevity.

HeadtoNorth

Results: Dangerous. Neversleepwiththetopofyourheadpointing

tothenorthandfeetpointingtothesouth. Bringsterribledreamsand

disturbedsleep.

You

will

feel

miserable.

Irritability,

frustration

and

emotionalinstabilitywilldevelop. Itsucksyourpositivevibrationswhile

yousleep. Youwilllose50%ofyourwillpowerandyoursoulpowerwill

notincreasewhileyousleep. Yourphysicalandmentalhealthwillsuffer.

CookFacingEastorNorth

as the firstpreference. Never cook facing the southorwestyouwill
