IT Support personnel. We suggest that these notes are filed safely for future

Prerequisites Checklist
1 Make sure the minimum Medtech Evolution Build is Version 1.5.3.11
2 Make sure the minimum Medtech Services 1.5.6.70 installed

All users (including remote users) have logged out of Evolution and all
scheduled utilities, backup or maintenance tasks, and third party interfaces
that require access to the databases have been stopped.
4 All Briefcasing laptops have been disconnected from the network.
5 Make sure to backup the database before performing the upgrade
6 Make sure the scheduled backups are valid

Make sure following utilities/services are stopped(services.msc):
o Medtech Message Transfer Service
o Medtech NIR Message Transfer Service
o Medtech Shell Service
o Medtech Fax Service
o Medtech Scheduling Service
o Medtech Diagnostic Service

Locating the Installer
Medtech Evolution is available as downloads
Upgrade
Installed to 32 Bit 64 Bit Purpose

Note: Packages are compatible to both 32-Bit & 64-Bit environment.

Deployment model
The deployment model consists of 3 layers with options of recommended and optimal
deployment.
NOTE: All these machines can be either Physical or Virtual machines.

Installation framework
The installation framework consists of 3 layers that are represented as shown below,

Database Server
Upgrade Database
1. Connect to the Database Server
2. Click on Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > SQL Server Management Studio
a. Connect to Server window is displayed
b. Select Server Type as Database Engine
c. Select Server Name
d. Select Authentication as SQL Server Authentication
e. Enter Login and Password
f. Click on Connect button
g. SQL Server is connected
3. Make sure minimum Database version is 1.5.3.11
4. Execute EvolutionDB_Upgrade1.5.6.85.exe against the DB, which is available as part
of the download installer
5. Double click or right click the EvolutionDB_Upgrade1.5.6.85.exe and click ‘run as
administrator’ to launch the installation wizard.
6. Click ‘Next’ button to continue

7. Select the option ‘Existing Database’ and this option is selected by default.
8. Click on ‘Next’ button to continue.
9. Click ‘Browse’ button to select the Database Server from the list or Manually Type the
Database Server Name.
10. Select the option SQL Server authentication, by default this option is selected.
11. Type in the SQL login credentials for the corresponding SQL server
12. Click on Browse button and select the database name.
13. Click on Next Button

14. Click ‘Install’ button to install Database Server
15. Click Finish button to complete installation
16. Verify the log files in the following path ‘C:\Users\< User Profile > \AppData
\Local\Temp\Evolution ‘ to check the error messages as per the screenshot below.

Application Server (Client/Citrix/Terminal) Please make sure that you have checked all items in the checklist
1. Connect to your Client Desktop / Citrix / Terminal to upgrade the application.
2. Make sure you have Administrative privilege to access the Client Desktop / Citrix /
Terminal
3. Upon login to the server, verify minimum Evolution Build version is 1.5.3.11
4. Double click on the shortcut icon Medtech Evolution 1.5.exe
5. Medtech Evolution application the below mentioned window is displayed.
6. Enter Staff Code, Password and Press Tab key, Location is displayed in the Location
field.
7. Click on OK button, the below mentioned window is displayed.
8. Click on OK button to upgrade the Medtech Evolution application

9. Click Next, the installation process will commence
10. During the upgrade, the installer will attempt to replace the "MTNew" file in
following folder "C:\Windows\Fonts", if the above shown prompt appears, Click
Yes to replace it.

11. Click Finish to complete the installation.
Application Services Server
Medtech Services
Ensure that you have completed and checked all items in the Installation Prerequisites
Checklist.
1. Connect to your application services server to install the application.
2. Make sure you have sufficient login privilege to access the application services
server.
3. Make sure Medtech Services 1.5.6.70 installed in your machine.
4. Upon login to the server, the executable determines if the machine runs 32-bit or 64-
bit Operating System and executes Medtech Services_Update 1.5.6.85.exe (By
double clicking or Right click Run as Administrator).

5. Welcome to Install Shield Wizard for Medtech Services window is displayed.
6. Click on Update button to proceed further.
7. Click on Install Button to install the Medtech Services program. The window displays
the status with a progress bar.

8. Click Finish button to complete installation
9. Go to application installed path (“C:\Program Files \MedtechService_x86” (or)
“C:\Program Files (x86)\MedtechService_X64“) and check Medtech Services folder
is created and check the respective dll’s are placed inside the Folder.

Post Installation Checklist
1. If prompted to do so after application server installation, a reboot of the
server has been completed.
2. The upgrade has been run on all laptops that are used for Briefcasing and
has completed without errors.
3. Login to Evolution and ensure database connection is successful.
4. Check the current Evolution installed version [Help About Medtech
Evolution]. After the upgrade has been run, this should read 1.5.6.85

Make sure following utilities/services are started(services.msc):
o Medtech Message Transfer Service
o Medtech NIR Message Transfer Service
o Medtech Shell Service
o Medtech Fax Service
o Medtech Scheduling Service
o Medtech Diagnostic Service
6. Ensure that all staff can successfully log into Evolution without error.
7. Any errors encountered during the post installation process have been
recorded and provided to Medtech Support for assistance.
8
Make sure that the login user has the Administrative permission on the
computer in which you are installing the services.
Make sure SMTP is configured for Diagnostic services to have an eMail alert.
